  1. Woohoo! So do the Jaxx host the winner of Jacksonville/Birmingham?
  2. Isn't there a better than average chance that he'll get fired? I thought I read that in the Lou Piniella threads that both he and LaMar were gone at the end of the season. Might be wishful thinking. Given that the D-Rays plan on keeping Upton and Young down in AAA to start next season as not to start their option clocks, I wouldn't be surprised if their management decides to keep LaMar. They're a penny-pinching organization and everyone knows it. I wouldn't be surprised if LaMar's demands for Huff & Baez were applauded by the front office... And heck, replacing him could be dangerous for other teams in baseball looking to acquire various players from the D-Rays. They could end up with some one even worse than LaMar, who could ask for Prior AND Zambrano in exchange for Huff and Baez. Or, worse, they might actually find some one competent and shrewd enough to rip other teams off without them knowing it until a few years down the line. Actually, there's a good chance LaMar might be gone based on something I read in BA, as long as there are changes in upper management this coming offseason. Keeping Upton and Young down would be a decision that the whole organization seems to like. Link to the BA comments: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/columnists/askba05aug.html
  3. Not too shabby a game for Brandon.
  4. Sounds like Brandon just absolutely murdered that one!
  5. The thing is, Kerry Wood's contract was fair at the time, coming off his 2002-2003 seasons. Greg Maddux, on the other hand, was definitely being overpaid on this contract given his decline. Both are overpaid, obviously Kerry more so since he has pitched so little the last few years.
  6. Matt Cain, a 2002 first round pick, is the Giants top prospect (and a top 20 prospect in baseball). He throws a 92-95 mph fastball, a plus curve and a straight change. His biggest problem at AAA was his control.
  7. Correct, along with Jason Ryan.
  8. Yes, he can, but his ceiling is an MLB utility player. His OBP has been pretty good in the minors and he has good plate discipline. And apparently, I agree with Outshined on this topic. Trading/releasing a young player like Corey doesn't necessarily improve this team, especially considering the alternatives in CF.
  9. Hooray for the early start time, by the way.
  10. The only closer I consider in FA is BJ Ryan. I think Wagner is getting too old and will be an injury-concern, I'd rather re-sign Dempster than get Wagner. If the Cubs sign BJ Ryan, I look to re-sign Dempster as a set-up man.
  11. Anyone else catch the fan with whipped cream as he was about to consume his Ghirardeli hot chocolate/coffee? My mom paused the TiVo just to laugh at him.
  12. I think Z needs to pitch the 8th. I'm sure he wants the win. 125 pitches isn't that much.
  13. Zambrano games, and some Prior games. Maybe if Hill or Mitre got to start :( I'd add Maddux, but I guess I'm in the minority here wanting to see him try to claw his way to 15 again. Somehow I'm guessing that if Clement were here instead, Hill and Mitre would still be back-seated. Would a completely ineffective and possibly injured Clement not be back-seated for a rookie (unlike last season, when he was back-seated for a veteran, Rusch)? Of course most of the Maddux complaints are moot now that his option has vested.
  14. Sigh, Cedeño and Murton were one of the few reasons I still watched the Cubs. The Cubs won't be as interesting with those two on the bench. :(
  15. Nice play by Nomar. Jerry made that play the previous inning, he shoulda gotten it or not dived for it.
  16. She's a pretty good softball player, too. Hairston always makes it interesting out there .... he's been able to make most of those catches, though. To be fair, his jump wasn't really late. He just isn't as fast and graceful as, say, Corey Patterson. For Patterson, it would have been an over-the-shoulder grab. He does take more interesting routes than Corey or some other regular CFs. But that's not a shocker, he hasn't been playing in the OF for long. He does have the speed to recover from some bad routes.
  17. Pawelek's cool and wears high socks.
  18. Gah, he was safe! And judging by Dusty shaking his head, Ronny is going to say hello to the bench for the next few games after that play.
