  1. Well, considering the Cubs go on the road on Tuesday, this will be a short game thread run, so hopefully they can just avoid getting swept here. 4-2 homestand wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. GO CUBS!!!
  2. Road Cubs don’t score in that one inning and allow Crawford to score after his triple.
  3. Remember in Game 4 when Joe outsmarted Bochy by having Coghlan in the on deck circle to get Bochy to bring in a lefty so he could put Contreras in there instead? That worked out quite well for us.
  4. I always like pointing out that trade would have been worked out just fine if we had only received Strop in return.
  5. The Nats series should be interesting. I saw somewhere that they've been playing at a 108 win pace for the last ~80 games or so, and lately their offense has unreal. RD of +44 in their last 10 games and that's with 2 losses in there. On the plus side, we miss Scherzer and Corbin.
  6. 85% of PA's against Darvish this year either end in a K or a HR. That's obviously not true, but it sure feels like it.
  7. I'm a Cub fiend, but come on man. Just enjoy Hawaii and come back to the Cubs in a week or 5. I'm not in Hawaii. My work has an office there and one of the guys who works there is a Cubs fan. He told me he was blacked out from watching this game. I looked on MLB's site and saw it was all the California teams.
  8. Fun fact: all of the California teams are blacked out in Hawaii.
  9. artist rendition of the brandon morrow era: I have no idea who we might have used that $10M on, but I'm gonna be pissed about that signing probably forever. It allowed us to see something we’ve never seen before - a pitcher being unavailable the day after throwing only two pitches in a game. That was the game against the Marlins that went like 16 innings last year where Maddon had him warm up 4 times in the bullpen before coming in.
  10. Twins have 3 plus two more guys with 23 and another with 20. Houston has 3 and another with 23. For us, Willy has 19 and Heyward has 18.
  11. Would be nice if the Brewers at least showed up next week at home against St Louis.
  12. That regression we all expected last year came all at once this year. Shaw went from 4.1 bWAR to -0.9 Cain went from 6.9 to 1.8 Aguilar went from 3.2 to -0.4 Harder and Jeffress went from 5.5 to 1.5
  13. Decent just drove in 3 on a pop up to short left because both the 3B and LF gave way.
  14. That's bonkers. This team is so weird. Our Pythag would have us at 13 games over. We are going on a run boys. I think we want the Brewers to take this series in St Louis. The Brewers schedule is getting pretty tough here. I think the ideal scenario is Milwaukee taking 4 of 6 from St. Louis over the next 10 days. I would even be okay with 5 of 6 depending on what we do and what Milwaukee does against Arizona also.
  15. But how far back do we go in the play? Is it only the guy who scores or sets up the goal? What about the guy who passes to the guy who sets up the goal? What if a guy wins a ball at midfield with his arm and dribbles all the way up the field before passing the ball to the guy who scored?Wherever you cut off the line, it’s going to be arbitrary. I don’t think this rule makes it any more clear cut than it was before.
  16. Thames homer. 15-13.
  17. Sac fly and the Nats tie it.
  18. Of course the Nats are rallying. 1st and 3rd with 1 out.
  19. Yelich homers again. 13-12 Brewers in the 13th.
  20. VAR ... Great invention or greatest invention? In all seriousness, I hate the new handball rule. It was an accidental handball. I know City benefited from it, but the goal wasn't scored directly from the handball. I didn't like the handball call in the UCL final and I don't like this one. Are they going to give PK's every time a defender touches the ball with his hand in the box? Because it only seems fair to do that if you're going to disallow goals for stuff like this. As for City, not only do they get denied by VAR again in extra time against Spurs, but the handball rule that's in place now would have overturned Spurs's winning goal in the UCL quarters last year because it went in off Llorente's arm.
  21. It wasn't the case today but you can chalk a couple up to taking the starter out too early.
