  1. Went to the River Cats game yesterday. Highlight might have been seeing a guy in a Jason Motte jersey. I didn’t ask him the thought process behind that purchase. There’s always a random name you recognize at these AAA games and the Bees started Jake Marisnick, Keston Hiura and Cole Tucker.
  2. He’s magic, you know, Mauricio Pochettino! Really happy I can root for him again. Don’t let us down, Poch!
  3. And wasn’t it like 4 seconds late too? It’s not like it was 30 minutes late. 100% with you on the judging sports too. Never been a fan of how arbitrary they can be.
  4. But it is different because Smith keeps running and actually is in the penalty area when the goal is scored. She's involved in the play. Swanson could have very easily passed the ball across for a tap in. Do we know for sure it didn't affect the movement of the Brazil defenders or the goalie? We don't. If Smith had just stopped when Swanson called her off and not continued running, I'd be more okay with letting it play out and it not being offside. Ultimately I agree with you in that the play probably doesn't go any different if Smith stops. But she didn't stop and that's the issue for me. This happened in either a EPL or UCL game within the last two years and it was called the same way. I disagreed with that one too.
  5. Swanson’s goal probably shouldn’t have counted. Once the other woman, who was offside, runs after the ball, she’s involved in the play and that should be it. Don’t have to touch the ball to be involved in the play.
  6. This paragraph really hit home to me. I play in a rec softball league through work in the summer and I get our team organized each week (send out invites, make sure we have enough players, etc). The first couple years I would generally use the term girls, mainly because I would also use the term guys. At some point I thought that girls just seemed to weird to say when referring to adult women. Can't remember what made me think about it but that's irrelevant. So I started to make sure I would just go with the terms male and female rather than guy and girl. I never really thought about why saying girl when referring to adult women sounded weird but saying guy when referring to adult men didn't. But what you said in this paragraph, in terms of boy-girl and guy-girl, nailed it. Terms like lady or gal sound just as weird to say, if not weirder, than girl. So men and women it is then.
  7. So close to hitting my bet on the Field to win gold.
  8. I was thinking earlier that 5 games back of Atlanta isn't terrible but then I realized Atlanta is on pace for 86 wins which would require the Cubs to go 29-16 (104 win pace) just to tie them. That makes it seem much more daunting of a task.
  9. I can’t get enough of these stats.
  10. I mean I know the answer is the wind, but it’s still amazing that ball only got to the basket.
  11. If the Red Sox don't play Jansen in that game it will be very disappointing.
  12. All time is probably Sosa. I was 13 in 1998. Day games I would come home from school and tune in to WGN waiting to hear of Sosa homered that day. Recently is most of the 2016 team, with a few obvious exceptions. If you made me pick one it's probably Rizzo because he was the first glimmer of hope in the rebuild.
  13. It appears the fight was real, the reason wasn’t. Sounds like a late hit on Fields.
  14. Eloy probably tweaked his back just thinking about packing his bags.
  15. Especially since they generally haven’t been very good for the entirety of the franchise.
  16. Well the White Sox were winning tonight. Then the 8th inning happened and they gave up 2 solo homers and a grand slam. Now they're down 8-5 in the bottom of the 9th.
  17. I’m honestly surprised it’s not higher considering we tend to play a lot of close lower scoring games due to good SP, bad hitting and a bad pen.
  18. So what happened to Atlanta's offense this year? Sean Murphy went from .844 to .631 Matt Olson went from .993 to .699 Ozzie Albies went from .849 to .711 Orlando Arcia went from .741 to .577 Austin Riley went from .861 to .795 Michael Harris went from .808 to .653 Ronald Acuna went from 1.012 to .716 About the only guy doing better is Ozuna and he's only 67 points higher. It's not like it's an aging team either where you'd expect regression. Of those 7 guys, only Olson is age 30 or up and he's exactly 30.
  19. Because it was boring watching guys take pitch after pitch after pitch waiting for the perfect one, then only hitting like 4 home runs anyway.
  20. Spain deserved to win that game but Declan Rice is going to me rueing that chance right at the end. He was wide open and headed it right at the goalie.
  21. Man we let Skenes go? Fire Jed for that one. LOL.
  22. So you use xG to defend him against Jamaica but then ignore that against Uruguay? The team had 0.56 xG in a game they needed to win. Figure out a way to create, well, anything. As for that Jamaica game, I see 2.68 xG for the game which I’m assuming includes extra time. That means without the own goal, that number is much lower since two goals were scored in extra time.
