  1. and keep in mind that checkswing call by the home plate umpire came the day after the previous home plate ump did the exact same thing. made the call himself, without checking with the corner ump, and got it wrong. That's the worst part. On a call like that the home plate ump MUST check with the third base ump because the third base ump has a much better look at it. Same goes for a righty and the first base ump. Also something that just started to bother me. If the home plate umpire and the catcher can ask the corner ump for help on a call, why shouldn't a batter be able to ask for help as well if the call goes against him? Because in that situation, the home plate ump thought he was right, and the catcher obviously isn't going to say anything. I think the hitter should be able to ask for help on a close call like that. It's only fair.
  2. Both Matt Morris and Ray King deserved to get tossed but Jeff Francis should have been tossed also. I'm not saying that his pitch was intentional, but isn't the point of warning both teams to say "if you bean somebody, you'll get tossed?" Francis beaned Finley and should have been tossed. The way you differentiate between the beanings is you suspend Morris and King but not Francis. But he should have been tossed since the umpires had warned both teams. Intentional or not, you set a standard and you have to keep it.
  3. I'm not sure if somebody has mentioned this, but is Guzman actually going to be starting on Wednesday?
  4. How about.................................Hee Seop Choi? Absolutely not on Hee Seop Choi. That guy is a bum. That would be bad news.
  5. fixed. he is, afterall, 37 yrs old LOL, he's one of the "oldest" looking 25 year olds I've ever seen. I'm guessing that when he was 1 he looked like 13 year old. It's so much fun making Hispanic "How Old Are They Really?" jokes. They're always funny.
  6. Tough call. I like Wright better as a more consistent hitter over the long term I think. But Cabrera has added value because he can play three, if not four, positions on the field, and play all of them with at least acceptable defense. Wright seems like more of clubhouse guy, while Cabrera has quickly earned a reputation as a bit of a horse's ass. I guess if push REALLY came to shove, I'd take Wright. I can understand that, Don, but Aramis was known as a lazy bum in Pittsburgh, but that seem to change as he GOT OLDER as a player. Something tells me, Miggy will mature as he gets older. I absolutely love Wright, but Cabrera to ME, seems more like a franchise player, then Wright. To me...Cabrera has that Pujols type feel to him as a player, where as Wright has more of a Scott Rolen feel. Not saying being compare to Rolen is a bad thing, I'm saying that Cabrera, to me is more a FRANCHISE/IMPACT player then Wright, regardless of "attitudes in the clubhouse." Excellent points. There is a definate difference between All-Star players and franchise players and I think Wright and Rolen are All-Star players. Regardless of what Cabrera's attitude is, one can't argue with his production on the field. It will be interesting to see how much Cabrera's numbers suffer this year with absolutely nobody protecting him.
  7. I don't like to rely on Wood at all and refuse to do so. I would rely more on Prior but would still be skeptical. Some of Prior's injuries have been freak accidents like getting hit with the ball and running into Giles. Wood's injuries aren't freak accidents. That being said, I hope they both come back healthy and pitch well when they come back. I'm just tired of looking forward to Wood coming back only to have him get hurt again.
  8. hey I'll be IN Chicago and not be able to watch. I don't get WCIU, and of course ESPN will be blacked out. Wow, that hurts.
  9. Wouldn't they actually be 3-6 after winning their previous game. I may be misinterpreting this stat but I think I'm right.
  10. Even though we lost the St. Louis series, we still ended up 5-4 on the road trip and won the last game to start the homestand on a good note.
  11. And Dempster's scoreless streak ends at 31.1. But the save streak lives on! And the save streak is the more important one. The scoreless innings is nice, but as long as he doesn't blow a game, I don't care how many runs he gives up.
  12. That's an excellent point. Doing it once is one thing, but doing it twice is just stupid.
  13. Pitching Z tomorrow definately gives him a better chance to win than if he pitches Tuesday against Willis. I'm fine with how the matchups are going to work out. Also, is Guzman actually getting the start on Wednesday? Has there been an official announcement?
  14. I agree. I think Murton should be batting behind Barrett in the order. I'm okay with Murton at 6. I could see putting Jones 6th and Murton 7th so we have a R L R with Barrett, Jones, and Murton.
  15. hehe you got the gist of my jest :D who'da thunk maddux would be 4-0 at this point with big Z 0-1? what bizzaro world are we in anyway? As long as Prior and Wood are injured I wouldn't say we're in a bizarro world. But I do see your point. I didn't expect Maddux and Z start off the way they did.
  16. Haha. Nothing like a good juicing joke.
  17. I'm looking forward to seeing what Guzman can do at the Major League level.
  18. That is a hilarious picture.
  19. This is Texas though. Virtually anybody could pitch for that team.
  20. So true. I can tell you, I will feel alot better when I see woody back, and if he has a good game. It will give ME a morale booster. I hope he comes back healthy but it's not even a "i need to see it to believe it" sort of thing. Even if he's pitching well I'm still going to think it's too good to be true and he's just going to get hurt again.
  21. dusty would, but it would be a result of hendry resigning macias to catch  Technically, they don't need Macias. Mabry is the emergency third catcher. Where did you get that information from?
  22. Going into today's game, he was 21st of 24 in OBP(Duffy, Reyes and Pods were worse), and 20th in OPS(Duffy, Pods, Furcal, and Brady Clark were worse). Well, I guess it's good we didn't waste $10 mil a year on him. I can only imagine how much people on this board would be complaining if Furcalcoholic was doing that on the Cubs.
  23. I don't think it was a big deal at all. I do think it was stupid to do it to Maddux because, as other people said, Maddux isn't going to be rattled by it. Now if you did it to Z, he might go crazy. I guarantee that if Edmonds had done it to Z that Z would have plunked him on the next pitch.
  24. Did anyone see this coming? <-raises hand
