  1. ny times write up: US Set to Defend Gold Cup
  2. gold cup tomorrow. i'm excited.
  3. a new cardinal signee? http://www.joesportsfan.com/jsfpics/columns2/cardinalsMullet1.jpg negative sideburns?
  4. i have to admit, last night, when i first heard about this, i was ... intrigued to say the least. finally some excitement with the cubs! but now, as more details surface, it kinda just makes me sick.
  5. bad news pal - to get an advanced degree in any subject, you have to know a hell of a lot (i.e., a lot more than he's shown in this thread). In fact, I knew a lot more about cloud physics, fluid dynamics and the equations of meteorology five years ago than I do now as a professional meteorologist. i completely agree with that sentiment. the smartest i've ever been was the day i defended my dissertation. it's been all downhill since then...
  6. the goat riders (via deadspin) breakdown z's 07 performance. their verdict: he's likely injured
  7. Yep. I think that was part of the circumstances leading to his demise as a Cub. You can't fault him there. It happened to me many times as well :) touche
  8. wasn't it farnsworth that took naps in the clubhouse during games a few years back?
  9. i wouldn't be surprised at all if he thought that, especially since hendry was still negotiating contracts while having a heart attack or whatever.
  10. the bbtn guys talked about this last night. steve phillips showed some differences between 2006 and 2007. it definitely seems as if z's arm slot is lower and that he's finishing more upright this year.
  11. i've only been able to watch 2 games this year, but from what i've gleaned from reading logs, he's not even living up that end of the deal. he's terrible.
  12. i think this is probably his best point about the whole mess.
  13. i think it's also worth stating that aramis is pretty much the only position player who isn't (a) competing for a starting spot (b) competing for a spot on the 25 or © coming back from an injury. he doesn't necessarily need the extra time of being "early" to get into shape or impress the new staff.
  14. i just realized that you're nsbb's annie savoy. nice!
  15. What the heck is that, and what does it have to do with Pie? It's Wolverine from an arcade game, and it's my reaction to this announcement. is he sneezing?
  16. ESPN is so [expletive]. Lets say Hester doesn't return those 2 TD's. Who's to say Grossman doesn't lead scoring drives both times? Exactly. Three of the four offensive scoring drives were for more than 75 yards, and the fourth was still 56. It's not like he put up those numbers playing a short field like he was able to do so much at the beginning of the season. i heard cowherd this morning rambling on and on about how grossman wasn't really that good (just better than the 1+ rating from last week) and that bulger really had the stellar day because, among other things, he had more TIME OF POSSESSION than rex. are you kidding me? T.O.P.?!?! of course, he failed to mention that maybe -- just maybe -- the 14 pts in 20 seconds from hester not only took away time on the field for the offense but forced the D to play back-to-back too .. or that much of the rams' offense came in garbage time against our D which is missing our best pass rusher and 3 DBs. i was getting a bit worked up by his inane drivel until i heard him claim that he liked joe buck. then i didn't care any more. was rex stellar? not at all .. but i liked his game. he checked down when he had to. he didn't throw off his back foot into triple coverage. his timing was good -- that TD to moose would have been incomplete last week b/c he would have taken too long to throw it. of course, having a competent run game had to help.
  17. Nobody is saying "we" were terrible. Grossman was terrible. I took issue with people saying Grossman was terrible in the Jets game. They acted as if they won in spite of Rex trying to lose the game. That was not the case. But this game was different. It just shows you how much more impressive the defense and special teams are that they could win by that much with such bad QB play. i think that's exactly right. and, let's be honest, the bears had a lot of turnovers. again. had the vikes been able to capitalize on any of them (especially the davis fumble), it may have been a different game. if this had been anomalous for rex, i'd have likely just chalked it up to the elements (temps, swirling winds, etc, etc). but yesterday was a day filled with awful decisions, not just overthrown balls. i suppose i hope rex is just feeling the fatigue of a long nfl season and will regain some poise as the playoffs near.
  18. well, i got back to dc late last night after going to the game. without reading all 50+ pages, let me add some thoughts. (1) it's been said, i'm sure, but it was damn cold that day. we stayed in a hotel off wacker and decided to walk to/from the stadium. when we were moving, it wasn't that bad, but sitting in the stadium for 3 hours really sapped the heat from you. i got back to bwi where it was upper 20s, and it felt tropical. (2) the crowd is absolutely relentless towards rex, with the only "cheer" for him coming when they reported his passing stats late in the game. i'm not sure what's going on in his head, but he made some awful reads, especially early in the game (that pick thrown right to the defense, missing a WIDE-OPEN moose for an early td). he definitely seemed rattled, later over throwing screen passes, etc, and i think was/is seriously pressing. i was hoping the harris td would have settled him down, but it didn't come close. (3) they ran all over us. (4) benson needs to play more. (5) urlacher is, i'd venture to say, still vastly underrated in the national media. he's a beast, and any "briggs is just as good as he is" talk is crap. but i still hope they can keep lance here.
  19. my girlfriend got me tickets to the game for my birthday (thank God for cheap flights from bwi)! just thought i'd share.
  20. Excellent observations. This one needs an addition though. After we had success in the running game in the first half, I really think we didn't go to it enough in the second half. We had some 3 and outs were we didn't even run the ball. And for at least one series, we had Benson on 1st and 2nd down, and then Jones for 3rd's...this confuses me, because I have much more confidence in Benson on 3rd down than Jones. Jones gets stopped too easily, while Benson can run people over. Benson is greatly undervalued by the coaching staff, and I just can't let this go...it's really bothersome to me. i think, again, this goes to the perception that jones is a better pass blocker
  21. a friend and i drove up from dc for yesterday's game. i actually found the jets fans, in general, to be pleasant. after the game, the two most common things i heard from them were: (1) "why isn't anyone wearing a grossman jersey? it's because rex sucks." (2) "oh yeah .. well, you lost to miami." not very convincing, to say the least. on another note, i'm flying up to chicago for the minny game in 2 weeks .. could be the division clincher, and i can't wait!
  22. He got hurt doing cartwheels in the outfield before a game. Ranks right up there with the Sammy sneeze and Jose Cardenal not being able to play because the crickets were too loud the night before and he couldn't sleep. hahahhaha WFT? I've never heard that one. http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/Morisato/2006/06/07/All_Time_Stupidest_Sports_Injuries wow .. way too many cubs on that list. speaking of former cubs: (from the same article) Designated Hitter: Glen Allen Hill (Toronto Blue Jays) – One of the most painful, Hill went on the DL after suffering cuts caused by crashing through a glass table while dreaming that he was being attacked by spiders.
  23. around april 1, 2004
