  1. THE CLAWWW!!! was thinking the claw to the face then shoving something up their collective rectums.
  2. demonstrating what big z's gonna do to the reds lineup http://www.hollywoodsuccess.com/baron_crusher.jpg
  3. this team is one self-fulfilling prophecy after another
  4. other than experience, is there any real value to getting a young player like altidore or adu capped? (that's a sincere question)
  5. i can't remember how valued he was or how he was paid, so this might not fit. but, will clark's career line: 303/384/497 ops+ 138 with a career high of: 333/431/580 ops+ 175
  6. as someone with elbow and shoulder troubles in the past, dropping sidearm was, for me, a way to alleviate the pain. seems like it relieves some of the (unnatural) stress of throwing overhand.
  7. at least we don't have to watch twellman or hejduk?
  8. You're right. People booed because they all hate Bob Uecker and think he's the devil. It had nothing to do with the fans wanting to uphold a tradition and think it's wrong for a competing team's broadcaster to sing the stretch. You mean it was wrong for Vin Scully and Jack Buck to sing it as well? i was at a (the?) game where vin sang .. pretty sure it was the year harry died, and he, in fact, said "cubbies." i thought it was very cool.
  9. wow .. i just hope we don't get completely embarrassed.
  10. and our european woes continue...
  11. can you provide a little play-by-play for those of us at work? i'm guessing the half will be ending here shortly. thanks
  12. well, with berbatov and ronaldo out for this week and likely next, i'm pretty much screwed.
  13. he just needs to hustle more
  14. Sweet. I love my FSC investment already. :D dude .. have you yet seen the show (i think it's "premier league fanzone") where "they" let the fans do the commentary? they replay a fixture from the weekend and instead of the normal play-by-players, they have 1 fan from each side call the action. and if that's not enough, other fans are encouraged to send in text messages which scroll at the bottom of the screen. i stumbled upon it last season and am glad i did so. absolutely hilarious, particularly when goals are scored or controversial calls are made.
  15. http://www.yanks-abroad.com very cool. thanks.
  16. Oooo, I like this move for Benny. Me also. It doesn't appear that Hamburg's enthusiasm for Benny has jumped like it should, so they should get rid of him. It would appear the mid to low tier premiership teams are finally realizing that Americans give you so much more ability for their $ than any other players in the world. This is going to be the trend from here on out I would think. About time people caught on. speaking of this, does anyone have a current list of american players in europe with their current teams? i found one from 2006, but clearly that's outdated.
  17. by the way, if anyone's interested, fsc soccer blogger bobby mcmahon has his premiership preview online. go here: premiership predictions on fsc this weekend: saturday -- west ham/man city (10a est), aston villa/liverpool (noon), derby/portsmouth (2:30p) sunday -- arsenal/fulham (7a), manu/reading (11a)
  18. i didn't know you could either. when you first pick your team, by default it gives you a 4-4-2. i was skimming the rules for scoring, etc. and then it said you can change formations. my 3-5-2 utilizes my strength in the midfield, and softens my weakness in defense (especially with terry out at least a month). Me neither, damn have to make changes now. yes yes yes .. definitely read the rules, esp as they pertain to scoring (don't forget your captain), formations, costs of transfers, and auto subs. wait, i guess that's basically everything. go and read all the rules, cuz when i dismantle everyone, i don't want no excuses!
  19. so naive. Sadly I think you are right. In a perfect world he would be a great backup and mentor to Soto. Worst case scenario is that Soto falls on his face and Kendall takes over. But I think we all know that if he is to be re-signed then Soto would get no real shot. the naivete comment might have actually been to the 1-year deal. you know hendry is gonna offer $15M/3.
  20. Even though I don't want him here... here's a hint to avoid a Dusty or JJ "situation"... perform up to your capabilities. You'll be beloved in no time. in all fairness to jj, it seems like he is. he's just not very good. the JJ bashing goes a bit far at times. Last year he was pretty good for us. And this year, I can't see how you wouldn't think he's underperforming. No matter what his ceiling is, he's not playing near it. Very few players actually play at their ceiling though. JJ bashing goes far because his suckitude goes far. He was okay (but his SLG heavy OPS was vastly overrated given his continued lacking in OBP). His AVG/OBP are right in line with 3 of the past 4 seasons, the only "strange" underperformance is his power. he played way above his head last season, which was arguably the 2nd best season in his career. he's definitely hitting way fewer hrs than his past numbers would suggest (though he's projected to have an above average year in doubles), but who on this team isn't? the only real reason i expect a lot out of him is that he's making way more money than his production dictates.

  22. 17 abs at this level over a period of several weeks isn't really giving him a chance to show much is it? i agree that it hasn't been a fair shot, but it might be all he gets.
  23. Not sure why a weak bloop single would prevent him from being sent down. It's hard for me to believe a team would be stupid enough to add a guy to the 40 man and then send him down 2 days later, when all they had to do was call up Pie in the first place. But it's the Cubs, so it could happen. I have to assume Patterson is up for at least the next week or so. i guess i just figured that going 1/3 or whatever would at least give him a stay of execution longer than 24 hrs. but with this bunch who the hell knows?
