  1. Announcers during the Georgia game kept saying that a conference title game loss won’t be held against a team. Assuming that’s correct, what happens if today, Indiana wins, Penn St loses and Oregon beats Indiana by 3 TDs. It would seem harsh on Indiana to drop them out but at the same time, they would have gotten rolled by the only two playoff caliber teams on their schedule.
  2. I love that they switch sides in the OTs. So when it gets to the 3rd OT and it's only 2-point conversions, each team has to go to the other end of the field in between OTs.
  3. Well they're in the SEC title game already so that would be how.
  4. I’d call the timeout immediately. Get your best play that can pick up 10 yards so you’re in FG range. You should have enough time to run the FG team out there if you can’t get out of bounds.
  5. How hard is it to just have the rule be “the contract is for X years and $XXX total therefore the luxury tax hit is $XXX/X”? Defer however you want to but it’s not going to change the luxury tax hit. If that means Shohei’s deal is only $450M or whatever actual dollar figure it was, then fine. This deferral stuff is horsefeathers.
  6. Man City was up 3-0 at home to Feyenoord through 74 minutes. It’s now 3-3.
  7. So, are City broken? First time Pep has ever lost 5 straight games in his career. The underlying numbers aren't good either so it's not like they're just crushing teams and getting unlucky. I mean obviously they're not going to lose every game and they'll still finish top-4. But something clearly isn't right. As for Spurs, their ability to get results against City always baffles me. They've got the second best record against Pep for teams he's faced more than 5 times, behind only Liverpool. And while Liverpool makes sense because they had Klopp for almost all of those games, Spurs have churned through managers and all of them have beaten Pep. Poch, Jose, Nuno, Conte and now Ange all won at least 1 game against City. Also, they're going to lose to Fulham by exactly a goal next week because that's what they do. If these idiots had just beaten Palace and Ipswich, who have a combined 0 wins this year in 21 games when not playing Spurs, they'd be second right now.
  8. Browns have 3 wins this year and two of them are over Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Makes total sense.
  9. Here's a fun one and from a couple angles. If you're the ref, what do you do here? Salah is denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity, which is a red card. However, the ball rolls to Nunez, who scores. What if he shanks the shot? Can you then go back and give a red card because they didn't score or do you just have to let it be? If you're Liverpool, what's the ideal outcome? Would you rather take a 1-0 lead at home with 70 minutes to play or be 0-0 while playing up a man for 70 minutes? I think the ref did the right thing by letting it play out, but that's a really tricky situation if Nunez doesn't score there.
  10. I will say, I do like how the new format makes the schedules a bit more even. I mean, it’s never going to be anywhere close to fair, but before, teams in Pot 1 and 2 had an advantage getting to play 4 of 6 games against generally weaker sides. So when a team like Newcastle gets stuck in Pot 4, it’s going to be rough. But now each team from all four pots gets 2 games against every pot. So there are still going to be unbalanced schedules, but the gap has narrowed.
  11. Congrats in advance to the Dodgers for signing Roki Sasaki this offseason.
  12. Sporting, Monaco and Brest are 2-3-4 in the UCL, just like we all predicted. Meanwhile, Man City, Arsenal, Bayern and Real aren’t in the top-8.
  13. Indiana, Oregon and Penn State are all undefeated. They also don’t play each other. It won’t happen but it’s possible that an undefeated team might not even play for its conference championship. Great sport we have here.
  14. Good, that guy could have actually hurt Mookie by yanking on the glove/wrist like that.
  15. For a sport that is such a crapshoot in the playoffs, it's pretty surprising that of the 24 teams before tonight that went up 3-0 in the World Series, 21 of them completed a sweep.
  16. ten Haag sacked by ManU. Surprised it didn’t happen sooner.
  17. Lol Jets.
  18. They have fewer AFC East titles than the Colts, who last played in that division in 2001. They also have the same number of AFC East titles as the Houston Oilers, who last played in the AFC East in 1969.
  19. Mariano Rivera pitched 19 seasons. His only season with an ERA above 3.15 was his rookie season when he started 10 games. His 3.15 ERA in 2007 was his only season as a reliever with an ERA above 3. In 11 of his 17 full seasons as a reliever (excluding 2012 when he got hurt and made 9 appearances) he had an ERA under 2.
  20. Mahomes is... 23rd in QB Rating 11th in QBR 21st in TD passes 16th in passing ypg 1st in interceptions Yet he's somehow the MVP favorite. I know he doesn't have the weapons he used to and he's obviously a great QB, but the stats have to matter.
  21. I think the only way I could be less interested in this series is if it was the Cardinals in there instead of the Dodgers. Although I guess in that case I would grit my teeth and root for the Yankees. In this case I just don't care who wins.
  22. I know the 8 wins came against the A's (who sucked), the Angels (who sucked) and Tigers (who had already clinched a playoff spot) - and that the first two of those could have come in June and we wouldn't have noticed - but I'm a little disappointed the Sox managed to end the year 8-6 and only finished with 121 losses rather than 124 or 125. Would have been better if they had clearly been the worst team of the modern era.
  23. Can someone who follows college football closer than I do explain how Florida State went from a 13-0 regular season in 2023 to starting 1-6 in 2024. I'm sure they lost plenty of talent to the draft but that happens to all of the big schools each year. Were they just an incredibly top heavy team last year that got a little lucky, went 13-0, lost most of those dudes and didn't have anyone to replace them? Michigan lost a ton of talent and one of the best coaches in the sport, and they're still 4-2 this year. Washington also lost a ton of talent and their head coach and they're 4-3.
  24. Emmanuel Clase gave up 2 home runs in 74 1/3 IP this regular season. He gave up 2 home runs in the 8th inning today.
  25. My interest in the playoffs has dropped dramatically over the last week.
