  1. Away from Billy Wagner. How come CPatt? NM, don't know what I was looking at hehe, 24 mill seems high. The 3 in conjunction with the 24 is the important part. Remember Remmy. That has a nice ring to it. I think he's worth it...dude is only 34...hasn't had an ERA above 2.5 in 4 years...last three I think the average is under 2.0... Is he the only thing we need? not by a long shot....but he makes it an 8 inning game. Heck...Matt Lawton is getting 7.75 Mill... For Comparision...Rivera is getting 10.5 Mill, Izzy is 8.2, Foulke is getting 7.5, .... 8 for Wagner doesn't seem out of line at all....heck, maybe we could say we couldn't afford Neifi because of the expense. Look at Remmy's numbers the 3-4 years before we signed him. Age will catch up to Wagner too, especially since he relies on that little body to throw heat. And he's such an injury risk. If the Cubs aren't re-signing Dempster (which I'm sure they will, based on the comments about how he's such a good guy in the clubhouse and given how Hendry likes these high character guys), the only closer I want them to go after is BJ Ryan. From a cost-benefit perspective, it'd be wiser for the Cubs to re-sign Dempster.
  2. I'd like to see that but I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs called up Kelton instead....for the righty bat. It'll probably be Fontenot. Kelton isn't on the 40-man, while Fontenot is. I fully expect Macias to get all the starts, though. It would be interesting to see the Cubs do something crazy like add Matt Craig to the 40-man and promote him from West Tenn.
  3. According to minorleaguebaseball.com, this is the pitching matchup for the second game. C. Pignatiello (1-4, 3.69) vs. J. Horgan (4-3, 4.30) Where doe MiLB.com state pitching matchups?
  4. Iowa might be playing a doubleheader today (I'm guessing it's hurricane related from earlier in the year):
  5. Are you saying you wouldn't trade him if you could get a more productive player that plays another position in return? I'm for any trade that will improve the team. If it improves the team, though I have to question giving up one of the better offensive bats in the lineup for improved defense, when the offense is one of the biggest problems. He's not untouchable, but he really isn't as big of a problem on this team as, say, SS and all three OFs.
  6. It's between Sing and Patterson for me, and I lean towards Brandon (especially since he's so close to breaking so many team records).
  7. So would Guz get moved up to say Daytona or West Tenn with another positive performance tonight? Does he have any chance of pitching with the big club after Sept. 1? More than likely, he'll go to Daytona, as some Chicago newspapers have indicated. I can't see the Cubs promoting him all the way from Mesa for his major league debut.
  8. Too bad he went yesterday. :P Eh, he needs to get used to Dusty's arm grinder in the majors. :P
  9. Probable Pitching Matchups: Iowa (game 1): LHP Rich Hill (5-1, 3.95 ERA) @ LHP Matt White (8-5, 3.23 ERA) Iowa (game 2): LHP Carmen Pignatiello (1-4, 3.69 ERA) @ J. Horgan (4-3, 4.30 ERA) West Tenn: RHP Carlos Marmol (3-4, 3.52 ERA) Daytona: LHP Yorkin Ferreras (3-3, 5.13 ERA) @ RHP Tim Worthington (3-2, 2.97 ERA) Peoria: RHP Matt Weber (6-9, 3.98 ERA) vs. RHP Dallas Trahern (7-10, 3.39 ERA) Boise: LHP Darin Downs (4-4, 3.70 ERA) Mesa: RHP Angel Guzman (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 8 IP, 12 K, 1 BB)
  10. Jaxx win 3-1, Nolasco ties the Jaxx all-time record for wins (12). Blast from the past: Nolasco tied Brian McNichol for that record.
  11. Brandon Sing remains one shy of the tying the all-time Jaxx record for walks and one shy of breaking the all-time Jaxx record for home runs (he struck out on a full count).
  12. Nolasco Ks the Brave hitter for a 4th time today to get out of the 8th. Ricky has 11 Ks overall and has thrown 113 pitches, he should be done. 3-1, Jaxx lead it going to the top of the 9th.
  13. Also of importance Die Hard hit his 30th home run. Die Hard? Scott McClain. Nolasco almost served a game-tying HR, it turned into a deep flyout to the track. Two outs in the 8th, Jaxx still up 3-1.
  14. Montanez with an RBI double to make it 3-1!
  15. Brandon Sing hit one off the end of the bat, flies out. With two outs, Buck Coats gets an RBI double down the LF line (on a full count) to break the 1-1 tie. According to Ron, Brandon has a chance to set records in OPS, SLG, BBs and HRs this season (I'm guessing these are all-time Jaxx records).
  16. 1-1 in the top of the 7th for the Jaxx. Matt Craig is at second with 1 out.
  17. "Harve Bomb" sounds better, Serena! :D
  18. Peoria could conceivably start next season with 4 starting LHPs - Darin Downs, Mark Pawelek, Donald Veal, and Jesus Yepez.
  19. i'm very upset that farns was traded. i think a lot of fans buy into the 'he was bad for team chemistry' line and are glad that he's gone....as evidenced by the boos he got when he came in. oh good, the continuing effort to have wood's arm fall off will continue. Dusty took care of Prior's arm earlier in the game. If only this game could go to extras so Dusty could take care of Z's arm too.
  20. Because Dusty doesn't think Glendon is pitching bad? Dusty did skip a Jerome Williams start earlier this year.
  21. Novoa couldn't have had that 1-2-3 inning in the 7th, of course.
  22. Veal also had 2 WPs and a Balk. Any thoughts on where he'll start next season? And Pawelek! with 2 WPs and a HBP. I expect both to start the season in Peoria. Good to see another good start out of Donald (or Donnie) up in Boise, despite the control.
  23. Well he was at 122 when the at-bat started. The time to complain was then, not after the count was 2-2 and there were 5 foul balls. He shoulda been taken out before the Giles AB. I didn't see anything before the Furcal AB, but he was taxed there too.
  24. Good thing everyone but Dusty could see the altering of mechanics as Prior topped 120. Ugh.
