  1. My opinion of DJ "Hollywood" Lewis slipped a bit. Apparently he's a big fan of Raul Mondesi. :( But he gets an RBI on an IF single to make it 9-4.
  2. Boise up 8-4 after 5. Boise scored 4 in the 4th thanks in part to 4 errors, a wild pitch and a run-scoring play where the catcher went to visit the mound but forgot to call timeout (Puello ended up scoring). In the 5th, Canzler hit a 2-run HR, his second of the game. Petrick's final line: 5 IP, 4 ER, 8 H, 1/2, 2 HBP Billy ran into some more trouble in the top of the 5th, giving up 2 more runs. It's great to see Petrick hasn't lost that great sinking ability in his FB after the surgery - he racked up the groundballs again today with 10 GO to 3 FOs.
  3. After readng a bit more, it appears Huseby was really highly thought of his sophomore year (first round material). I guess he's lesser known because his injury came during his junior year while Adenhart's came in his senior year, allowing Adenhart one more year exposure. It's still awfully risky and Adenhart got half the bonus that Huseby did. Hopefully the Cubs get some results out of the risky Samardzija/Huseby duo.
  4. Colvin is 0/2 now with a K and a popup. He has K'd 8 times in 15 ABs.
  5. Canzler homered in the bottom of the 2nd for Boise, they're now down 2-1. There's a wildfire in the hills right outside the ballpark in Boise. Petrick: 3 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 1/2
  6. Boise is back at home which means we can watch their games on video feed!
  7. My only ND game this year will be Stanford... Troy Smith, Chris Leak, Brian Brohm, Ginn, Michael Bush, Steve Slaton, Sam Keller and Pat White round out Fox Sports's top 10 Heisman candidates after Quinn and Peterson, but at least at the start of the season it looks to me like a two-horse race between the latter two unless Smith keeps up the form he exhibited at the Fiesta (not entirely likely because it won't get much easier than ND's 2005 secondary). Marshawn Lynch, Cal?
  8. No problem, I have a blast doing it. :D
  9. And it will be because Barrett instigated them!! They wouldn't have cared about winning otherwise.
  10. He's probably working out in the Mesa facilities. He was drafted out of HS and was considered pretty raw.
  11. I'd guess Brett Jackson (0-1, 10.13 ERA, 8 IP, 5/4, 1.88 WHIP). Wonder what happened to Billy Petrick.
  12. Granted, the difference between Adenhart and Husbey is that Adenhart was a consensus top-10 pick before his TJS and Huseby was a virtual unknown. To me, this is definitely more risky than the Adenhart surgery.
  13. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Ryan O'Malley (4-4, 4.50 ERA, 72 IP, 52/17, 1.36 WHIP) @ RHP Denny Bautista (0-2, 6.88 ERA) West Tenn: RHP Juan Mateo (4-4, 2.71 ERA, 63 IP, 48/18, 1.11 WHIP) @ RHP Corey Thurman (2-7, 2.35 ERA) Daytona: RHP Mark Holliman (6-4, 2.78 ERA, 87.1 IP, 82/36, 1.06 WHIP) Peoria: RHP Matt Weber (Daytona: 2-4, 6.67 ERA, 55.1 IP, 26/19, 1.57 WHIP) @ RHP Mario Santiago (0-0, 0.00 ERA) Boise: RHP Brett Jackson (0-1, 10.13 ERA, 8 IP, 5/4, 1.88 WHIP)
  14. Bud Selig has got to HATE the Cubs right about now.
  15. Samardzija pitched on 3 days rest (of course that's not that big a concern when he only threw 33 pitches last time out). Jeremy Papelbon has now thrown 9 shutout innings to open up his pro career. Tyler Colvin has now struck out 7 times in 13 ABs in Boise (with 1 walk).
  16. ERA down to 1.85. 101 Ks, 16 BBs on the season.

  18. That's what happens when you're throwing flat mid-80s FBs with average-at-best sliders. :(
  19. West Tenn and Huntsville are scoreless going to the 5th. Shaver has 6 Ks through 4. Sotolongo and Grant Johnson are doing a good job for Daytona with 7 scoreless. It's 0-0 in the 8th. Peoria up 10-2 in the 3rd. Every Chief besides Johnston and Reynolds (2 walks instead) has a hit. Yusef Carter has a 3-run shot and 5 RBI.
  20. That's awesome, I'm glad to see the Cubs involved in the big names in the Latin American market, hopefully they can net more than one signing. You are the topic of message boards. Aren't you a sophomore-to-be Cal wide receiver?
  21. Ron, what are your thoughts on JR Mathes? He's really come on strong the past month or month and a half. What's he doing good and what does he need to work on? What are his pitches?
  22. He must have had a hell of a workout on May 26th and that other date in Mesa. I imagine his stuff is back - he supposedly has that FB that topped out at 93 mph, a curve, slider and change. He was on my list of most intriguing prospects after the 5th round (including Renshaw and Rundle)...but wowowowowowow is right. Hopefully the area guys know what they're doing.
  23. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Rich Hill (5-1, 1.91 ERA, 70.2 IP, 95/14, 0.83 WHIP) vs. LHP Brian Boehringer (1-4, 3.38 ERA) West Tenn: RHP Juan Mateo (4-4, 2.71 ERA, 63 IP, 48/18, 1.11 WHIP) Daytona: RHP Roberto Sotolongo (0-1, 2.25 ERA, 8 IP, 6/2, 0.88 WHIP) Peoria: RHP Todd Blackford (7-2, 3.64 ERA, 84 IP, 36/38, 1.40 WHIP) Boise: RHP Billy Petrick (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 9.2 IP, 10/2, 0.72 WHIP)
  24. Petco generally has more Cubs fans than Padres fans.
