  1. Daytona hold s on to win it 5-4. Schappert goes 1.1 to get the save.
  2. Currently it's 49-35 in favor of the Cubs game thread, but mark my words, this game thread will win out today.
  3. Iowa still down 7-4 after 7. Daytona up 5-4 after 8. Beloit up 3-2 on Peoria after 6. Boise scoreless after 1.
  4. Not too shabby. :) Good to see the BBs down.
  5. Jae-Kuk Ryu won't play because of his sprained ankle. :(
  6. Walrond now in pitching for Iowa. I wonder if he always looks this mad: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v177/Navinda/walrond.gif
  7. Iowa now down 7-4 in the 6th as Jerome Williams gave up 2 solo HRs in the 5th. West Tenn has added 2 more and now lead it 6-0. Gallagher: 5 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 9/2. Daytona has come from behind to take a 5-4 lead in the middle of the 7th. Sotolongo only went 3: 3 IP, 3 ER, 4 R, 5 H, 2/1. Peoria up 2-1 in the middle of the 4th. Ryne Malone with a solo HR. Yepez: 3 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2/0.
  8. Felix's 3rd AB: He grounded out 1-6-3 (deflected off the pitcher): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v177/Navinda/piechart.gif Pie is 1/3 with a strikeout.
  9. Maybe it's time to make Guzman a closer candidate. One outing determines a career? Especially as Angel's building his arm strength after not being used by Dusty for 2 weeks?
  10. Angel's 4th: Chad Allen lines out to center fielder Felix Pie. Mike Coolbaugh singles on a line drive to right fielder Michael Restovich. Mike Aviles singles on a ground ball to left fielder Luis Montanez. Mike Coolbaugh to 2nd. Justin Huber doubles (12) on a ground ball to left fielder Luis Montanez. Mike Coolbaugh scores. Mike Aviles to 3rd. Jared Price grounds out, third baseman Casey McGehee to first baseman Micah Hoffpauir. Andres Blanco doubles (8) on a ground ball to right fielder Michael Restovich. Mike Aviles & Justin Huber score. With Kerry Robinson batting, Andres Blanco steals (3) 3rd base. Kerry Robinson grounds out, shortstop Ryan Theriot to first baseman Micah Hoffpauir. 4 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 1/1, 65 pitches (40 strikes)
  11. Gooz: First inning- Kerry Robinson pops out to third baseman Casey McGehee in foul territory. Fernando Cortez flies out to center fielder Felix Pie. Shane Costa grounds out, first baseman Micah Hoffpauir to pitcher Angel Guzman. Second inning- Chad Allen grounds out, shortstop Ryan Theriot to first baseman Micah Hoffpauir. Mike Coolbaugh flies out to center fielder Felix Pie. Mike Aviles flies out to right fielder Michael Restovich. Third inning- Justin Huber strikes out swinging. Jared Price flies out to right fielder Michael Restovich. Andres Blanco walks. Kerry Robinson singles on a ground ball to third baseman Casey McGehee. Andres Blanco to 3rd. With Fernando Cortez batting, Kerry Robinson steals (13) 2nd base. Fernando Cortez singles on a ground ball to right fielder Michael Restovich. Andres Blanco & Kerry Robinson score. With Shane Costa batting, Fernando Cortez steals (9) 2nd base. Shane Costa pops out to third baseman Casey McGehee.
  12. Angel has a rough 3rd and gives up 2. It's now 4-2 in the bottom of the 3rd, Iowa leads. Beloit and Peoria tied at 1 in the 2nd.
  13. Iowa up 4-0 in the top of the 3rd. West Tenn and Chattanooga are scoreless in the 2nd. Gallagher: 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 3/2. Daytona down 4-2 in the 5th.
  14. The Dodgers are offering Kemp, Billinsgley and Izturis for Maddux, Williamson and Aramis? Somehow I find that hard to believe, given the Dodgers don't want to give up either in a potential Willis trade.
  15. Disappointing that the lost the shutout. Now come to the US, Klinsmann!
  16. Suarez actually got $850,000 for his bonus, not the $350,000 reported by ESPN. In the Pac Rim, Cleveland signed Sung-Wei Tseng (age 21, Taiwan, pitched in the WBC) to a 1-year minor league contract and the Angels signed Young-Il Jung (age 18, South Korea) to a $1 million bonus.
  17. Mesa loses 5-3, they strand the tying runs on base.
  18. Good news that he started in CF since there were some concerns about his ability to play there. Rundle had an RBI line drive single to LF in the 8th. Mesa down 5-3 in the 9th with 2 outs, but the go-ahead run is at the plate.
  19. Vance, no offense, but you come off as a big time homer on this one. Emmit's records based on longetivity are great, but when you look at his YPC, etc. stats, they don't hold up with some of the other greats. And those other greats (Sanders, Payton especially) never played with the linemen that Emmitt got to. And it's really tough to compare guys from different eras because of the size, strength, athletic ability, schemes, etc. that were so different between eras.
  20. Probable Starters: Iowa: RHP Angel Guzman (2-4, 4.03 ERA, 44.2 IP, 51/13, 1.21 WHIP) vs. RHP Ryan Baerlocher (3-3, 3.95 ERA) West Tenn: RHP Sean Gallagher (3-1, 3.18 ERA, 22.2 IP, 19/15, 1.63 WHIP) vs. LHP Camilo Vazquez (AA debut) Daytona: RHP Roberto Sotolongo (0-1, 2.40 ERA, 15 IP, 11/2, 0.80 WHIP) Peoria: LHP Jesus Yepez (4-4, 3.33 ERA, 81 IP, 43/42, 1.38 WHIP) @ LHP Alexander Smit (2-2, 4.60 ERA) Boise: RHP Jose Pina (1-1, 1.80 ERA, 15 IP, 5/2, 0.93 WHIP) Mesa: RHP Alberto Albequerque (0-0, 4.50 ERA, 4 IP, 5/5, 2.00 WHIP)
  21. Outshined mentioned most of the hitters of intrigue (Baez, Canzler, Colvin, Joseph and Lewis). The starting pitchers will indeed be Pina and Muldowney tag teaming with Pawelek. Also, if LHP reliever Jeremy Papelbon comes in either day, anything on him would be great. If you could get velocity readings for any of the pitchers, that'd be awesome.
  22. And given a weak FA class, I doubt it will help the Cubs improve dramatically. Looks like we'll probably have to hope the Cubs are one of the worst 15 teams so their pick is protected again (of course this isn't even an issue right now). If the Cubs are one of the 3 worst does that effect the second round in any way or is it just the first round? In terms of protected picks? Just the first round (and top 15 picks, at that).
  23. Sean Marshall's IP: 2001: Age 19, VCU: 72 IP 2002: Age 20, VCU: 85 IP 2003: Age 21, VCU: 86.1 IP + Boise: 73 IP + Lansing: 7 IP = 146.1 IP 2004: Age 22, Lansing: 48.2 IP + WT: 29 IP = 77.2 IP 2005: Age 23, Daytona: 69 IP + WT: 25 IP = 94 IP 2006: Age 24, Cubs: 93.2 IP Obivously the 2003 IP is somewhat misleading since he had a break between his time at Virginia Commonwealth and the Cubs system. I'd like to see him not get extended much in his starts right now and really limit his innings to around 150.
