  1. delayed double steal. norwood to 2nd, valdez came home on the throw... Isn't that the second time a Chief has stolen home this year? Or I'm getting mixed up here...
  2. Iowa is up 2-1 in the 2nd. Felix Pie with a solo HR (12) to LF to lead off the game. Wade Miller gave up a 1-out solo HR to Joe McEwing and also gave up a single and a walk in the first. Wade: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 20 pitches (12 strikes). West Tenn is scoreless as they come up to bat in the bottom of the first. Peoria is up 2-0 in the bottom of the 1st, scoring 2 runs on an error, 3 walks, a sac fly and Jesus Valdez stealing home.
  3. Daytona scores 3 runs on 3 hits and an error in the top of the 4th and they regain the lead, 4-3. Veal's fourth: Veal vs. Lawhorn: Ball 1. Strike 1 looking. Fouled back, strike 2. Slow roller to Craig, putout 3-1. Veal vs. Gutierrez: Ball 1. Strike1 swinging. Grounder to Craig, 3-unassisted. Veal vs. Purdom: Strike 1 looking. Ball 1 just missed (changeup). Ball 2 down low. Ball 3 high (fastball). Ball 4 inside (fastball). Veal vs. Tiburcio: Strike 1 on the inside corner (fastball). Ball 1 (fastball). Pitching coach Pratt out for a mound visit. Pickoff attempt, Purdom safe at first. Fouled back, strike 2. Fouled back, count remains 1-2. Fouled out of play, count remains 1-2. Ball 2 low, Purdom CS, 2-4. 4 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 3 K; approximately 65 pitches. Daytona leads 4-3 after 4 innings.
  4. Veal's third: Veal vs. Tiburcio: Ball 1 barely outside. Ball 2 high. Ball 3 just outside. Strike1 called (fastball). Ball 4 on the inside corner (fastball). Veal vs. Williams: Sacrifice bunt, Craig tags out Williams. Tiburcio to second. Veal vs. Strait: Ball 1. Ball 2 just missed. Ball 3 high. Ball 4 high. Runners at first and second. Mound visit from pitching coach Tom Pratt. Veal vs. Janish: Strike 1 called (fastball). Apparently that same pitch has been called a ball earlier in this inning. Strike 2 swinging. Popped foul and out of play. Ball 1 low and away. Fouled back, count remains 1-2. 2-RBI triple, Tiburcio and Strait score. A Matt Craig throwing error allows Janish to score. Veal vs. Garthwaite: Ball 1. Strike 1 called. Strike 2 swinging. HBP. Veal vs. Piepkorn: Strike 1 called, Garthwaite CS, 2-4. Strike 2 swinging. Strike 3 swinging! 3 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 3 K Daytona down 3-1 after 3. For the second straight start, a couple of walks and an extra base hit kill Veal. :(
  5. Veal's second: Veal vs. Lawhorn & Gutierrez: Sorry, my computer died. Missed these two ABs, but Veal got them out. Veal vs. Purdom with 2 outs: Strike 3 swinging on a full count pitch. 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K Daytona leads 1-0 after 2.
  6. Matt Craig with an RBI single and Daytona jumps ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning. Donnie Veal's first inning: Veal vs. Strait: Popped up to shallow CF, 1 out. Veal vs. Janish: Called strike 1 (fastball). Bloop single to RF. Veal vs. Garthwaite: Strike 1 swinging. Pickoff attempt, Janish safe at first. Flies out to RF, 2 outs. Veal vs. Piepkorn: Ball 1 high. Strike 1 swinging (fastball). Called strike 2, inside corner at the knees (fastball). Pickoff attempt, Janish safe at first. Grounded foul (changeup), still 1-2 count. Ball 2 barely high (fastball). Strike 3 swinging! 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K, 11 pitches (9 strikes) Daytona leads 1-0 after 1.
  7. Getting back to the playoffs looks like it got a bit harder for the DJaxx - Arizona's Carlos Gonzalez was promoted from High-A Lancaster to the Southern League North-leading Tennessee. I'm kinda disappointed, I was supposed to head up to Lancaster in the next few weeks to see Gonzalez. Guess I'll head out to Rancho and see Nick Adenhart instead, but it's always tougher to match up a game with a pitcher.
  8. Perhaps because he's still lower half of the system. I expect both Gallagher and Veal will make their big league debuts next season.
  9. It doesn't matter what Dusty says, Wade Miller will be up next week (barring any setbacks).
  10. You'll routinely see them in the 95-110 range. Pitchers at lower levels normally don't top 100. Last time out for Iowa, Ryan threw 102 pitches.
  11. Eyre went on the 15 day DL Eyre's still on the 40-man when he's on the 15-day DL. yeah, that's right. That was the announcement they made on the pregame, but I guess it didn't sink in. It's ok, I forgive you. :)
  12. Eyre went on the 15 day DL Eyre's still on the 40-man when he's on the 15-day DL.
  13. The assumption is that Wood was moved to the 60-day DL. No one was removed, the roster was at 39.
  14. This ballpark SUCKS. That was entertaining, though...
  15. Peoria has now lost seven in a row.
  16. I agree with Outshined. He doesn't throw hard (mid-80s FB, also has a curve and change), but I think he'll at least get some time in the bigs as a reliever.
  17. So a flyball to the outfield will score him. Now it won't...
  18. Who said anything about awake and coherent? Awake, anyway! :D Thanks for the lineups, Bruce -- and your excellent articles, as always! Agreed. Thank you very much, Bruce!
  19. O'Malley features a mid-80s FB, a slider and a circle change.
  20. I don't understand why you think it'd make more sense to have Miller start. He has no future with this organization. Why waste a start on him when we can give O'Malley a look? Because eventually Wade Miller will be starting for the Cubs, whether we want it or not. And I'm not the biggest O'Malley fan.
  21. Cut it out, guys. I was referring to Wade Miller. Ryan O'Malley's 2006 stats at AAA Iowa. Ryan O'Malley's career minor league stats. He was signed as a non-drafted FA in 2002 out of the University of Memphis and has made 46 starts over 5 minor league seasons.
  22. That is interesting but they play fewer games in Japan and it doesn't appear that Rotoworld is taking that into account. For instance, Matsuzaka has throw 1,967 pitches in 18 starts this year, which is a about 110 pitches per start. Zambrano has thrown 2,265 pitches in 26 starts, which is about 87 pitches per start. Livan Hernandez has thrown 2526 pitches in 24 starts, which is about 105 pitches per start. Just for clarification, Z has thrown 112.2 pitches per start, or 2917 pitches this season. That's a good point, although pitching on 6-days rest might (not sure what a combination of 2 extra days of rest but more pitches will necessarily do) help combat that. But he'd have to get used to pitching on 4-days rest here, which might actually hurt.
