  1. Look at that speed. I like it. That's called hustle.
  2. Marshall is looking good. If he was an established pitcher, he probably would have gotten a couple of those close calls in the first inning and the score would be 0-0. But he didn't and hasn't been fazed at all. I like the composure. I'm guessing that Z would have plunked Edmonds if the same sequence of events happened while he was pitching.
  3. Great player, sure, but great man, no. Thus, no immunity from good jokes. I am familiar with the reality of Kirby off the field. But Jacque is just being a good guy trying to honor the man for his achievements between the chalk. It's all good. I know Jacque has to produce on the field otherwise he will get heat here. I'm just hoping it happens. I'm pretty happy-go-lucky, don't take me too serious now! I would like to see Jacque honor Kirby by actually getting a hit.
  4. Ponson has plenty of time to screw this game up for the cardinals
  5. 0 for 06 continues for Jacque. I just want him to get one hit, no matter how cheap, just for the sake of getting a hit.
  6. Astonishing. agreed I guess Julian Tavarez posts here. Or John Rocker.
  7. I think every team in the National League has serious questions. There are a lot of ifs with every team. If two of Prior/Wood/Miller come back healthy and pitch well the Cubs could make the World Series. If the Cardinals new additions have good years they could make the World Series. If Clemens goes back to the Astros they are good enough. There isn't really a clear cut favorite. The Giants are a popular pick because of Bonds but if he gets injured, the Giants are screwed. This is the main reason why a team like the Brewers could play well and surprise a lot of people.
  8. It looked like it was his ankle but he grabbed his knee. Hopefully not too serious though but I think it could be.
  9. Thank you, all of you, for correcting me.
  10. Cabrera will be lucky to get half that. Why? He put up big stats last year, about a notch below DLee and you think he's only worth $6 mil a year? I probably estimated high on the 12-15 mil per year but if DLee is negoitiating a contract worth 12-13 mil a year, you don't think Cabrera, who is 22 not 30, isn't worth 10 mil a year? Furcal got 13 mil from the Dodgers. Service time. So if the guy can play but is only 22 (almost 23) that takes a few million off of what he's worth. Pujols has only been in the league for 5 years, this is his sixth. I don't know when Albert signed his contract and I'm not saying Cabrera is as good as Pujols is but Pujols is making 14 mil a year. Why isn't Cabrera worth 10. I still haven't heard a good reason. Just for kicks, lets say Cabrera puts up numbers this year comparable to what he did last year. Is he still not worth 10 mil? I think Pujols signed his multi-year deal before he was done with arbitration, maybe by one year. As long as a player is eligible for arbitration, other teams can't sign him so he won't have the opportunity to make big time money and poor teams like the Marlins can keep him longer. Thats' why it is the way it is. Before Curt Flood, a team owned the rights to a player forever. The whole arbitration thing is a compromise. Thanks. Just curious, what happened with Pujols then? 2006 is his sixth year in the league. Can the team a player is on just sign him to a gigantic deal if they want to?

Furcal got 13 mil from the Dodgers. Like Seth said, service time. Cabrera will only be a first year arbitration player, like Willis(who's only making 4.35M this year) was this past year. If he gets 6 million, I believe that would set the record for first year arbitration. Fair enough. Can you completely explain arbitration for me? I know a little about it but not that much. Thanks.

  14. Supposedly he doesn't clown around and play practical jokes all the time anymore.
  15. I guarantee Cabrera will be traded before the deadline. There is no way the Marlins are going to pay him 12-15 mil per year.
  16. I couldn't agree more. Not every GM is going to see all of his moves work out. But Hendry could have made WAY mistakes.
  17. I think it's been every year since 1991. Seriously though, the Reds always get off to hot starts. And then they realize they are the Reds and fade into fourth or fifth place.
  18. Don't Howry and Eyre count as good free agents? I know Jones hasn't done anything yet but Hendry should get credit for the two pitchers.
  19. I just want them to get this thing done.
  20. Shawn Estes. Any mention of his name makes me laugh.
  21. I think one of the things we have to worry about is Dusty falling in love with Eyre/Howry and wearing them out by August. I hope he doesn't.
  22. The Reds could hang around. But in the end they'll finish 15-20 games under .500 like always.
  23. I don't think the people who posed the question are the same ones who give Corey "unlimited slack". Also, some of the reason that people would prefer Corey over Jones isn't over performance, it's about age and contract. But at the same time Jacque has had a couple good seasons in the majors while Corey had half of a good season. I understand your point but at least Jacque has proven to be a decent player. He's 30, going on 31 while Corey is 26 so I see your point on that matter as well as Jones' 3 yr contract. Here's hoping Jones turns it around. Corey had a good season in '04. .266/.320./.452 with 168 strikeouts is a good season? That's a bit generous, don't you think? He was very good the first half of 2003. I do remember a couple times in 2004 where he looked like he was putting it together, but it was always a fleeting moment and he returned to the same old Corey. A .772 OPS is pretty decent for a CF. That's the other difference between the two. Patterson when he's done well has been serviceable to good for a CF. Jones is well below average for a corner OF. Patterson also wasn't good for very long. He had half of a good year in 2003 and showed some flashes in 2004. Jones had two good years, as good as Pattersons half season, in 2002 and 2003.
  24. Probably a bit. But we have to wait a couple weeks to see how the team turns out.

Corey's numbers in 04 were basically the same as Jacque's in 05.
