  1. A fire sale scares me now as much as anything. Instead of just screwing up the 2006 season, Hendry could conceivably cripple the Cubs for the next 5 years... What about this season has not been screwed up? As for crippling the Cubs, the very fact that he was extended, has ensured it! Agreed. The only thing that would make me mad now is trading our players for horrible prospects.
  2. So now we are officially worse than the Marlins. Only the Pirates to go.
  3. As I said in another thread, you're can't hit rock bottom until you are at least in last place in your division.
  4. I don't think they would take Pierre, but Jones is a definate possibility.
  5. Solid. We'll screw him up. For sure. I would be surprised if we didn't screw him up.
  6. No, he's in the rotation again. Haven't you heard? Please no. For who?
  7. LOL! Hendry figures that it's the one day the Cubs won't lose for a while.
  8. Can we just put Rusch in? The game is already over so he can't lose it for us.
  9. A little soon to make that judgment, don't you think? Furcal had offseason knee surgery and started off terribly, but his OBP is already about 30 points higher than Ronny's and 60 points higher than Pierre's. Granted, Furcal hasn't been playing to his potential but when you compare him to Pierre...NO CONTEST. Furcal 36R 45H 2HR 16RBI 25BB 29K 10SB .245AVG .333OBP Pierre 24R 44H 0HR 2RBI 8BB 18K 14SB .235AVG .270OBP Look at the contracts though. If Pierre continues to have a bad year, he's a FA at the end of the year so we can get rid of him. If Furcal had signed with us and was having a bad year, we would still be stuck with him for 4 more years. I agree that I would much rather have Furcal this year than Pierre, but nobody knows how Furcal would hold up through 2010.
  10. Couldn't agree more.
  11. Apparently this is what the season has come to.
  12. If this isn't epic I don't know what is. This is just the Titanic hitting the iceberg. Wait till the ship splits in two! We aren't even in last place in the NL Central yet. We have to wait for the Pirates to pass us before this becomes epic.
  13. Just got out of class, and much to my surprise, the Cubs are losing. I didn't see this one coming.
  14. I would have th go with #2. What made Hendry think that Neifi and Glendon would be average players this year? There was no reason for him to think that. Regardless about what you think about the obsession with speed at the top of the lineup, I don't think anybody thought Pierre would be performing this poorly this year. So based on the fact that most everybody knew Rusch and Perez were no good, that was his biggest mistake.
  15. I thought Pierre was really going to help us.
  16. Right now I'm just excited about the World Cup starting. But after the World Cup final on July 9, I don't know what I'm going to do. Basketball and hockey will have finished and football would still be a few weeks away from starting so baseball will be the only thing to do.
  17. "The Astros did it, why can't we?" Because we're the Cubs and the Astros aren't.
  18. Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. I'm always afraid of the African nations because they always seem to fly into the World Cup under the radar but always pull of upsets. People know what to expect out of the European and South American nations but you never know what you're going to get out of the African nations. Group E is most definately the Group of Death and there will be upsets. Like you said, I hope we're the team handing out the upsets.
  19. As Mark_R alluded to, if Dusty wants to blame one player, he needs to blame everybody and that includes himself.
  20. Even if we got ARod he would either get hurt or he would start to hit .250 and his power would leave him.
  21. that we don't play the Royals in interleague play, and I'm not talking about how it could help us get another win or two this year. If we played the Royals then we would be able to find out once and for all who the worst team in the league is this year. We've assured ourselves of, at best, a .500 finish against the Marlins this year and will have plenty of chances to lose to the Pirates, but we don't play the Royals this year.
  22. There's another thread dealing with Peter Gammons talking about the problems with the team.
  23. That is awesome. Somebody posted something about this in another thread and I thought it was a complete joke but obviously it wasn't.
  24. How tall? 8-[ *6 foot 4 and growing.* 6 foot 8. 215. Not growing anymore though.
