Way to get yourself out of the jam Z.

Ground ball towards 1st/2nd pitcher goes towards 1st. Once he saw that the play was contained he should have gone to third. Z should know that there is a switch on and that there are 3 infielders on the right side of the field.

Why did Ronny even throw that ball? Freel wasn't running.

BARRY BONDS I believe this was discussed in another thread already. The giants rotation that year combined for 66 wins, i think that played a roll in them winning the NL pennant Any time you have one of the best players in our generation on your team it's going to help out a lot. Not to mention having a solid hitter (Matt Williams then Jeff Kent) to go along with Bonds each year.

i'd have liked to see how many k's he could rack up, but i can't argue w/ taking him out. Wow. Nice line from Hill. Gotta love that. I wish he would have done that in Sacramento when I was watching.

The Corey Patterson trade is NOT embarrassing. This is a kid who SHOWED no remorse for sucking when he was with the Cubs. He showed no ambition to improving (part of the blame goes to the Cubs, as well as Patterson). And quite frankly....his career numbers SAY...Corey will return to the land of the Nefti Perez, before the yr is out. This is simply a "hot streak" and it won't last, especially once teams know how to pitch Corey. The Patterson trade was simply the best option at the time, and it will prove to be the BEST the Cubs could have done. And on Prior, I don't want just "getting something" for Prior. Everybody knows what Prior can do when he is healthy (SHOULD have won the Cy Young in 03, but oh well) thus the Cubs---if they decide to trade---should demand...a very good package for Prior. The Cubs DON'T have to trade Prior, and ONCE Prior gets healthy (it's a matter of time) he WILL be in the same class as Z. Was it a hotstreak in 2003 when Corey hit .298/.329/.511/.840 in 329 AB's? Corey was going through the natural progressions of a young hitter. Is it a coincidence that his numbers decreased dramatically after Dusty got to Chicago and now that he's in Baltimore, his numbers are back up to his 2003 range? I think not. 2003: .298/.329/.511/.840 2006: .291/.336/.507/.843 Those numbers look awfully similar don't they? The dude has speed, he has to learn to bunt and slap hit. I agree that he still has work to do. My point was that Patterson was affected by Dusty and the Cubs coaching staff and now that he's free of that, he's back on his way up. He's only 26 right now, 27 later this year and his better years are ahead of him. Right now, the trade is looking more and more embarrassing for the Cubs especially with Pierre's horrible performance thus far.

And I don't think that is anwhere close to a realistic request. Yeah I cannot agree with that. (agreeing with Goony?) Spending $250 Mil. just to spend it doesn't seem like a good idea. You cannot buy championships. Owners have tried and fail. Thats why they play the games. Spending money on the right players is the key. It shouldn't matter how much they cost as long as the decisions go along with the strategy of the team.

I will give that some serious thought and get back to you. The overall contributions from those 4 need to be weighed in a manner where the comparison is fair, not to mention the... oh, who am I kidding? Neifi Perez is our MVP and Glendon Rusch is our Ace. I would take them in a heartbeat.

I'm tired of comments like this. He can't force people to get on base. Home runs are home runs. You can't choose for them to be meaningful or not. And that's where OBP comes into play.

Agreed. I could care less how the Cubs win it. At this point, all I want is a World Series title. It's withing the rules of baseball to spend 200 million so if that's what it takes to win, then so be it. But if you told me that the Cubs were going to win a World Series whether they spent 50 million or 200 million, I would choose to spend 50 million. Like somebody else said, beggars can't be choosers.
