  1. 2. Hopefully that's true. The ESPN link didn't even mention the Cubs had a chance at him and said Atlanta, Cincinnati, Cleveland, the Mets and Washington were amongst those interested. If they get Pena too, that would really be a good return to the Latin American market. Now to just get back into the Pac Rim/Asian market...
  3. Yay, Gooz has been freed (starting at AAA >>> sitting on the bench in Chicago).
  4. Great pics, Fred. Nice to see some faces of the posters around here.
  5. Pina is having a whale of a game. 6 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2/1
  6. Michael Main/Robert Stock/David Price come on down!
  7. He should have bunted instead of hitting that HR.
  8. Huseby has the same advisor as Samardzija.
  9. You mean the school with all those criminals? (You know, you really can't go wrong saying that about either USC.)
  10. He's probably working out in the Mesa facilities. He was drafted out of HS and was considered pretty raw. BA finally confirms in a story mainly on the Huseby signing:
  11. Slugger's such an instigator. You never see me bad mouthing ND. :^o
  12. Like Jon, I didn't think the Bulls would get him...let alone for 4 years. Awesome!
  13. You are the topic of message boards. Aren't you a sophomore-to-be Cal wide receiver? They didn't get the real big names. They got the "budget" big names. The Yankees and Red Sox got the big ones. Its ridiculous if money was the issue with the top ones when you consider how much they gave to Huseby. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2508432 Of course, at age 16, Huseby was considered first round material. These kids are still 16-year olds, there's still quite a bit of risk involved in their signings. I doubt money was an issue. Remember, these kids have to want to sign with the teams too - and the Yankees and Red Sox are easily the most popular teams outside the US. Frankly, I'm just glad the Cubs have made a big signing in Latin America for the first time since Felix Pie and Jose Martinez.
  14. You'd figure poor Todd Walker is gonna get tired from all that bat swinging. I bet Johan hates ND too.
  15. The Cubs have a league in The Dominican Republic, so I'm guessing there unless the guy is already advanced enough to handle the transition to the States. Usually they have to work out visa issues and that junk before bringing a guy over, to boot. Although, happily, those issues have lessened in recent years. I don't think we'll see Suarez in the States for another 2 years.
  16. And my comment about Neifi being like the coach's kid, which is quoted in Mizzou's sig...for which I say thanks, BTW. It's too bad Dusty doesn't manage to win instead. Yeah I know, he wants to win but man....he really does do some bonehead things. Constantly. Dusty creates an atmosphere that players like. Players are happy and play well and win. His managing has always been week.Teams have won in spite of his managing. His teams expect to win... Until the end of 2004 here... Williamson and Murton don't sound happy to me. Dusty keeps crappy players happy by over playing them, other than that I see nothing that he adds to a team. Now Baker's alienating his players in addition to general crappiness as a manager. So if the "players manager" inspires nothing but hatred from his own players, what do you really have here? Wasn't there a thread a while back that 6 Cubs players hated Dusty? Was it just a rumor or was there confirmation on that? Definitely, they all need to go.
  17. that's not true. 2004-2006 LD%: 2004: 19.1% 2005: 17.7% 2006: 22.0% his HR/F is also higher this year: 2004: 12.5% 2005: 10.7% 2006: 12.8% THT It's probably even more exaggerated now, but I calculated his numbers minus his bunt hits and bunt hit attempts, and the numbers weren't pretty. A large portion of his hits this year are bunt singles. A smaller separate portion are infield singles (speed). He's basically Juan Pierre with a little more power. Oddly enough, the stats Dobson posted disprove your point that Corey is just pulling a Slappy.
  18. He has regressed.
  19. false. Look at Patterson's numbers when he isn't bunting for a base hit. Awful. What's the point? What does it prove?
  20. Come on now, not many people in the big leagues are smaller than Z.
  21. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Les Walrond (7-2, 3.55 ERA, 88.2 IP, 69/42, 1.48 WHIP) @ RHP Ryan Baerlocher (3-3, 3.78 ERA) West Tenn: RHP Sean Gallagher (2-1, 3.24 ERA, 16.2 IP, 15/13, 1.86 WHIP) @ LHP Jorge De La Rosa (0-0, 0.00 ERA) Daytona: RHP Mark Holliman (6-4, 2.78 ERA, 87.1 IP, 82/36, 1.06 WHIP) Peoria: RHP Wade Miller (0-0, 1.29 ERA, 7 IP, 5/1, 1.14 WHIP) Boise: RHP Jose Pina (0-1, 3.00 ERA, 9 IP, 3/1, 1.33 WHIP) vs. RHP Bryant Thompson (0-0, 0.00 ERA) Mesa: RHP Alberto Albuquerque (0-0, 9.00 ERA, 2 IP, 3/5, 4.00 WHIP)
  22. Wow. So, if Pierre continues his retched season, Hendry is gonna offer him arbritration in hopes of getting a draft pick? What happens when he accepts and gets $9M/year? That's an awful gamble to take. Keep Walker and offer him arbitration instead.
  23. That's not a good way (at the very least, it's a very incomplete way) to evaluate a minor leaguer.
  24. My only ND game this year will be Stanford... Troy Smith, Chris Leak, Brian Brohm, Ginn, Michael Bush, Steve Slaton, Sam Keller and Pat White round out Fox Sports's top 10 Heisman candidates after Quinn and Peterson, but at least at the start of the season it looks to me like a two-horse race between the latter two unless Smith keeps up the form he exhibited at the Fiesta (not entirely likely because it won't get much easier than ND's 2005 secondary). Marshawn Lynch, Cal? He's very good but he'd have to have an absolutely HUGE game in the first four or five to get his name on the map because I don't think many people know a lot about him. Is he really less well known than someone like Sam Keller? He definitely deserves to be amongst the other names Fox Sports mentions.
