  1. This is untrue. If I am Pedro Martinez and it's the offseason between 1999 and 2000, and I say I predict I will win the CYA, does that make me an idiot or arrogant? That makes me betting on the odds. But this is a tangent but there are a few cases where predicting a CYA for yourself isn't idiotic. I don't have a problem with that comment. It came off wrong, but it seemed to me like that was his goal. Frankly, I'd rather his goal be to win the CYA than make the playoffs, because of he does the first the second would come. No, because Pedro usually backs it up. And so does Z. Until 3 months out of this year. Z's never had Cy Young stuff. Pedro did. Sure he has. He has some of the best stuff in all of baseball. He's been good enough to be an ace of the Cubs but he's never been top 5 in either league at any point. He walks too many batters and his subsequent WHIP not at the elite level (only one year under 1.2 and that was a 1.15 in 2005).
  2. Care to tell us how you really feel RegulusBlue?
  3. Hooray for artificial and forced apologies!! Save the words and just pitch well, Z. Judge much? Sure there's a chance he's sincere with it but I highly doubt that. Z's true feelings came out yesterday and I would be willing to bet anything that somebody (Lou/management/his agent) are basically forcing him to do this. I just can't see Z making a complete 180. I mean, did anyone really believe Barrett and Z when they said there was nothing wrong after Z decked Barrett? I sure didn't. That being said, regardless of whether it's a sincere apology or not, I would still rather see him not say anything and just go out and pitch well on Saturday in Pittsburgh. Oh cmon - you've played sports haven't you? You've never done or said anything out of character during or right after a game? He wasn't drunk and uninhibited - he was frustrated and upset with himself. His motion to his head on the field makes me think otherwise. He had a few innings to think about this in the clubhouse before he had to speak with the media. This wasn't a closer giving up a walkoff home run and then talking with reporters 10 minutes later.
  4. And Michigan dropped out of the AP poll also. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankings?pollId=1&seasonYear=2007&weekNumber=2 They are tied for 32nd in the AP poll and 27th in the Coaches Poll. And I just heard on College Football Live (which answered a question I was about to ask) that Michigan is the first team to drop from the top 5 in the polls one week to completely unranked the next week.

  6. Don't know if anybody has seen or mentioned this but Michigan has completely dropped out of the Coaches Poll. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankings?pollId=2&seasonYear=2007&weekNumber=2

  9. So we are villifying him by wanting him to stop sucking and start pitching like the ace he is? Ya sounds like we are real irrational. you've been villifying him from your very first post. And no one said anything about the fact that wanting him to stop sucking is a bad thing. But that yesterday was beyond that. We are going to have to agree to disagree because you arent going to change my mind that there was nothing wrong with what took place yesterday from the fans. I was just about to say the same thing, because I think yesterday was bushleague and classless. So was his performence... hahahahaha. that's a good one. yea z's all out hustle and zeal and passion for which he plays the game is the complete opposite of bushleague and classless. But I know you need to feel justification for the way he was treated by supposed fans yesterday. And his stupidity caused him to run through a stop sign and make the first out of the inning at home plate by a wide margin.
  10. I can too because Z realizes if he punches one of his fans he knows he'll have a lawsuit on his hands.
  11. It's not as if this was his first bad start in a month or two, this is his fifth bad start in a row Not to mention that he's been bad more than he's been good this year.
  12. I think this is myth. I think the expectations for Zambrano have always exceeded his actual ability. I can agree with the expectations part. While his ERA and subsequent ERA+ have been good (ERA+ over 130 each year from 03 to 06), he's always issued a lot of walks (no worse than ninth most in the NL every year since 03) so his WHIP has never been among the league's best. His 05 year of 1.15 is the only year he's been under 1.2. I will say that even though the expectations are high for Z, he is having his worst year since he became a full time starter in 2002 (with 03 being his first full season).
  13. He's prone to bottoming out more than any other pitcher. Z has the talent to be one of the best pitchers in the league but the reason he hasn't is in his head. When he gets rattled, he overthrows his pitches which leads to walks and, sometimes, blowups. The reason it doesn't happen more often is because the talent he has allows him to escape jams more often than the average pitcher does.
  14. Of course not. It's his obvious mental instability and his tendency to get rattled easily.
  15. SI has a partnership with baseball prospectus. Don't be surprised at all. Well that's good to hear. Anything to stop having to hear the media cite W-L record when talking about how good a pitcher is.
  16. You nailed it. Z signed a contract and stopped trying to pitch well. Which explains why he is so upset about being booed. Because he doesn't care. I really think he is upset about being booed because he just doesn't get why he was being booed.
  17. I think it's fair to boo stupidity as well, which Z has clearly exhibited.
  18. FSU is going to get the ball back with around 35 seconds left as Clemson will be punting.
  19. The only problem I see with Z coming out and apologizing tomorrow is that a lot of people (including myself) aren't going to buy it because it will seem like somebody (whether it be Lou/management/his agent) forced him to and it won't seem like a sincere apology. I would rather have him not apologize for what he said - at least he's being honest and isn't giving some BS excuse - and just come out in his next start and pitch well.
  20. 8-) Or five.
  21. I'm shocked to see a writer from SI use ERA+ in an article.
  22. And those Yankee fans were correctly labeled idiots by most of the rational world. Do you think Cubs fans are idiots for boo'ing Z? Z has done nothing close in the Majors to compare at all to what Arods done. Not idiots, but definitely selfish like Z said. You know the punching bag named Jason Marquis who some people on here have said has sucked this year (I'm neither agreeing nor disagreeing)? Well, Z's been a worse pitcher than Marquis this year. This is a whole lot different from the ARod situation last year. ARod had a .915 OPS last year for an OPS+ of 140. That's well above average. He was very, very good last year and Yankee fans were stupid to boo him. Z this year has an ERA of 4.35 this year which is going to be right around average. Marquis has an ERA of 4.2 and his ERA+ is 107.
  23. Florida State isn't even pretending they're a good team this year and are down 21-0 in the second quarter to Clemson.
  24. Cubs lose eleventy billion to negative 2.
  25. I wouldn't call walking a ton of batters antics. I'd call it bad control. I'm more concerned with that. I think it's more being a complete headcase which leads to many of the walks. The guy just can't control his emotions.
