  1. Relax, the point wasn't to insult, just to do something a little different. The point remains that it's impossible to find someone that's unquestionably clean. Maybe "unqeustionable clean" maybe TOO HIGH of a standard in today's baseball, but I still wouldn't take Giambi, who not only used steroids, but LIED about taking steroids. No thank you. A cheat is one thing, but a cheat and a LIAR, no way. Call it the Sammyitis.
  2. What the hell is Rusch signed for? He sure looks like a LH BP pitcher to me... But dude, Glendon has saved the Cubs from having to call a "productive" pitcher up...oh wait.... Glendon is the DEFINITION of batting practice. We already have two lefties in the pen (Ohman/Eyre) and the Cubs already have two lefties in the rotation (Hill/Marshall), so that leaves Rusch without a job. The BP pitcher role is his...by definition....but hold on.... Who would win: the Cubs offense or Glendon Rusch? :-k
  3. You're fooling yourself if you think it's a temporary problem. With or without Lee, they have a crap bench. They need all the help they can get in that department. They've spent all their energy trying to find versatile bench players, meanwhile, they haven't bothered finding a bench player that can hit worth a lick. I don't care if a guy can only play 1B defensively, they still need bats, desperately. I agree, but would Clark waive his no-trade clause to come to Chicago to sit on the bench? "I firmly believe that if the Lord wants me somewhere else, I'll be somewhere else," said Clark. "But my concern has been and will continue to be what's in the best interests of the Arizona Diamondbacks." So yes...he is amendable to waiving his NTC.
  4. But I figure his era will prolly jumped abit within the next couple of yrs.
  5. That's like saying....I don't have little or no interests in acquiring more money then Bill Gates. (which I do).
  6. DUKE from pittsburgh is good. No....Duke from Pittsburgh is merely SOLID against the REST of the league. Against the Cubs, Duke is simply Cy Young reincarnated. Looking back at it...I'd prefer to have seen the Marshall .v. Duke matchup.
  7. I can't stand the Jimmy Fallon Pepsi commercial. I might be a bit biased because I don't think I've seen Jimmy Fallon do anything remotely funny ever. Maybe because you don't have a sense of humor? Just kiddding. He's ok. I smirk ONCE in awhile for Fallon.
  8. SLOW pitch Softball. I know, it's not baseball, but right now...I'd take a slow pitch RF over Slop and Jock Jones.
  9. The Cubs are losing to the FRIGGIN' Pirates, by 8 runs? A FRIGGIN' change is needed. LF Murton 2B Hairston C Barrett 1B Walker 3B Ramirez RF Same kid who is seating along the RF line SS Cedeno CF Pierre This team needs a friggin' change, cause whateve Baker is doing, is clearly not working.
  10. Not all of us need to dye our head red. Some of us are naturally gifted.
  11. Recently the umps have been making bad/rude calls against the Cubs. So there MIGHT be some credence to jjigman theory.
  12. I wouldn't want Jason on the Cubs...because his season will never again go unquestion. You have to constantly put up :-s about his season. I want players who unquestionably clean, not players who you have doubts about. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y44/cubsfan_05/headline.jpg Could you be any more condescending with your post, TT?
  13. I prefer signing Pena to giving up a good player for Clark. The difference between the two is not enough to give up a good prospect for, IMO. Plus, Tony isn't exactly off to a hot start this season. Maybe so, but I don't think Pena is going to sign with the Cubs, when there are teams that have bigger needs for a 1st basemen. I do think Clark makes more sense for the Cubs then Pena, tho. I think Pena would be well served to sign with the Cubs. He knows he'd get to play everyday for at least 2 months, long enough to show what he's got. He would likely be traded after Lee returns. IIRC, Pena was out of a job for a while before the Yanks signed him, so it's not like he will have a ton of suitors. I know short-term the Cubs would be an ideal fit for Pena, but as I mentioned earlier, the Cubs DON'T have a legit RH pop off the bench, unless you count Hairston and Blanco as RH pop off the bench. Signing Pena would make the Cubs too predictable with their options off the bench. I wouldn't lose any sleep over Pena, but he wouldn't be my first choice. I'd still prefer Choi (if the Cubs were going after a lefty first baseman) to Pena, and I'd prefer Clark to both.

  15. Dusty Baker, Matt Murton, Greg Maddux, and Sean Marshall. RIGHT now, Sean Marshall is definately the leading candidate for ROY. Question is...will he be up at the major league levels long enough to qualify.
  16. That's a darn good point. Pena's OBP is consistently 90 - 100 points over his BA. If you could get the guy to hit just .275, he'd likely have nos as good or better than Clark's, and he's 10 yrs younger. The problem with Pena, is that the Cubs have too MANY lefty handed bats off the bench. They NEED a RH pop off the bench, hence the reason why the momentum is toward acquiring Clark, and not Pena. Clark is much better as a LH hitter though. Not really. I just look at his career numbers, and they are close. He has more pop from the left side, but he has solid pop from the right side. Clark knows that his role would be, and is willing to accept it. Carlos is still young enough to believe he can start, which he wouldn't get with the Cubs in less then 2 months. It's no question...I prefer Clark (and give up Wuertz, or some decent arm, ONE arm that's it) to Pena. His career numbers are pretty irrelevant at this stage of his career compared to the last 3 years. Last 3 years as a lefty: .255/.323/.569/.892 as a righty: .264/.334/.464/.798 He's not bad as a RH hitter, but significantly better from the left hand side. I still prefer Clark to Pena.
  17. I disagree. Its never to early to start thinking about it, cuz you only play some teams 2 home and away. You don't start thinking about the Wild Card till LATE June at the easliest(EARLIEST). As otis so blountly put it..."it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to early to start thinking WC." easliest is my new favorite word. :D
  18. For the love of GAWD, please put down what you are smoking cause it is clouding your judgement.

  20. =D> to Sean Marshall. He was APPARENTLY the only one who got the message that there was a GAME today. to the rest of the club, for letting a ROOKIE show up and the rest of youse bums (phony Brooklyn accent) decide this was an off day.

  23. Couple of statements that make you want to :x : The Cubs are in the bottom 10 of baseball in total offense. Only the likes of the Marlins/Royals/Pirates holding the Cubs from being the worst in baseball. (Don't get me wrong, A's, Angels, and the Phillies are also in the realm). The Cubs are also the SECOND worse offense in the NL Central...just who's worse? If Greg Maddux wasn't pitching as well as he is....you realize the Cubs could be 8-15 RIGHT now? Maddux is keeping the Cubs from being a totally crappy team. Gosh....this ORGANIZATION never learns....It's like watching a dog try and catch it's tail.
