  1. Chip and Stone were great but I don't mind Len and Bob at all. As for Bob being manager of this team, I would be surprised if he wanted the job. I sure wouldn't.
  2. Not only did he get a hit, but he got an RBI on the play as well.
  3. I would believe Nolan Ryan hitting 103. The others, I'm not so sure about. Why? Cause he doesn't play right now? Because Nolan Ryan was a notorious hard thrower. I didn't say the others can't do it or didn't do it. I just said I put more faith in Ryan than the others.
  4. It looks like FIFA is actually blaming the referee's for the match. I'm going to have to watch a replay of this game sometime. My dad has it on TIVO so when I go home next weekend I'll have to watch it because I know World Cup Live won't do it justice. It sounds like the referee absolutely butchered this match. I hope this makes FIFA wake up to what's been going on but they'll probably just consider this game as an anomaly and won't do much of anything.
  5. I agree with him in that regard. I think the referees have, for the most part, been way too quick to hand out yellow cards. Some cards are warranted and necessary but the referee must look at the context of the game before handing out a yellow card. For anybody that watched, the referee for the Brazil-Japan match was excellent. Also, even though he handed out 6 yellow cards, the ref for the Argentina-Mexico match was excellent as well. The referees aren't supposed to be noticed on the field but they have become the story of the World Cup. I don't necessarily think that the referee needs to talk to every player but they don't need to hand out yellow cards like they are going out of style. I agree with he was saying but he makes the point of saying it in numerous times in every single broadcast. Its a valid point but he's beating a dead horse. True. It makes me want to say 'Hey, Marcelo. We get it already. We understood the first 10 times you said it during this broadcast."
  6. Here is the full article.
  7. Most everybody would agree with you that it's not a good lineup but the word in bold is the key. It's a probable lineup and it's more than probable that Dusty is going to put Pierre in the leadoff spot. I don't think he's trying to say that these lineups are improbable or that there isn't sound reasoning behind placing Pierre in the leadoff spot of these likely lineups. He's just saying that Pierre sucks. I second this. I agree with the fact that Pierre sucks. But again, it's a probable lineup, i.e. something likely to happen, not a 'what I would do if I was the manager' lineup. We all know that Dusty is going to put Pierre as the leadoff hitter so making a probable lineup without Pierre leading off isn't probable.
  8. Hey Marcelo. I bet England is happy to have Beckham on the field, eh? Still think he shouldn't be playing? Idiot.

  11. A school chum of mine and I treated our fathers to a Fathers' Day doubleheader in 1966 against the Houston Astros. The CUBS, of course, responded by losing both games. Ah.... the memories !! You're really showing your age now Fred.
  12. I may be misinterpreting your stats but 211/897 is .235 not .190.
  13. Thank you. I don't know where your initial post was but I didn't feel like going through the whole game thread, even with how short it is. Good to know he made some progress.
  14. Marcelo Balboa basically just said that David Beckham should not be on the field right now and there are other players on England that could do a much better job than Beckham is currently doing. I would love to know what the Brits on here think about that statement.
  15. Welcome back Albert Pujols. For anyone that doesn't know, Pujols is still leading the majors in HR's and RBI's this year.
  16. I'm pretty sure they skipped Prior because a) they didnt want to pay the 10 million dollar signing bonus and b) Joe Mauer was the golden boy from St. Paul. If this were an alternate universe, Prior would be on the way to his 3rd Cy Young, and his second straight 300k season. But we have Dusty and Larry and Jimmy. They still had to pony up a very good deal for Mauer to sign with them. Remember Joe Mauer had a FOOTBALL SCHLARSHIP to be the QB for Bobby at Florida St. So they still had to convince Joe to sign. Wasn't necessarily hard, but still necessarily. It wasn't anywhere near the amount of money it would have taken to sign Prior though.
  17. God forbid that Neifi Perez ever goes on the DL. Dusty's head might explode because he won't know what to do.
  18. I just love how Mariotti explained Guillen's actions. Hilarious.
  19. I would probably watch solely for DLee if I didn't have to work today.
  20. Why not give the guy another shot at starting in the bigs this season. Season is lost anyway. I like this move.
  21. Hey, if that ends up happening with this years team, I don't care if the Cubs lose every game for the rest of the year.
  22. No Crouch today either for England.
  23. The last time the Cubs lost 100 games in a season and went 59-103 that year. The 2006 Cubs are currently on pace for 100 losses for the year.

You are spot on with the reason on why Mauer was picked over Prior. It was the combination of both rather than one more than the other.
