  1. Michael Barrett getting his hits in before he has to serve his suspension.
  2. Just got back from class and I'm amazed that the Cubs are actually winning. Saw Jones lose the ball in the sun. And thank goodness Dusty is taking Z out of the game.
  3. I keep trying to point out that Lee went down in game #14, but this team didn't die until game #20. Sorry. I forgot about that. You're right. Fixed. The Cubs did just what I expected them to do after Lee went down: tread water for a little while and then fall off the map.
  4. He's an idiot because he assumed a Cubs fan came from the midwest? Yes. Why do I have to be from the midwest to be a Cubs fan? That's just stupidity. You don't have to be, but what is wrong with assuming you are? Whenever somebody sees me at a Cubs game or with Cubs gear they ask me if I'm from Chicago and/or if I just came out for the game. If you had a conversation with him about not being from the midwest and he just refused to believe you and insisted you had to be in order to be a Cubs fan, then that's stupid. But just asking if you're from the midwest because you're a Cubs fan is not stupid. He assumed that I traveled out to Sacramento just for the Iowa Cubs game against Sacramento and for no other reason. I don't remember his exact words but he definately implied that. Sorry if I didn't make that part clear, I realize the quote I gave was quite vague. Asking if I'm from the midwest because I'm a Cubs fan isn't stupid, it's an honest question and I get that all the time.

  6. The team OPS is down over 0.1 and the team ERA is almost two runs per game higher since Lee went down. Wow.
  7. Fair!!?? It's bull. Rodgers got 20 for attacking 2 cameramen and it was reduced to 13 on appeal. 13 for a SP is like 2-3 starts. 10 for a catcher is like 7-8-9 games!!! I said the same thing in another thread and somebody else used a different player/pitcher example. 10 games for a position player is 1/16th of a season. 10 games for a pitcher costs him 2 starts which would be approx 2/32 = 1/16th of a season. So they both lose the same amount of playing time.
  8. I'm not sure if Pie merits a call up. His AAA numbers are decent but not spectacular. I think he still has some learning to do. While last night's 3 walks are a good sign, like I said, he only saw one strike total in those three at bats so he didn't really have to work the count so to speak. He also had a horrendous swing on his strikeout. I would still like to see him get the SO/BB ratio down. He didn't really show me anything that made me go "Wow" last night. I went to a couple Sacramento River Cats games at the beginning of last year when Dan Johnson was still at AAA and he looked awesome. I know they are two different types of players but Johnson hit a couple home runs and hit everything solid. It's hard to judge on Pie because really only had 2 at bats to do something so I think the jury is still out on whether he should get called up this year.
  9. Cuban completely turned around the Mavs organization and has made them into a perennial playoff team. Give him some time before you criticize him for not winning championships because he's only been in control of the organization for a few years.
  10. Our rival is currently the Pirates. But once we pass them for last place in the NL Central, then we will not have any rivals.
  11. Of course the Cubs will win this game, and likely two of three. Anything to get our hopes up for a moment and then... smack! down again. Or we sweep Atlanta to set up the inevitable... DUSTY BAKER EXTENTION!!
  12. Don't forget Fast Freddie Bynum. Might as well keep Theriot and call up Fontenot too. Fontenot played tonight for Iowa.
  13. Agreed. He was smeared in the press by the Tribune Co. The only way Sammy ever steps foot in Wrigley again is as an opponent.
  14. Why did that guy even bring that point up? It has no relevance whatsoever. So he just so happened to be Aaron's teammate and just so happened to be batting behind Aaron that day. You know what that's called? Luck.
  15. Jeter should get to 3000 hits fairly easily. I don't think he has a chance to catch Pete Rose. He could get to 3500 if he stays healthy and wants to play. But that's the requirement for everybody chasing an alltime record so we'll just have to wait and see.
  16. But if World Series 3.0 is coming in a few years as well does it really matter?
  17. This is awesome. I just voted and it's still at 80%.
  18. Montenez went 0-5 tonight against Sacramento.
  19. Just got back from the Iowa Cubs game tonight and here are a few thoughts: -Rich Hill was horrendous. He pitched just as bad as his stat line looked. Sacramento could have scored more in the first three innings. He wouldn't have lasted 5 2/3 but Sacramento started swinging at first and second pitches and Hill only threw 17 pitches combined in the 4th and 5th innings. -It was nice to see Pie be patient at the plate with 3 walks although like somebody said, he only saw 1 strike on those three PA. -Restovich had two hits in his first two at bats but was 0-3 in his final three including grounding out with the bases loaded in the eighth. -Casey McGehee's home run was an absolute bullet to left. -Iowa definately seemed to have a better hitting philosophy than Chicago does because the River Cats starter threw 113 pitches through 5 innings. A couple non game related thoughts -Sacramento had a trivia question of "Who was the last switch hitter to win the MVP award? One of the answers was "Mickey Mantel." They fixed it when they showed the answer. -There was an idiot fan in front of us. There was a guy with a Cubs sweatshirt on a few rows down and the fan in front of us said to him "you must like the warm weather out here." Then later in the game the guy asks my girlfriend and me (I was wearing a Wrigley Field sweatshirt) "did you really come all the way out here from the midwest?" He was completely serious. He actually thinks all Cubs fans are from the midwest. I just laughed at him.
  20. Assuming your numbers are correct a perfect socre is 167. Somebody can have (and does because I do) Morgan Ensberg and Alfonso Soriano. Somebody could also have Matt Holliday and Chris Shelton. Perfect Score: Group A: David Ortiz (14) Group B: Albert Pujols (23), A. Dunn or C. Lee (16) Group C: M. Ensberg (16), A. Soriano (16), Carlos Delgado (15) Group D: Jonny Gomes (14), Nick Swisher (13), M. Holliday (11), C. Shelton (11) Bonus: Jim Thome (18 ) TOTAL (167)
  21. Yes, it is in my sig (as you can see below). Obviously asking questions isn't getting the point across to Hendry and Dusty. We could also have a sign that says "WALKS CLOG UP THE BASES." Or how about this one: "WALKS TURN INTO RUNS ... JUST ASK THE CUB PITCHERS." HAHAHAHA.
