  1. Looks like 2 points from those 5 games was too optimistic.
  2. In 2013 and 2018, Toronto was down 3-1 to Boston, came back to force a Game 7 and lost. They also lost a Game 7 to Boston in 2019. All of those games, like this one, were in Boston.
  3. So either Boston is the first team in NHL, NBA or MLB history to blow a 3-1 series lead in back to back seasons or Toronto will lose their 6th straight Game 7.
  4. Need to at least get a third run this inning.
  5. Batting average his H/AB. OBP is (H+BB+HBP) / (AB+BB+HBP+SF) PCA has no walks or HBP this year but has a SF, so the formulas simplify for him to BA = H/AB and OBP = H/(AB+SF). In his case, AB+SF > AB and the numerator is the same in both formulas.
  6. Personally, I’d rather use the guy with the 0.68 ERA and hope he can get 5 outs over the guy with the 5.54 ERA and 5 blown saves this year. If Leiter blows it, oh well. It happens. I’d just much rather lose with the better pitcher on the mound.
  7. That being said, the offense only getting 1 run against Joe Ross is more to blame for the loss.
  8. Then I deal with that situation when it comes. If it was 7-8-9 coming up in the 8th, then I’m more okay with letting Alzolay come in. But I’m not bringing in the guy who has appeared in 14 games this year and blown the lead in 5 of them to face the top of the order in a 1 run game. The other side of the “what if” coin works also. What if you bring Leiter in, he gets two outs and the Cubs score a couple runs in the 8th? Now you feel much better about bringing someone else in.
  9. In that case I’d bring in Leiter against the top of their order, let him start the 9th assuming he doesn’t throw a ton of pitches, and then bring in somebody else if need be for the #5 or 6 hitter if Leiter’s pitch count gets up there.
  10. Just make it now. Either you’re right or you can take credit for a reverse jinx.
  11. The right answer is to just not use Alzolay in a 1 run game again unless he’s the last guy in the pen.
  12. That was a Rizzo-like “I think I’m faster than I actually am” attempt at a double there.
  13. Pat Bev is a dick? Who could have guessed!
  14. And they didn’t even need a 95th minute goal to tie like the last couple games. Just an insane streak.
  15. This should be a quick confirmation.
  16. Oh now the zone expands on pitches that at no point in their path to the plate were in the strike zone.
  17. I don’t like how the bottom of the 5th is going.
  18. Aston Villa would have to completely fall on their face and even then it might not be enough. Even if Villa loses out, Spurs would still have to get a point at Chelsea, at Liverpool, vs City. I would think they could get a point but it's no sure thing. If Villa merely gets 3 points from 3 games, Spurs would have to get 4 points from those three games (I'm assuming they beat Burnley and Sheffield in both scenarios). Their chances ended when Liverpool lost at home to Atalanta and Arsenal lost at home to Villa. At that point it pretty much required Arsenal knocking out Bayern in Germany, which was going to be a tough task. A solid season but it's a missed opportunity (though part of that is bad luck since England was in a great spot going into the QF to grab an extra spot). They're going to be in Europe next year which means a lot of Sunday EPL games after Thursday European games. City and Arsenal aren't going anywhere. I would think Chelsea is going to be better in the second year under Poch. Newcastle will strengthen and likely won't be as injury ravaged. Have to hope ManU continues to underperform and Liverpool takes a step back with Klopp gone (very realistic since that dude is a magician). Have to hope Spurs make some solid signings as well and take a step forward in the second year with Ange.
  19. I’m not sure there’s evidence to overturn this.
  20. https://www.mlb.com/news/worst-records-to-start-an-mlb-season Worst 25 and 50 game starts in the WC ERA. Also lists the worst 25 and 50 game starts in the Divisional Era and the Modern Era.
  21. Yeah, and they were also in the same league as the Yankees which made it tougher. But 7 playoff appearances in the 50 years since baseball first expanded the playoffs. And they have 5 in the WC Era but I don’t know how to look up how that ranks compared to all the other teams.
  22. They've made the playoffs 11 times in 120 seasons! That seems hard to do.
  23. Lester would have stood there with a blank stare as Ross ran all the way out to get the ball.
