  1. Did he fake a selfie while doing it?
  2. But then they wouldn't win the payroll efficiency awards and fans couldn't marvel at how scrappy they are.
  3. Yeah, same for me when I visited earlier today.
  4. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I think Ricketts just plans to be tallest of the midgets in an otherwise small market division. He should be swinging big market dick going forward, but I doubt he will. Hell, I'm for locking-up KB if he is willing because even if they don't I'm not convinced all that "savings' will go to actual on-the-field product. Guess I'd rather take my chances on KB being here + the hopes & prayers (ridiculous a big market teams apparently needs such) works than merely the hopes & dreams with no KB. That's my not so deep opinion.

  6. "But managers don't matter." I think of stuff like this whenever I see fans making this argument. First time it occurred to me as a fan that managerial decisions are more about avoiding harm was the arguments about firing Dusty in-season his final year. It matters.
  7. If you're gonna suck Cubs, just be like top 5 draft pool $ kind of suck at least.
  8. Theo was doing what he could to give Jed as soft of a landing as possible, "falling on his sword" a little for him was probably easy enough. Whatever, doesn't really matter. They'll find a way to be boring as horsefeathers to watch, and still be bottom 1/3 of 2022 draft pool money and prospect haters can go on saying "who cares" and prospect huggers can rend their garments in a rage.
  9. So, maybe an even lower vaccination rate among the players than the U.S. Marines? Cool.

  11. The WS win is almost everything, obviously, but I have a different memory of post-WS Cubs than most fans it seems. 2017 was mostly a slog. They limped into the NLCS, who really thought they had a shot that post-season? Maybe better fans than me. 2018 wasn't much fun either. Being in this division has been their meal ticket since '16. I despise the Dodgers, so it's almost impossible for me to argue I'd rather be them, but I say unequivocally I'd love to be fan of a team that is a top 2 or 3 favorite to be league's best like 8 out of a 10 year run. I just want a legit chance at a WS as many years as possible...not "if everything falls right and all animal sacrifices are completed according to ancient texts, maybe we'll make the post-season."
  12. "Educational process" = sensory deprivation chamber to avoid Fox News?
  13. I saw that somewhere last night, and they've even had a 3 HR game too. Good indication of what they are offensively (again).
  14. Apparently the last 2/3 of last year didn't happen. Nor does the predisposition to overvalue an all-time great. But, I'll still read your newsletter with its smrt takes.
  15. Yeah, I don't see his contact as being untradable or anything of the sort. 33 is still relatively young in the grand scheme of things, and we can eat money if we need to. We are also talking about one of the legendary closers in baseball even with his struggles on our team. If he is looking like he has regained his past dominance, teams will be lining up out the door asking for him. Granted, these trades are harder than they used to be because he actually has to be pitching well. He can't just luck into a good ERA and get that level of interest. The underlying metrics have to match up, his velocity needs to be appropriate, etc... But yeah, if he's pitching well he's extremely tradable. I never said he wouldn't be tradeable, but that certainly not the same as receiving a "solid return" for him. A currently dominating high leverage reliever is going to net a "solid return" or dare I say, an overpay.
  16. Hoyer needs to trade Kimbrel for a solid return before that happens.
  17. News Alert: rich men can be stingy fucks
  18. I relish these rare moments when I am not embarrassed to be a fan of ______ . Seriously though, good job in this instance, MLB.
  19. I admit I paid less than minimal attention, but I assume the bullpen rostering decisions had to be easy if Workman made the cut; they must've had plenty of junk to choose from at the end of the roster.
  20. Sinclair sells Marquee, thus freeing me up to pay for Cubs content again. Barring that, I'll be cruising on a pirate ship again.
  21. this might have been funny pre-podcast days, wherein he's shown a great personality, IMO.
  22. Maybe they want the flexibility of sucking in multiple ways. Joke's on you.
