  1. Billek has had a rough year: Daytona: 18.1 IP, 0-1, 8.84 ERA, 2.02 WHIP, .329 BAA, 10 Ks, 10 BBs, 1 HBP, 5 HRs Peoria: 35 IP, 4-5, 5.66 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, .300 BAA, 25 Ks, 11 BBs, 1 HBP, 3 HRs Boise: 25 IP, 1-1, 7.20 ERA, 1.76 WHIP, .330 BAA, 11 Ks, 7 BBs, 4 HBP, 5 HRs Total: 78.1 IP, 5-7, 6.89 ERA, 1.75 WHIP, .317 BAA, 46 Ks, 28 BBs, 6 HBP, 13 HRs Very disappointing for a third round pick from last season.
  2. I'd been thinking the opposite, that his power has been a pleasant surprise. He's got 3 HR's already in what 80 AB? Project that to an everyday big-leaguer and your around 20. He's hit lots of doubles, like you say, especially lately. Of 24 hits, 9 have been for XBH, that's very good. His slugging is now over .500, his IsoP over .200. So I think his power has been very encouraging. If he's hitting XBH and HR's like this at age 20, who knows what he'll be able to do at age 26 and 29. I'm wary that it's just a hot streak for Colvin. Hopefully he has turned the corner and is playing like the guy Wilken saw.
  3. Ugh. HR #3 served up by Billek. This one's a 2-run shot by Halman (who had 2 off Pina last night) and it's now 10-7. Billek's night is over: 4.2 IP, 10 H, 7 ER, 1 K, 4 BB, HBP, 3 HR
  4. WT won 5-3. Colvin retired for the first time on the night on a first-pitch 4-3 groundout.
  5. Second straight day he's been an XBH shy of the cycle (yesterday he was a HR shy). Of course he still has a few more ABs today... Boise up 10-5 in the 5th in another classic pitcher's duel between Everett and Boise (following yesterday's 14-10 Boise loss).
  6. He was at his pitch count max (around 100) and it was warm and humid out in Florida (shocking, I know).
  7. WT is up 5-3 in the middle of the 8th. Mateo: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 K, 2 BB, 2 HBP. Boise up 4-2 in the 2nd.
  8. According to the postgame show, Veal is still struggling with his release point on the curve ball. His curve was moving all over the place and was a good reason for his 4 BBs and 9 Ks.
  9. Peoria wins it 3-0. Avery goes 1.2 and gets the save.
  10. Daytona wins it 3-1 (7 inning game), Schappert gets the save.
  11. 91-94 mph FB, plus 12-6 curve, average circle change...very deceptive delivery.
  12. I agree. I also think it's not a good idea to judge their big league careers by comparing their brief minor league careers. I do think Marshall will be better big leaguer because (over the course of their minor league careers) he has better control, gives up fewer HRs and has better stuff than Hill.
  13. Veal's night is done. Hunton gives up a hit to break up the no-no. After a walk and 3 WPs, the shutout is gone to. After 6, Daytona is up 3-1. His final line: 5 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 9/4, WP, ERA down to 1.03.
  14. Daytona lost the suspended game from yesterday 6-1. Daytona up 3-0 in the 6th. Veal: 5 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 9/4. Peoria up 3-0 in the 8th. Atkins: 7.1 IP, 0 R, 7 H, 7/0. Back-to-back good starts from Mitch after some midseason struggles.
  15. BA ranked the Cubs at 15.
  16. Why do you think he needs to go? A DUI does not equal substance abuse problems. I was under the assumption that this was a reoccuring problem. Either way, he needs to be reprimanded by the Cubs or allowed to take time off.
  17. Iowa is only 5 back in the playoff race for the American North, so it is conceivable they could even make the playoffs.
  18. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Ryan O'Malley (5-5, 3.97 ERA, 93 IP, 60/21, 1.32 WHIP) West Tenn: RHP Juan Mateo (6-4, 2.68 ERA, 80.2 IP, 59/22, 1.12 WHIP) vs. LHP Jason Cromer (1-1, 1.06 ERA) Daytona (game 2): LHP Donnie Veal (2-1, 1.20 ERA, 30 IP, 23/16, 1.17 WHIP) Peoria: RHP Mitch Atkins (8-3, 2.74 ERA, 98.2 IP, 85/40, 1.21 WHIP) @ RHP Kristian Bell (6-5, 4.50 ERA) Boise: RHP Mike Billek (1-1, 5.75 ERA, 20.1 IP, 10/3, 1.48 WHIP) vs. RHP Mike Schilling (2-3, 2.88 ERA) I'm not positive with Daytona due to all their rainouts.
  19. Boise with a valiant comeback attempt, but they fall short. The final is 14-10. Colvin ended up 3 for 6 and a HR shy of the cycle with 3 RBI. Lansford was 5 for 6 (all singles) and 2 RBI.
  20. Geez, Boise getting killed. It's now 12-1 in the 6th.
  21. Sounds like Mario Mercedes is pretty adept behind the plate. He's been blocking pitches in the dirt left and right from Brett Jackson.
  22. Pina just ejected from the game for his second HBP. Greg Halman, the guy who was hit (who had hit 2 HRs against Pina already), walks towards the mound with his bat in a "menacing manner" and the benches clear. No punches or anything as the coaches from both teams break things up. There had been no warnings in the game. Pina's final line: 4+ IP, 7 ER, 6 H, 0/3, 2 HBP, 3 HR
  23. Boise down 6-0 in the bottom of the 4th. Pina has been tagged for 6 ER on 6 H, 3 BBs and a HBP in 4 innings. Colvin is 1 for 2 with a double.
  24. I want the coaching staff fired and was on the fence on Speier, but come on, Speier needs to go to rehab. You can't expect the Cubs to keep a guy around who was just arrested for DUI.
