  1. I think it was Raisin and Raw who took me to task on Mitre much earlier in the season. They made good points. I've just never seen enough to get excited. Of course, I also carried the Bobby Brownlie banner until he gutted me with its flag pole. Heh, I think it was both of us. Mitre is what he his. At his best, he's a 4-5 starter, he's obviously ineffective when his sinker isn't working. I also think it's ridiculously stupid to use a pitcher like Mitre out of the pen, that's just asking him to fail. I completely agree with Rocket, especially with guys like Rich Hill coming up a bit later. Sergio's trade value was never higher. I think the Cubs will be trading him or Wellemeyer this offseason since they both have to make the 25-man next April or risk being lost.
  2. Do you guys think it's a good move when the Rays don't call either up next year? Now that's stupid (or "unconscionable" as Jim Callis said):
  3. But they noted Jacksonville going back to Billingsley, their game 1 starter in the last series. I guess the Jaxx are as confident in Ryu as Pinto. I don't like the decision, seeing as Pinto had a much better season.
  4. Granted only the Padres are currently above .500, but still...go us! :D
  5. BA named Delmon Young the Minor League POY. Brandon Wood was robbed. :( BA had a chat in relation to that, and there was one very interesting Cubs-related question:
  6. RHP Jae-kuk Ryu (11-8, 3.34 ERA) vs. RHP Chad Billingsley (13-6, 3.51 ERA) Billingsley threw 7 no-hit innings in his last playoff start (a combined no-hitter with Jonathan Broxton against Birmingham). Billingsley throws a 94-97 mph FB, a hard curve, a plus slider and an average changeup; he's the Dodgers top pitching prospect.
  7. Seeing AA sometimes next season is one thing, starting the year there is another. I'm with UK, I'd like to see him have a little success at Daytona first.
  8. Would it be a problem to sign Nomar for SS, go with Perez at 2nd and hopefull hit him in the 8th hole? Maybe 7th on days Blanco gets the node? Thoughts? Yeah, it would. Walker and Cedeno would be better offensive options than Neifi. And they are both under contract (option for Walker) for next season (and at a good bargain). And with Dusty around, I don't see Neifi batting 8th.
  9. Not happy about UCLA being favored? Not confident...
  10. He doesn't suck, and quite a few managers would probably give Neifi the nod over Cedeno. A lot of manager's just don't give up on reaching the playoffs. They're managing for another contract. Face it. Neifi's a middle of the pack hitter for SS, and has one of the best gloves amongst shortstops. I just don't get why defense means so little to some. You know, Ronny isn't chopped liver when it comes to defense.
  11. If Fontenot and Theriot are on the 40-man through the offseason, I can't see Jose Macias being re-signed. Of course neither Fontenot or Theriot play the OF like Macias, so I'm probably just being crazy.
  12. I thought Riot had been playing SS regularly since Eric came over. I know Ryan has played SS in all of the playoff games. It's Sisk who has lost time, although he played in Game 3. Theriot missed a couple of games in the regular season-ending series, didn't he? You're right, he has played in all 3 playoff games.
  13. Great utility player. I sort of can see why he got called up since his playing time has drastically been reduced after Eric Patterson's promotion, but don't see why Fontenot was passed.
  14. I agree that he has come up with some timely hits. Unfortunately, with a better hitter at the top, DLee's RBIs increase, putting us in fewer critical late game situations. What the hell does that mean? someone who gets on base hitting at the top of the order means we score more runs so we aren't tied 2-2 in the 8th So hits in the late innings like Perez just got don't mean anything? One has nothing to do with the other. It sounds like people will say anything rather than give Perez credit for anything. Neifi has a .310 OBP (which at times was below .300 earlier this season). He's been bad. Not as bad as Corey, but Neifi hasn't gotten on base. Being placed in the 2-hole for much of the season has hampered the offense. I agree that Neifi should not be hitting in the 2 hole @ anytime. However, he has been much better this year than I would ever have expected. Some people here won't acknowledge the good things Neifi has done for this team b/c of the unexcusable hate they have for him. He has been a far better asset for this team than has Corey & it's not even close. Outside of that bolded sentence, I don't think anyone disagrees with you.
  15. I agree that he has come up with some timely hits. Unfortunately, with a better hitter at the top, DLee's RBIs increase, putting us in fewer critical late game situations. What the hell does that mean? Sorry, that wasn't very clear. A better OPS in the #2 hole = more runs = 4-2 lead instead of 2-2 tie = we don't need a big hit by Neifi late in the game to win. OBP. I did mean OPS. Some extra base hits instead of slap singles wouldn't hurt. True, but you gotta make sure the OBP is strong and the OPS is not just reliant on a high SLG if this batter is batting 2nd. :-) I absolutely agree. I was just trying to make a point about Neifi's lack of production, which is noticable by looking at ANY stat. Haha, cool.
  16. Walker bunting? The odds were high that if Todd was gonna get out if he swang away, it would have been a grounder to the right side of the IF. WTG, Dusty.

  19. No. Two outs, 1-1 count to Niekro, Ellison at third.

  21. I wouldn't mind seeing the Cubs sign Scott Eyre as a free agent this offseason.
  22. Nice player? No. Wow, Burnitz absolutely murdered that foul ball.
