  1. ---- The Cubs, IMO, will contend before Howry's cotnract is up. So I much rather hold onto Howry---who have been impressive.... (.88/.209/2.16) so it would definately take MORE then just Brandon McCarthy to land Howry. Add in the "rivalry factor" and I would ask for Jerry Owens along with McCarthy for Howry. But since Howry isn't GOING ANYWHERE, this is a moot topic.
  2. Remember the Cubs have a handshake agreement not to trade Maddux. And Hendry is pretty good at honoring these "handshake agreements." (remember Rod Beck) My guess is....the Cubs would talk to Maddux about a trade to a west coast team (if/when the Cubs fall out of contention) and if Maddux agree, then you might see things heat up. With that said, I would love to Guzman, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Cubs land either Matt Kemp, Dionar Navarro, or Andre Either(<----I really like this kid) for Maddux.
  3. So...when you pick them, you get them at their current contract status? So picking someone like Z you only get two years before he's FA (and he'll be expensive next year), but Verlander is yours for five more years? I'm not sure about 2-10, but Pujols is #1. I think he is talking pure talent wise TO START a franchise. Not taking in account the contract status. With that said this would bemy top 10: Alex Rodriguez Miguel Cabrera Derek Jeter Manny Ramirez Albert Pujols  Roy Oswalt Carlos Zambrano Vladimir Guerrero Carlos Beltran (yes, a surprise.....but still a productive 5 tool player) Grady Sizemore Eh, I would take Santana over Oswalt, who is 29. I would also take Wright over Jeter, and move ARod back to short. I would not take Manny, as he is 34. Top 10: Pujols Cabrera ARod Santana Z Sizmore Wright Bay Peavy Mauer First: I think Oswalt is more dominate then Santana, even if you factor in the leagues they pitch in. I just think Oswalt has better pure stuff then Santana, hence I put him over Santana. Second: So you wouldn't take Manny because he is 34, yet you would take Albert Pujols because he is 32 (alledgely)? I don't buy your reasoning. Manny, IMO, is slightly better hitter then Pujols (not by alot, but still...) and even at 34, I'd still take Manny over Pujols.
  4. I think Nevin will help outmore then what people are thinking. This is a player who struggle in the AL ever since he was drafted. But since he moved to the NL, he has had an OBP over .339 (not great but would be one of the better OBP on the time) for 6 straight yrs. I'm willing to say....moving back to the NL, and playing for a contract in 2007, wll rejuvenize Nevin.
  5. If the Cubs do trade Maddux (which is unlikely, right now) it wouldn't surprise me if they'd trade him to San Francisco or San Diego, just to screw over Colleti.
  6. Only the Cubs can make a pitcher who has given up a total of 86 HOMERUNS in the last 3 yrs, be shut down.
  7. 5. 3 to Pujols. 8. 3 to Pujols. And 1 to Edmonds, Taguchi, Eckstein, Luna, and Rolen. Gonna be tough for Edmonds to get one with him expected to go on the DL. :D And your point is? Rusch is going to start that game, so even from the DL, Edmonds would still take him out.
  8. 5. 3 to Pujols. 8. 3 to Pujols. And 1 to Edmonds, Taguchi, Eckstein, Luna, and Rolen.
  9. Face it guys...whoever it was at fault the fact remains, Corey wasn't going to produce in Chicago. Alot of people take that SMALL sample size in 2003, I believe, and assume he could do that over a full season. Yet...he was given two full season to replicate, and he couldn't. That is fact. I seriously doubt he keeps pace with his current numbers. In fact, I'm going to say his ave/obp will be similar to Pierre's before the yr is out.
  10. Why are people getting animated over a "meh" move? This move is what it is...move for some power, that's it. It's not going to make/break this season. If people haven't notice this team is full of girlyesque type hitters, Nevin---not a good hitter---does bring SOME pop to the team. And imo, at least for the short-term; Nevin at 1st, Walker at 2B, is better then Womack at 2b, and Walker at 1B. But hey...Womack is versatile. He can play SOME SS, OF, hell he can even run fast to the doughnut shop.
  11. Agreed. Same^. This isn't a world beater trade, but...considering other options like Tony Clark, JT Snow, Jeff Conine, Kevin Millar (Millah!!!!), getting Nevin was better then those bums, maybe outside of Clark. And if memory serves me correct, is Nevin a FA after the yr? So...not at all a abd move, just a decent move.
  12. Come on people, who else would love to see Cubs .v. Selig. The most electrifying owner in sports, versus the most boring sports president in sports? It's a billionaire's version of the "Odd Couple."
  13. Since when did Prior throw in the upper 90's with ease? He's always been know to throw "mid 90s" with ease. But Prior is better and more comfortable in the 92-94 mph range.
  14. Dare I say....a noogie sandwich to you, if you don't retract that statment? J/K.....and don't try jinxing the Cubs.
  15. Clemens has a "legandary workout system" (ie similar intensity that Walter Payton had) so, when he comes back, it won't be that he is "rusty", is that he would need to get into game shap. Conditioning won't be a problem.
  16. You can make a case for ARod should go number 1, also.

  18. I'm going to agree with baseball7897 on this one. From todays' Under The Knife (http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5133): Edit: I didn't realize Will Carroll's take on Prior had already been cited in this thread, but it's consistent with what Carroll has been writing about Prior for the last few days. Again, if this is a problem after a few more starts, then YEAH it would be a concern. But Prior hadn't pitch in a regular game in MONTHS, and this was his first start. So, it is a bit disheartening, but.....time will tell....
  19. Everybody knows about the NTC, but here are a couple of other facts: 1: Kerry's wife is from Chicago, and from all accounts has no desire to move from her hometown. 2: Kerry absolutely loves being a Cub, for whatever it's worth. Considering he hasn't pitch much since his contract extension three yrs ago, he has little to no leverage in contract talks, and with his wife wants to stay in Chicago, KW might be amendable to 2 yr deal worth 5/6 mill per (with incentives, OF COURSE) to re-sign with the Cubs. I seriously doubt KW will get anything near what AJ got last yr. So I didn't say he would take it, but I said he MIGHT be amendable to a paycut type deal. So with that said...I don't see KW waiving his NTC, unless a contract extension is work out with his new team, and given his history...no team is going to give him the extension after giving up a couple of solid prospects for him. So, I believe KW will be a Cubs in 2007.
  20. Prior's "velocity" is not a "major concern" after one start. When was the last time Prior pitched in a regular game? It's looks like to me that Prior was sacrificing velocity for comman tonight. The "velocity" will become a concern, if after 5-6 starts down the road...Prior is still topping 89 mph. But until then, it is not a concern.
  21. Question: Would the above scenario top losing a game on a 2-run sac fly? Or an infield fly bouncing off a defender's head? Would it matter?
  22. I say: The Reds are up 3-2 in the bottom in then ninth. David Weathers loads the bases on 12 straight Ricky Vaughn balls. Nefti Perez comes up with a chance to win the game, but promptly on the first pitch grounds the ball over to third base. Shocked that he even made contact with the ball, just look dumbfounded. Encarnacion takes the grounder, touches third, throws to 2b, and who in turn throws the relay to first. For the seldom seen game ending Triple Play. After the game...Perez is giving the lifetime achievement award for saving David Weathers career.
  23. Nah, it should "We take the CU out of the BS."
  24. Were you joking about preferring he hit it in Oakland? Because he hit 714 in Oakland and a majority of the crowd cheered him. Could it be that the majority of the fans at that game, were say......Giants fans? I will never recognize Bonds in the in the 700 club. To me...there are ONLY two players in MLB with 700 +homeruns(Aaron/Ruth), and 4 total in the history of the game (Oh in Japan, and Gibson in the Negro Leagues being the other two). There weren't necessarily a majority of Giants fans at the game. The A's have limited the number of tickets available for games in the past couple years (namely not seating people in the Al Davis section in center field) therefore increasing the percentage of seats sold. More people cheered because they live in the Bay Area. Hitting a milestone homerun in Oakland is the best road stadium Bonds could have possibly hit a homerun at. In other words...he is cheered in the Bay Area, and ridicule in any other parts of the country. I can deal with that.
