Mike Safford read off my e-mail just now on the air, but didn't answer my question on how hard Taylor was throwing. :( Ortiz gets a 1-2-3 top of the 7th, Boise is tied at 1 at the 7th inning stretch. Boise goes down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 7th. To the 8th we go. Ortiz works around a 2-out IF single in the top of the 8th to keep Spokane scoreless. To the bottom of the 8th we go, tied at 1.
Jose Ortiz is struggling: Leadoff single. Walk. Strikeout looking. Walk. The red-hot Taylor Teagarden is now up, bases loaded. :( Teagarden DRIVES one, but Gregg tracks it down at the wall. What looked like a grand slam is just a sac fly, the game is tied. Thon strikes out. Game tied at 1 in the middle of the 6th.
Brandon Taylor walks but is caught stealing a bit later. After 5, Boise leads 1-0. Jose Ortiz is coming in and 18-year old Scott Taylor's evening is over. The pitching line for the 2005 5th rounder: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 5 K, 0 BB.
Thon hits a leadoff double in the 5th inning. Mayberry, Jr. grounds out 6-3. Thon holds. Herren strikes out swinging. Hooft grounds out 5-3 on an impressive spin play by 3B Brandon Taylor. Jose Ortiz warming up in the pen. Scott Taylor: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 5 K, 0 BB
Not yet. The Boise broadcasts are awesome - they talk about EVERYTHING. They were talking about who the next Chief Justice would be, Boise State football, the Cubs minor league report, etc.
Bottom of the 3rd: Jose Rios with a leadoff single. Jake Muyco grounds into a FC, 3-unassisted. Rios advances to second. Davey Gregg flies out to left. Jonathan Mota grounds out. After 3, Boise leads 1-0.
Scott Talor works another scoreless inning, giving up a leadoff hit but getting him out on a caught stealing, 2-6. Taylor: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 K, 0 BB Boise still leads the must-win game 1-0, midway through 3.
Yeah, but those numbers at AA are right up there with everybody else on the same list. Doesn't that qualify as a rebound from a bad start? Indeed, it's a strong rebound. But there are pitchers who had better stats for the full season, because they did better in April (Ryu, for example). Plus hes repeating the level Well, here we're just considering 2005 stats, so repetition of the level would not be considered. In a real prospect ranking, that should definitely be considered.
Taylor gets another 1-2-3 inning, including 2 Ks. One of them was on another 2005 draft pick, John Mayberry, Jr., who struck out swinging on a changeup. Scott Taylor: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K, 0 BB Boise leads 1-0 midway through 2.
Boise's bottom of the first: Davey Gregg reaches on an E-3 (throwing, to the pitcher who was covering first). Gregg steals second. Jonathan Mota singles to LF, Gregg holds at third. Chris Gaskin GIDPs, 6-4-3. Gregg scores, Boise leads 1-0. Johnny Defendis strikes out looking. Boise leads 1-0 after 1.
