  1. Agreed. I could care less how the Cubs win it. At this point, all I want is a World Series title. It's withing the rules of baseball to spend 200 million so if that's what it takes to win, then so be it. But if you told me that the Cubs were going to win a World Series whether they spent 50 million or 200 million, I would choose to spend 50 million. Like somebody else said, beggars can't be choosers.
  2. He'll be our savior! Isn't that Neifi's position already?
  3. Stiff back. Thanks bcb, just saw it in the Trib. My gut tells me he will not miss his next outing. Now if it was Wood or Prior.................???? Well.......... Out for two months. If it was Wood or Prior of course.
  4. Do you have stats for just the road starts Fred? I would like to know just how bad they are.
  5. I think I might have to help out with this.
  6. The Corey Patterson trade is NOT embarrassing. This is a kid who SHOWED no remorse for sucking when he was with the Cubs. He showed no ambition to improving (part of the blame goes to the Cubs, as well as Patterson). And quite frankly....his career numbers SAY...Corey will return to the land of the Nefti Perez, before the yr is out. This is simply a "hot streak" and it won't last, especially once teams know how to pitch Corey. The Patterson trade was simply the best option at the time, and it will prove to be the BEST the Cubs could have done. And on Prior, I don't want just "getting something" for Prior. Everybody knows what Prior can do when he is healthy (SHOULD have won the Cy Young in 03, but oh well) thus the Cubs---if they decide to trade---should demand...a very good package for Prior. The Cubs DON'T have to trade Prior, and ONCE Prior gets healthy (it's a matter of time) he WILL be in the same class as Z. Was it a hotstreak in 2003 when Corey hit .298/.329/.511/.840 in 329 AB's? Corey was going through the natural progressions of a young hitter. Is it a coincidence that his numbers decreased dramatically after Dusty got to Chicago and now that he's in Baltimore, his numbers are back up to his 2003 range? I think not. 2003: .298/.329/.511/.840 2006: .291/.336/.507/.843 Those numbers look awfully similar don't they?
  7. I would still consider this to be a bold prediction.
  8. CUBS WIN!! I don't think we manage 3 in a row though. This is the Cubs. I would like 3 in a row.
  9. Any word on whether this is going to be a long delay or are they planning on starting back up soon?
  10. We should bat Maddux 8th and Blanco 9th. Murton 3rd? Interesting.
  11. The odds of them making the playoffs are less than 1 in 400 and have been dropping, not rising. I love the Cubs, and that's why I'm rooting against them right now. They will be destined for medicority (or worse) as long as the current management is in place. I really dont understand a Cub fan rooting aginst the cubs. I guess im the only one on nsbb that dosent root against them, not to say their isnt people on here who dont root against them but it seems like more and more people are rooting for this team to finish dead last. By the way I dont think Hendry is going to fire Baker during the season. In my opinion I think Dusty should get an extension. He brought the SF Giants to the 02 world series, and came 5 outs from bringing the cubs to the world series. Maybe if the players on the cubs could play to their potential we wouldnt be disscussing this. Does your boss judge you based on what you did 3 years ago, or what you did recently? I want the Cubs to win long term. If that means losing short term, then fine, lets do it and get it over with. Like pulling a band-aid. Exactly. It's the "what have you done for me lately" question. Coaches routinely get fired after a few years of mediocre/bad seasons even if they have had success in the past.
  12. That works for me. I'll update mine tonight after the games are over and check it with yours.
  13. And if the Indians actually decide to play to their potential, they can be included there also. You know the Yankees and Red Sox are both going to make the postseason. They have to. I'm pretty sure it's in the baseball rule book that they both have to be in the playoffs. if they aren't, ESPN will explode I'd love to see the 2 largest payrolls sitting in the clubhouse watching the games in October. Unfortunately we know it'll never happen. I would rather have the White Sox at home watching October. Whether that means both the Yankees and Red Sox getting in or if it means Cleveland plays well and gets into the hunt, I don't care. As long as the White Sox don't make the postseason.
  14. Already a thread in transactions.
  15. Actually, the big rumor is that Hendry has already given extensions to the coaching staff, but has been waiting for a winning streak to announce it. I wouldn't be surprised if that was true as well.
  16. So if Clemens hits a batter it would be a $7400 beanball.
  17. Astros fans everywhere rejoice. This isn't up anywhere right now. I checked espn.com, cnnsi.com, mlb.com, and astros.mlb.com.
  18. Haha. I'm having trouble deciding between Hank White, Gopher Ball Glendon and Neifi.
  19. Honest question, do any of you think they would actually fire any of them if they lose? I think there will be extensions no matter win or lose. The Cubs are currently on pace for a record of 62-100. There is no way you give an extention to a manager after a year like that. I think most people on this board would agree that Dusty isn't going to be fired at any point this year. Most Dusty haters just don't want an extention. Obviously, as long as no extention is offered to Dusty, there is still a chance he won't coach the team next year. The rumor is that Hendry is just looking for the right time (i.e. a winning streak) to give Dusty an extention. If the Cubs don't go on a winning streak then it will be hard for Hendry to offer the extention.
  20. And if the Indians actually decide to play to their potential, they can be included there also. You know the Yankees and Red Sox are both going to make the postseason. They have to. I'm pretty sure it's in the baseball rule book that they both have to be in the playoffs.
  21. That whole post is classic.
  22. I believe that Cuban is from Pittsburgh.
