  1. Yup, you're right on CP's contract status. In fact, Corey is under Cubs control till the end of 2007. And I agree with your other post too.
  2. Ron gave a shoutout to NSBB during the DJaxx online broadcast today. Paraphrased, he said something to the extent of: "I want to say hi to the people at NorthSideBaseball.com, a great place to check out Cubs minor league information. I've been talking to some of the great people there the past one and a half days." He went on to talk about how many Cubs fans there are around the country and saying it was a great decision on WT's part to go with online broadcasts. And Ron also rules for answering any DJaxx questions I have when I e-mail him. :D
  3. Congrats, UMF. You better get another sweep...or else!
  4. I think it has something to do with steroids.
  5. Simple question. EDIT: I edited "no-hitter" to "perfect game," for Outshined_One's sake.
  6. By the way, Todd Walker went 1 for 4 today with a K and a single for Iowa. I think he's ready to be promoted.
  7. Darren Oliver. He retired. :( OK, Dave Crouthers then. #-o
  8. Darren Oliver. He retired. :(
  9. Good news for Kerry, he played catch for five minutes. It looks like it will take some time for him to get ready though, because he has to build up his arm strength. There's also a mention on Todd Walker's rehab: And Barrett:
  10. Let's see...Greg got offers from the Braves and the Yankees. Maddux then contacted Himes and offered to be a Cub for the same amount he had turned down in the summer, which was less than the Yankees had offered. Himes didn't, but I've heard before that the Trib could have been faulted for not allowing Himes. I don't see why Greg has to stay for the fans - especially when the Cubs acted like they didn't want him.
  11. Why do you keep acting like Larry Himes and the Cubs played no role in Maddux leaving?
  12. I'm just sad he's online so much and won't visit us.
  13. How is he the only one to blame for what happened in 1992?
  14. His performance might be '"below average" and yet, he's the third best starting pitcher on the team. And Truffle, you act like Larry Himes had no part to play in Maddux's departure in 1992.
  15. There are two ends to a business negotiation. Maddux is providing a service, albeit an expensive one, and the Cubs agreed to pay him to provide the service. If the Cubs don't want to pay the money then they should cut or trade him. To sit him on the bench or pull him is un-fair labor practice. A practice I might add that led to the fixing of games a long time ago. I'd argue that the Cubs made their offer to Maddux with the expectation that he'd pitch with an ERA under 4.00 the last couple of years. He hasn't provided that service, so why shouldn't they keep him on the bench and prevent him from receiving the salary of a #2 starter next year? Because no free agent will sign with the Cubs again? He's not pitching that bad this year, there aren't pitchers who can replace him and do better. The Cubs shouldn't have offered the option but they did.
  16. Time for a merge. At least he does something good for the Cubs and gets some Cardinal hitters out.
  17. Skip his starts or start pulling him after 5 innings. Maybe it would be panned by the media and considered classless, but it's better than wasting $5M of our limited resources for next season. And free agents will definitely start coming to the Cubs after such a move. Unless Greg gets hurt, the option will kick in. I'm not pleased, but it's going to happen. It wasn't wise to put that option in in the first place, but it's too late now.
  18. And how do you propose the Cubs not let Greg get to the 190+ innings he needs?
  19. I'm not sure, but I do know Sisco didn't start regularly in August with all the hurricane-outs and damage at Daytona's home ballpark, so that might have affected him when he did start.
  20. That's good news on the Kerry Wood front.
  21. Not gonna happen. LA will win the division. And if it does, the Cubs better swoop up and get Tracy. He's the second best manager in baseball.
  22. Yup, I think he's long gone. The Royals are bad and he's shown more than enough that the Royals will keep him. If he struggles, they might shut him down with a "tired arm" late in the year and then return him to the minors (maybe a stop in a winter league) to get him ready as a starter.
  23. Being a 6'10" lefty who throws 96 might have something to do with it. Being a 6'10 lefty who throws 96 got him a 4.21 ERA in High A ball. How does a 4.21 ERA in High A turn into a 1.93 ERA at the major league level one year later? No one saw this coming. I agree, I didn't see this coming at all, but he wasn't hitting 96 last year. I think he was in the 80s last year.
