  1. He had a compression fracture in his pitching elbow. Maybe that had an impact on his pitching. He's certainly not pitching as well as he has in the past (2003). He's also still usually able to make adjustments within a game, but the first inning of games has just killed him recently. I'm willing to consider causes. Whether he gets a pass from you for any reason is obviously up to you. Yeah, now you're just making excuses. If he's not healthy enough to pitch, then he shouldn't pitch. It's been plenty of time since that injury. If he's not over it by now, he never will be. I consider causes too. Want to know what 'causes' Mark to give up runs? Lack of pitch variety. All the rationalization in the world can't manufacture a third pitch out of thin air. so what was his third pitch in 2003??? It was a great pitch. One that is incredibly difficult to hit. They call it the "league-hasn't-adjusted-to-you-yet" ball. Nasty, nasty stuff. I thought he threw a change up before, but maybe I am mistaking. He does. Obviously nowhere near as regularly as his slurve/offspeed pitch; I don't know if he still doesn't trust it like he did back in 2003.

And he somehow got that "league-hasn't-adjusted-to-you-yet" pitch down the stretch last year and prior to the line drive this year. Amazing.
  3. I'm not sure regret is the right word.
  4. I wouldn't if I were you. I thought Eckstein turned his ankle there, thankfully for you guys he just slipped. Sadly the Cubs only chance at coming back was the weather conditions.

  7. If I was a Cards fan, I'd want a delay immediately. This is highly unsafe.
  8. Molina was Blancowned by that foul ball.
  9. Too bad Macias isn't batting - I think he'd just float away to Lake Michigan. Neifi's a little too big to get beaten down by this deluge.
  10. I wish it would rain that hard in Cali in the summer. Scratch that, I wish it would rain in Cali in the summer.
  11. Matt Morris?
  12. Derrek saving the Cubs from a shutout. Thanks, WGN for coming back in time.
  13. The scorer helped that HR leave the park too.
  14. I believe it's the career high in IP and the number of pitches in those innings all at such a young age that has caused him problems since 2003. But Prior was as dominant down the stretch in 2004 as in 2003. He was also considerably better before the line drive hit him. It hasn't been all downhill since 2003.
  15. Royals win again, 7-5 (despite Andy Sisco's attempts to blow the lead - this was my first time watching Sisco pitch). Cleveland has the day off, so the Sox lead is trimmed to 4.5 games.
  16. 2004 Williams Carpenter Morris Suppan Marquis Haren Reyes, Al Flores 2005 Carpenter Mulder Morris Marquis Suppan Reyes, Anthony Eldred Thanks, so, that's 15 starters the Cards have used over the last two years, this year alone, the Cubs have used at least 10 starters. Let's see: Wood Prior Zambrano Maddux Williams Rusch Dempster Hill Koronka Who am I missing? Mitre Leicester.
  17. I think that's overpaying just a tad. I'd do that for Quentin and Valverde!
  18. They only ranked the top 25: 1. OF Delmon Young, Devil Rays 2. RHP Felix Hernandez, Mariners 3. 3B Ian Stewart, Rockies 4. OF Jeremy Hermida, Marlins 5. SS Stephen Drew, Diamondbacks 6. SS Joel Guzman, Dodgers 7. RHP Chad Billingsley, Dodgers 8. RHP Justin Verlander, Tigers 9. 1B Prince Fielder, Brewers 10. SS Hanley Ramirez, Red Sox 11. SS Brandon Wood, Angels 12. 3B Andy LaRoche, Dodgers 13. RHP Matt Cain, Giants 14. 1B Daric Barton, A's 15. OF Lastings Milledge, Mets 16. RHP Adam Miller, Indians 17. OF Felix Pie, Cubs 18. LHP Francisco Liriano, Twins - no way he's this low at the end of the season 19. OF Carlos Quentin, Diamondbacks 20. 1B Conor Jackson, Diamondbacks 21. 3B/OF Billy Butler, Royals 22. RHP Joel Zumaya, Tigers 23. 1B/OF Kendry Morales, Angels 24. OF Nick Markakis, Orioles 25. LHP Cole Hamels, Phillies
  19. I think the Cubs would have to offer much more than just Jerome Williams. If the Cubs are going to trade Todd Walker (I'm opposed to that, but it looks like that's what they want to do), why don't they send him to Arizona in a Quentin trade?
  20. I would like to see Adam Greenberg on the roster as the 5th OF. I'm all over the Saenz and Sweeney bandwagons, but both of them got extended playing time. I'd bet they have increased their value beyond normal bench player status, so I'm not sure the Cubs will sign either of them (hopefully Neifi has too and the Cubs won't re-sign him :D).
  21. Donnelly has lost some velocity and hasn't been as good this year, I'd be more interested in Shields.
  22. Iowa fans, is Tate definitely playing this Saturday?
