  1. Simunic should be out of there. He received a yellow card in the 62 minute and just got another one.
  2. Red card for Croatia followed a couple minutes later by a red card for Australia. Both were second yellow cards and both were deserved. Croatia nearly became the first team to score with 10 men on the field in this year's World Cup.
  3. Figures, I drop Ronaldo from my fantasy team and he gets two goals. Either way he's now tied for total career goals in the World Cup.
  4. And another "bulge in the old onion bag" from Tommy Smyth.
  5. ESPN says Prior on Friday and Marmol on Saturday but cnnSI has the same thing as Cubs.com which is the opposite of ESPN.com.
  6. HAHAHAHA. On Saturday the Cubs will be facing a guy named Boof.
  7. Actually, based on paper, most prognosticators thought they'd win the division, didn't they? They're about where I expected them to be right now, actually. I know they'd have rough stretches. There is a guy that you might have heard of that was the big reason behind this. His name is Pujols. Not sure if you've heard of him.
  8. It's all in the context in which it was used. Cubbyvirus, you calling your friends that name is a lot different than Guillen calling Mariotti that word. They are your friends so they know you don't mean it in a nasty way. The last time I checked, Guillen and Mariotti aren't friends at all. It's different. I'm not condoning the usage of the word, I'm just saying that one must look at the context in which the word was used before one can determine how mean it is.
  9. Horrible play by the Australian goalie there. He easily should have saved that. That's just horrid goalkeeping.
  10. Juninho puts Brazil up 2-1 as the Japanese keeper should have made that save.
  11. He's really fleet of foot and nimble. The last time the country of Japan was hurt by something of that size, they needed Gamera to save them. HAHAHA. Ronaldo almost tied Gerd Muller as that shot went just wide.
  12. Guillen equated homosexuals and child molestors while in New York last year. Not sure about the context but Guillen did it. I've heard this referenced several times, not just here, but also by national sources like Jim Caple. My question is...Why didn't this make bigger news last year? or is my memory just getting that bad? I don't remember it either. It didn't make bigger news because it's just Ozzie being Ozzie.
  13. Ronaldo finally strikes and gets his 13th total World Cup goal. 1-1 now.
  14. Guillen equated homosexuals and child molestors while in New York last year. Not sure about the context but Guillen did it.
  15. 1-0 Japan. Tamada did very will to stay onsides on that play. I don't think this game will end 1-0 though.
  16. I am really liking the ref for the Brazil-Japan game. He's letting both teams play and is not calling every little bump and shove and hasn't given out a yellow card yet. Amazing, a ref keeping the cards in his pockets until they are absolutely necessary.
  17. The Marlins in 2003 had Brandon Looper as their closer for a majority of the year (28 saves). Ugueth Urbina also had 6 saves. To go back a couple more years, the Diamondbacks in 2001 had Byung-Hyun Kim as their closer. Not exactly intimidating. So it is possible.
  18. Time to watch Brazil.
  19. 1998 was definately worse. We were in an easier group and finished dead last. At least this year we were in the Group of Death and managed a point against a very good Italy team. All that the team could take out of 1998 was that they sucked. This year we played extremely well against Italy. I mean, we were down a man for the whole second half and not only didn't concede a goal, but had a couple chances to score ourselves. We also played well, although not great, against Ghana. The thing that needs to be worked on is the finishing. Too many times did we have a chance to get a good shot on goal but couldn't even force the goalie to make a save.
  20. Prior can't pitch any worse against the Twins than he did against the Tigers can he? I hope not.
  21. Two straight days we set the record for shortest game threads. Wow.
  22. The Yankees hold club options on Mike Mussina and Gary Sheffield in 2007. If they choose not to exercise either player it would free up $28.5M. Even if they choose to keep one, it still gives them $13-15M to instantly spend. If Zito decides to stay in the AL, I think it's high probability that the Yankees get him. Although, if Zito has a preference for California, the Angels have the offseason money ($20M free with Erstad, Weaver and Kennedy off the books) to get it done too, if they prioritize pitching. My thinking still is that the Angels will use the money to go after Soriano. And while the Mets could get into the bidding for Zito, my dark horse pick in the NL is the Giants. The Giants potentially have their 5 top salaried players all coming off the books (Bonds, Schmidt, Durham, Finley, Alou) for a potential of $50M available to spend. Plus, Zito has said many times that he loves the Bay Area. I'm going to guess that the teams with the best chance to land Zito are the Yankees, Red Sox and Angles with a darkhorse being the Dodgers.
  23. Final Group E Standings Team W D L P GS GA GD Italy 2 1 0 7 5 1 4 Ghana 2 0 1 6 4 3 1 Czech Republic 1 0 2 3 3 4 -1 United States 0 1 2 1 2 6 -4 Italy and Ghana advance
  24. Costa Rica and Serbia & Montenegro have already finished 0-3. Trinidad & Tobago and Iran have also finished with 1 point and a -4 GD. Croatia, Japan, Togo, Tunisia, and Saudi Arabia are the only other teams are the only other teams that could finish worse than the US. So yes, we will be close to last and will for sure finish in the bottom quarter of the teams.
  25. Reyna is getting old and I agree that he should be done. I agree with these points completely. I think it's safe to say that Landon Donovan is one of the most overrated players in the world and probably the most overrated player on the team. He didn't do a thing in the World Cup and he's supposed to be our best player? Please. Beasley's pass and non-goal are going to completely overshadow the fact that he sucked, which is unfortunate.
