  1. Sure, I call him every day w/ the greeting "hey, - - - - head, for the love of all that is good, quit making the All Star game 'count this time' "
  2. I know I'm making a huge assumption here, since we're on an internet message board and I have no real idea as to this board's demographic, but as an American of Asian descent, I always find it bemusing to watch white people discuss race issues. Sorry, I just do.. Like any white person has a soap-dropping clue what it's like to be the target of racism & bigotry. That said, I'm not so sure that phenomena like the offending T-shirts are driven by racial hate...ignorance? Yeah... Moronic stereotype? Definitely.. In the end it doesn't matter what the motivation is though, because those who partake, even if they don't have any actual malice towards the demeaned group, are helping to perpetuate the stereotype... This type of paternalistic "oh, look at guy who's different, how cute!!" " Let's patronize him by buying a t-shirt or headband. It's really just a compliment after all..." Yeah right...it's demeaning as hell... End of rant (and gee, in another thread, I swore to never discuss race on this board... demerits to me I guess)
  3. O.K. Who the hell kidnapped my Cubs & replaced them w/ a competent-looking major league ball club? I demand answers!!
  4. x2... I want to see how they look after playing some better teams... Then again, if you take the Cubs losses off the Pirates record, they don't look too bad... Hmmmm.
  5. Can't speak for anyone else, but the reason I'm worried about Hill is because I thought he'd be better this year--maybe I expected too much. Lilly, I expected him to regress this year; I didn't think/expect he'd be nearly this bad, however.
  6. How ironic....I want Pie to get the majority of AB's (even though I've expressed concern about his plate approach thus far); I haven't been happy w/ RJ getting so many AB's, but now we need RJ to rake to maybe reinforce the fact that getting Crisp would be redundant, but RJ raking further plants Pie on the bench!! Arghh; typical Cubs bizarro world. Trading Gallagher+ (hell, Gallagher alone) for Crisp would be almost monumentally stupid, which means that the Cubs will probably do it
  7. That's what I've sen too... I figure it's due to Z being more under control in that his velocity seems down (I am NOT suggesting injury, btw)... It seems most of his fastballs are running up there in the 89-90mph range. I think in the past he tended to overthrow, losing movement & control in the process.
  8. uh yeah, the pirates never in a million years had a chance at getting david wright for kris benson. Someone somewhere probably said the same thing about getting Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano. On a side note, in 2003 I was at a Daytona Cubs/St.Lucie Mets game featuring Scott Kazmir as the Mets starting pitcher and both David Wright and Geo Soto playing. I didn't recognize the awesomeness at the time, but looking back that is pretty neat. Someone that said that somewhere would have been a better gm than what the mets had going for them at that time. But, wasn't Kazmir really struggling to stay healthy and that was a big part of the reason the mets panicked and traded him? Wright was producing pretty much from day one. Scott Kazmir was just a prospect with four starts above A ball when they traded him. It didn't have much to do with health, is was more about a moron GM (Steve Philips maybe?) trading a stud prospect for a mediocre vet. David Wright had only had a handful of major league at bats at the time of the Ty Wigginton/Kris Benson swap. Wasn't it Jim Duquette?
  9. That's what I was wondering as well...is he, well, "gimicky"?
  10. My theory: Hendry & MacPhail mistakenly thought that a rule change would be made under which a team would be required to throw 9 pitchers on the field; position players were to be banished.... Like I said, it's just a theory...there might be a few small holes in it.
  11. Ugh... Murton isn't brought up, Fontenot is gonna lead-off, AND Pie sits vs. a meatballing RH pitcher... Great job Cubs
  12. Come on, Meph, it's not funny anymore. :duel: :checking finger nails: so, who is this "Dusty" you speak of? Why anyone would get excited (positively or negatively) over an opposing manager is beyond me. Dusty will be relevant only b/c idiot fans will make him so.
  13. No, the main "job" of a "leadoff hitter" is to score runs. I'd go further: the main job of ANY hitter is to score runs...
  14. Nice to get the W...the starting rotation better start giving us more innings, or the 'pen will be toast by the All Star break
  15. Not that he'll ever play w/ the big club, but if he's already 26, at least that means he isn't yet another young player the Cubs will develop improperly.
  16. Cubs find a way to win this... Let's start passing the hat so Myers' wife can re-locate to a battered wives' shelter...
  17. Yeah, so un-Cub...the winning part, that is
  18. Was wondering the same thing..what's the logic behind this move?
  19. I hope so too.. it would be nice to not fear him entering a tight game...
  20. Johns is out? Wowza. Mmmmm..... Brooke is still there. The things I would do to her if I wasn't married with a kid on the way. This is a family site.....get Parcheesi off your mind!
  21. Hill & Pie sucked. Lieber, Soto, and Fontenot have not. Fixed Really? He took a couple borderline strikes and made some great throws. He wasn't that bad. Well, to use the same logical prowess as one wrigley23, since Lou pulled Pie, it necessarily means Pie sucked...there is no argument against this
