  1. I don't get it :( At first I thought he meant that since Speier is considered somewhat of an outsider in the Cubs coaching ranks, and a potential candidate for the interim job if Baker is canned, that he's lonely with no friends in the current regime. But then I figured it had to do with his job, 3rd base coach, the guy who stands closest to any Cubs baserunners that actually reach 3rd base. Actually, I think Gooney hit it right on----unlike Cubs hitters---on both scenerios. Speier is not a "Baker guy", in fact Speier REPLACED a Baker guy in "Wavin' Wendall." So, it might actually be a GOOD thing that Speier is an "outsider" in terms of the rest of the coaching staff. Beisdes, would you want to be assoicated with the manager with the surfer attitude, and California dreams.
  2. http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/bakerge02.shtml This is the kid that Dusty wants, dude. Cause it would be so cool to have such a "versatile player" with the same surname as the surfer dude manager...like totally. Either him or Glen Beckert.
  3. Come on, "dude," the Cubs have to justify trading three valueable and cheap arms for him. Of course, Pierre stays at leadoff, even if its at the detriment of the team.
  4. All I know is I am no longer mad at the club, I am kinda numb towards the Cubs.
  5. Wow, you have some pretty good inside knowledge there. Bradley plus another prospect (Antonio Perez) were traded for a player from the Texas League (Ethier). I have a hard time believe the Cubs couldn't top or equal that. FYI, Andre Ethier is drawing comparisons to our own Felix Pie, from John Sickels The Cubs could equal that. Does Pie for Bradley and Antonio Perez interest you? Nope.
  6. Apparently, Jim "Maverick" Hendry and Dusty "Goose" Baker has this certain need......THE NEED FOR SPEED, baby. Baseball skills and IQ be darned, all the Cubs need is speed.
  7. To make it easier for Cubs to learn how to hit, should the Cubs be demoted to England and forced to play "Cricket?"
  8. While you're looking up stats, why don't you check his OBP? OBP is about the ONLY thing right now, Giles is good for. With his OBP hovering around .400 he SHOULD have more then 17 runs (in 31 games). Now you can't fault him for ONLY scoring 17 runs, you can fault those guys hitting behind him, but the proof is in the pudding. That OBP is an empty .400. At this stage of his career, if he can't slug around .450, then Giles should be a 2 hitter in the lineup. And for slightly under $8 mill per, Giles is so overpaid. Dare I say...Giles would have a BIGGER impact with St. Louis then he would in San Diego. An empty .400? He's in an offense that has been terrible, he's the only one with an OBP over .340. And that 17 figure is second on the team to Barfield's 18. Also, Giles' 3 year splits('03-'05) for April: .221/.372/.405/.777 That WHY I said you could blame the guys BEHIND Giles in the lineup. But it is still an "empty" .400, regardless.
  9. What do the Mets have that would help the Cubs? Victor Diaz, potential RH platoon partner with Jones. Career line of .304/.352/.486 in the minors. Had a nice start to big league career but hit a bump. Still just 24. Has a chance to be a solid major league bat, most likely will never be a star. Similar story to Jerome Williams when you think about it. I would love to get Victor Diaz (since the Mets have no interests in trying to get him playing time) and I believe Jerome Williams or Rich Hill would be enough to get him. And with the Mets pretty much refusing a rotation spot to Aaron Heilman, this kind of deal would make sense to both teams involved.
  10. While you're looking up stats, why don't you check his OBP? OBP is about the ONLY thing right now, Giles is good for. 11. Are you Bud Selig? Don't insult NCCub, LCCF. [-X
  12. Here's the sad thing about the Cubs current situation. The fact that such a crappy player would have "to think about approving a move to Chicago" tells you HOW LOW this team is, right now. Not that I endorse going after Millar: The Cowboy Idiot, but it does show that right now... there are some players that may not be all that interested in going to the Cubs.
  13. It don't matter HOW dominate Wood, and perhaps Prior are when the come back, if the Cubs CAN'T SCORE RUNS. You can only be perfect for so long as a pitcher, before it takes it toils on you. I'm not concern with the pitching, it's the hitting, I am concern with.
  14. It has to be said.....Do the Cubs even care at this point? I know what they say publicly, but the proof is in the pudding. This team COULD ABSOLUTELY not care how bad their performance is. And the worst of it all is that I read (in yesterday Suntimes) is that the Cubs are WAITING FOR THE RIGHT TIME to offer/sign Baker to an extension. This org...does not get "it."
  15. While I won't argue that this Cub team needs help now, this is the 2007 draft thread. I stand by my statement. The Cubs need help, even if they have to borrow it. :D
  16. Let's take any optimism out of this thread. If the Cubs could get only 2 hits off Chan Ho in 9 IPs last night, then we should be seeing history in the making tonight. We should see Peavy throwing a NO-HITTER against the Cubs, tonight.
  17. Yeah, cause we ALL know that 21 yr olds should be consider a bust.
  18. I have a little optimism left in my tank, and I am going to cash it in, now. What I am going to say is pure laughable, but I am still going to say it: When/IF the Cubs get hot, they will be scorching hot. But on the flip side, by the time they reach this kind of "hot" they should be about 20 games down to the Cards, so it doesn't matter.
  19. Guys have you forgotten already? The Cubs already used up their runs for the week. The Cubs scored 3 runs this week, thus the Cubs are not entitle to another run till next Monday.
  20. I would rather have Ozzie Osbourne managing the Cubs, over the DB twins.
  21. You know the Cubs should be banned from having an opportunity to bat.
  22. Tell us what it was like, Grandpa. we had a very hard time scoring runs, we had lost out best offensive threat to a freak accident a week or so before. Juan Pierre came in to score in the first inning. then jock jones got doubled off 2nd with the bases loaded killing a great rally, the pirates then scored on a infield single by joe randa. then the 8th inning came and matt murton hit the ball just out of the reach of jack wilson, jerry hairston came around to score. Ryan dempster came in to close down the pirates. it was great :-k LIAR. You are accusing the Cubs of ACTUALLY scoring a couple of runs, not to mention accusing them of winning a game? You better have some serious hard evidence to back up the claim. 8)
  23. Watching the Cubs "hit", is like watching Charlie Brown runnings towards Lucy---who has the football---and at the last second, just as Charlie is trying to kick the ball, Lucy pulls the ball away, thus Charlie completely misses the football and lands on his back. Hyperthetically question: Who would win: The Cubs or the kids from South Park?
  24. The bottomline: I don't believe the Cubs are missing Lee's on-the-field production---per se---I believe they MISS the whole package that Lee brings. Lee is a quietly leader who brings it, everyday. He brings a quiet confidence to the team. I hate to say...the Cubs miss his "swagger", so to speak. But the club stinking worse then 2 day old dog turds, is a GROUP effort.
  25. Yeah, just what the Cubs need more "veteran leadership" on a sinking ship known as the Chitantic. What is the USE of a "veteran leadership" on a team that blows (in Bostonian accent) chowder?
