The problem is the whole NL Central is a dumpster fire, regardless of this move. It’s a race to 85 wins +/-. The 2005 Padres won the west at 82-80, and that appears to be the lowest wins for a division winner ever in a 162 game season after a quick google search, the NL central may challenge that this year. Ownership nut huggers will be pitching tents when the Cubs win the division going 80-82. “Look how economically they created a division winner!”

Make Preller severely overpay. Take on Myers;' contract to max the return because no way Ricketts would use Darvish savings on anything cool/fun anyway. Also, horsefeathers Ricketts.

I definitely can see it. Keuchel, Grandal and Abreu are all a year older, still a ton of young and unproven/unknown pitching (which can go a lot of ways but has kinda busted so far). Then a guy like Anderson probably regresses since it’s hard to run BABIPS at the levels he has in 19 and 20 repeatedly (high .300 BABIPS are tough with his swing and miss profile and good but not like Ichiro/Juan Pierre speed, even like a .320 BABIP and his numbers aren’t special). So will be interesting how much LaRussa gets blamed for that vs it being just some natural correction. Hopefully all of it horsefeathers him
