  1. Ozzie Guillen is a foul mouthed punk and needs to learn some restraint.
  2. Yeah, Glendon will eat the apple, and more. In all seriousness, I wouldn't mind having the Cubs pay for their contract for the rest of this year (not the following two years in Jones' case) if that's what it took for the deal to go through.
  3. Angola gets a goal and now leads 1-0. Angola will need to put in 2 more goals (assuming the Portugal-Mexico match stays the same) because the tiebreaker after goal differential is most goals scored. Mexico has 4 and Angola only has 1 so Mexico is still safe right now.
  4. Quite possibly the worst dive of all time by Luis Perez as gets his second yellow card. The guy didn't even get touched. That was horrible. EDIT: I don't know who Rob Stone's announcing partner is for the Mexico-Portugal match but he is an idiot. He's steadfastly trying to defend Perez's dive saying that "there could have been a little bit of contact" which there wasn't and "it might not have been a dive" which it most definately was. Perez deserved a yellow card for blatently diving in the box for the sole purpose of trying to get another penalty kick for his team. He deserved a yellow card for that. It's unfortunate for him that it was his second yellow of the game, but that's his problem not mine.
  5. Omar Bravo hs a chance to send Mexico into the second round on the penatly kick but shanked badly. The goalie went the wrong way as well. Too bad Angola is scoring goals at the same frequency at which the Cubs score runs.
  6. Oh, man, Go Angola!! It's 2-1 now and not looking good for Angola. They haven't scored a goal in the WC yet and will have to put in 2 to have a chance to advance. I don't think Portugal is going to try as hard in the second half. We'll see though.
  7. I'm surprised that it took this long for this rumer to surface.
  8. Could Hendry really be able to part with another second baseman?
  9. And Mexico gets one back, 2-1 Portugal. Angola needs to attack more.
  10. Mexico is in trouble right now as Portugal is up 2-0.
  11. [rant] Hey. Eric Wynalda. Yeah you. I get it so you can stop already. You think Miroslav Klose looks like Jurgen Klinsmann. I GOT IT!! I understood you the first 3827445 you made the comparison so the 3827446th time wasn't necessary. [/rant] Sorry, just had to vent.
  12. The Gaints gap is a biggie. Especially when they have to look across the bay and see the A's victories. Or down the coast to the Dodgers. My dad (a Dodgers fan) loves that the Dodgers have won multiple WS titles while in LA but the Giants haven't won won since they moved to SF (considering they did move within a couple years within each other). Actually they both moved in the same offseason (first season = 1958) Thanks for the correction. I knew at most they moved within 2 years of each other but didn't know it was the same year.
  13. I wouldn't mind bringing Wood back with an incentive-laden one year deal assuming that the base salary is in the $2-3 mil a year range.
  14. Dusty Baker actually has a brain. I'm not saying he uses it or it's actually functioning. I'm just saying that he has one.

  16. Well I hope you aren't coming for the baseball team.
  17. Wow. What a pathetic game thread. Well, I guess it fits the team.
  18. I voted "Cows?"
  19. Do you also remember Game 7 in 2002 against the Kings?? ;) One of these days, I am going to re-watch that game and just count the injustices that occurred. Yes and the Kings choked in that game. It's Game 6 that you are thinking of with the injustices and I'll give you that one. Here are the box scores. Game 6 Game 7 The Kings blew Game 7 because they went 16-30 from the free throw line while the Lakers went 27-33. Game 6 you can make a perfectly good case for so I'm not debating you on that one. The Lakers earned Game 7 but Game 6, well, you know. EDIT: The Kings also shot 2-20 from three point range in Game 7.
  20. Disagree. Owen has not been playing up to snuff the entire time, now that England can call up someone new, they will have a full-time striker. Not disagreeing with you, just curious. Who else do they have as options besides Crouch and Rooney? And what do you mean by "call up" - can they drop Owen from the team and bring in somebody else.
  21. There is one exception to this that I can think of and that's when teams used to do the Hack-A-Shaq and would just grab Shaq up until there were two minutes left in the half (when the foul became a shoot the free throws and get the ball back situation) to send him to the line. Shaq often had games where he would shoot 20+ FT's and occasionally had a game with 30+ FTA. He even had a game where he shot an unbelievable 39 FT's against Indiana in Game 2 of the 2000 NBA Finals. I'm not old enough to remember if they did this to Wilt as well but I believe they did IIRC. I believe that Wade broke Bob Petit's record for free throw attempts in an NBA Finals game.....so the numbers go back for a while Basketball-Reference It's the game on 2000-06-09. Wow....that I did not know......thanks.....quite the stat......for some reason I thought the announcers referred to Petit....I must have not been paying attention...thanks for the # I'm a Lakers fan. I remember the Hack-A-Shaq like it was yesterday and figured Shaq had a game of 25 FT's in the finals. I didn't know he had 39 though. That amazed me as well.
  22. I took an Exercize Biology: Sociology of Sport class a couple quarters ago. We were talking about games that are sports and others that are spectacles. The WWE obviously fell in the spectacle category but he said that the NBA is closer to falling into that category than the other "major" sports. I agreed with him then and do even more so now.
  23. I can't wait to hear what Mark Cuban is going to say about this.
