I know JP Dellacamera said it, but I said it to my gf before. That goal hurts because Croatia played so well in the first half and were a couple minutes away from going into halftime tied and now they're down 1-0.

I would not go that far at all. I think its more than possible they lose in the quarters, hell Italy could beat them in the round 16. I think at least 5 countries have very legit shots of beating them. If they lose in the group stage then it would be a huge upset. If they lose in the knockout stage it would still be an upset but not a huge upset. Brazil will be favored in each of their matches though. A team would have to play an almost perfect match to beat Brazil though.

I wouldn't call it disappointing. Both teams had numerous opportunities to score but neither team converted. It was an entertaining game though.

I would be a little more hesitant to trade with the Cardinals, or any NL Central team for that matter, simply because they are in the Cubs' division. I would also be more hesitant to trade with any NL team than any AL team because of the Wild Card. I would consider the White Sox to be equal to any other team in the AL. That being said, any trade that would help the Cubs in the future, I would be in support of as long as we are getting decent parts in return. I could care less who the Cubs are trading with. If the trade helps the team, it's a good trade. If the trade doesn't them the team, then it's a bad trade. Simple as that. -
My dad did the same thing. I wanted to call him at work and tell him to not get excited but I couldn't because I knew he would be ticked if I did. I haven't talked to him yet but I'm sure he's not pleased that he went with media blackout all day and had to watch that atrocity of a match.

It's amazing how much better both France and Switzerland look than the US did yesterday. It's nice to see teams actually be able to put together a competant attack.

Are you referring to the Swiss set piece where the deflection went off the post? That was so close. Should've had a goal there though.

Not to burst your bubble, but even if we beat Italy and Ghana, we might not advance. Let's just say that everybody in the group beats Ghana. If we beat Italy but Italy beats Czech Republic, all three would end up with 6 points. Then it would come down to goal differential. Considering the fact that we are already -3 on GD, we are in some serious trouble.

I wonder what would have happened in the game had Reyna's shot gone in and made the score 1-1. I wonder if that would have given the team a much needed energy boost.

Yeah, hopefully I win the lottery tomorrow too. I really don't expect them to score a goal. Maybe someone a little more knowledgeable on the subject can correct me if I'm wrong, but if the score stays the same, wouldn't the U.S. need the Czech to win out to have the best chance to advance? Yes. If the Czech Republic wins out that means every team in the group will have at least 1 loss (Ghana a guaranteed 2 since they lost to Italy as well). If the US beats Ghana and Italy then they'll advance. If they beat Ghana and tie Italy, then it would come down to goal differenctial. In otherwords, the US would have to absolutely destroy Ghana and hope the Czech Republic stomps on Italy. The latter is unlikely because the Czech's would only need a tie in this situation. This is why we NEED to beat Italy. If the US would have lost by 1 goal, that would have been different. But right now we are down 5 in goal differential to Italy.

Well if it helps one of those 4 ties was against the US in 2002 Which game? We beat Portugal 3-2, tied South Korea 1-1, lost to Poland 3-1, beat Mexico 2-0 and lost to Germany 1-0. No 2 goal comebacks for a tie there.

Slick and The Big Broken Down need to figure out something quick. They looked awful today. The BBD had just five points on 2-5 shooting in 28 minutes and wasn't even in foul trouble.

No. There is a reason nobody has done it since 1941. Everybody was talking about DLee hitting .400 and winning the Triple Crown last year and he didn't come close to getting either of those.

I made sure to request off the mornings when the US was playing a month ago. I also requested the semifinals and the finals off a month ago as well to make sure I didn't have to work.

I only watched the second half of the Mexico game. What happened to Borgetti? After the first 15-20 minutes of the first half, Portugal didn't look that good against Angola. In fact the Portugal-Angola game was very similar to the England-Paraguay game. Both England and Portugal scored early, had a couple other chances, but on the whole neither looked very impressive.

Done! I inserted you after ndistops, since that's where you spot-started. I appreciate it when people spot-start the threads, especially since I've had a crazy work schedule over the past few months and usually am not around for the end of night games. The game thread forum has been around for a couple of years now, and we know how everyone's schedule changes a lot with vacations etc once summer really kicks off. I am already on the list after Jazz and before Shavo. I don't lose my spot there do I, but I do get credit for the loss, yes?

the offside rule is only in effect if the person recieving the ball is in front of the passer/ball. the ball can be played sideways or backwards (or forward as long as the recieving player is behind and runs onto it) and it doesn't matter. gotcha. thanks. That was the one thing I hated about refereeing - a majority of the parents not understanding what offsides was. That was so aggravating sometimes. Hey now, I just couldn't remember the rule! :D Allow me to clarify. I get aggravated by parents that don't know the rule but think they know the rule and therefore I, not them, are in the wrong and get mad at me for it while I'm refereeing. It's one thing for a parent to not know the rule and ask me at halftime about it. I don't mind that in the least and I actually like that because the parent knows that they don't know the rule and I do (hence the reason I'm refereeing) and would like to know the rule themselves.
