  1. Watching the Cubs for the first time in a while... No Boog in the booth. Was he prevented from entering Canada also?
  2. ^^not my idea of a fun team to watch, but yeah, likely scratch out some wins and be competitive.
  3. Offensive? So the fake Harry will be uttering "Fukudome" then...
  4. Ross to this thread and all of us:
  5. That's "pioneering, risk-taking job creators" to you, bub.
  6. Norris is doing what he can to hurry along this not-a-rebuild.
  7. Harold Ramirez never would have gotten regular chances with the Cubs. So yeah, that should make everyone o.k. with that whole thing.
  8. I must be some weird outlier, and maybe I should just become an Angels fan, LOL, because I just like watching good players. Every discussion I'm in always revolves around competitive windows, and not "wasting money" in non-competitive years. There's lots of easy chair GM'ing that adores the chess match of building cost effective rosters. I'd simply love to watch Trout and Ohtani do amazing things for the favorite team of my childhood, even if the team isn't in contention. Perhaps more accurately, I'd rather that than watch this parade of mediocrity, and let's-throw-horsefeathers-against-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks stuff. In any event, I've finally been putting in a modicum of thought concerning what my fandom means to me.

  10. I always encounter fans who are under the false impression that Almora was actually good. Up until he was let go, I periodically looked at his minor league numbers in an attempt to understand from where the optimism/expectation about him came. I still can't figure it out.
  11. Not sure why the complaining. They spent money this past off season.
  12. Heyward finding new ways to hit into doubleplays.
  13. It isn't too late. I don't care if the Cubs trade Happ, but they should re-sign Contreras and let him be the bridge to the future. Yadi is 39 years old, and now especially with the DH, there's no reason Willy can't be productive for another 4-5+ years. PTR farts in your general direction.
  14. Well damn, if that's the case, Jed better not screw up chemistry by buying at the deadline.
  15. Is that what they're calling this year's week's version of the baseball?
  16. I'm intrigued by the idea that quite a few smart fans sincerely think the Cubs can be legit contenders in 2023. What's gonna happen this season to make Ricketts spend more (didn't they have plenty of room under the CBT this past offseason too)? What can the Cubs even buy to make them legit contenders? Specifically, what pitching? I had been assuming that Ricketts wouldn't open his wallet in a meaningful way until/unless a new young core appears. Maybe I'm way off on that...hopefully I am, because any such core is years away. I guess operating on a wing and a prayer is just the correct business model for a franchise with a top 3'ish fanbase size.
  17. Seeing Braves fans tomahawk chopping for him is super fun.
  18. I'm confident that the Cubs are better than the Reds.
  19. I have discovered the source of the Drew Smyly money... [tweet] [/tweet]
  20. Uhhhhhhhh... These horsefeathering "I'm a very logical debate person" chuds always, ALWAYS fall back on the "I'M JUST JOKING!!!" horsefeathers like the cowards they are. But we must take them seriously in the moment because they are speaking truths! I still side-eye every fan I've encountered over the previous several years who wanted the Cubs to go after Bauer specifically because he "tells it like it is!"
  21. Sneaking into the playoffs and blaming poor postseason luck is the model. Having good players is boring, or so I'm told.
  22. "But ownership is spending! Look at all the signings the past week! Someone new every day! Quit complaining!" -- Cubs fans of a certain ilk in a group chat I'm in
