  2. I really wouldn't classify a guy who is jobless as the first openly gay player, but its signifanct nonetheless and an important step. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. My only problem with the linebacker selections is they are linebackers. Those guys just aren't that vital in the pass happy world we live in. But the selections were pretty good and both guys should be able to contribute. The emphasis on guards and linebackers in the upper half is a little disappointing, giving the hierarchy of impact on either side of the ball. They had to restock the offensive line though, and hopefully they don't turn Angelo and ignore the line for the next 8 drafts. The line should at least be stable. Although I think people are being far too optimistic when it comes to talking about Long in 2013. The guy has barely played the position at all, and outside of franchise tackles, linemen typically do not start as rookies. He has a hell of a lot to learn and not much time to do it. It's not like he's some receiver you can throw in for half a dozen plays to see what he can do, he's either playing every down or sitting. I have to think he'll be sitting for a while. Emery loves himself some measurables, which is fine in football but also can lead to significant underperformance. I would prefer a little more emphasis on players who make their mark on tape during the season rather than in shorts when the season is long past. Lovie's emphasis on lighter fast guys led to quality special teams play and an opportunistic bend but don't break style of defense. But it also probably played a role in an offense that could not do things like short yardage runs. Emery's desire for bigger physical freaks is probably meant for a defense that does more taking it to the opposition and maybe an offense that can score from the 1. Anywho, I think I like the 6th and 7th round selections best of all, as guys with the best chance to make special plays, albeit in limited roles. Trestman is more of a spread the love kind of coach than a hardass, so he might be able to get more out of Wilson, and hopefully keeps Marshall in-line as well. But I don't know if the Bears are going to want to extend Marshall and keep him past 2014, so next draft the needs are probably going to be more on the skill position needs than this one. Obviously Long has very limited game tape. Its not underperformed, so much as lack of any evidence. He's the guy with lack of credit as opposed to bad credit. Washington is definitely an under- performer. All the other guys, going back to last year as well I don't think I'd classify as underperformers. They all seem to have game tape to go with the measurables (at least relative to the round they are picked in, save Long, who again though isn't really an underperformer as much as a total mystery) I was worried about Emery's talk of measurables early on, but after two drafts, he seems to have a reasonable balance and hopefully won't go after combine performers like Stephen Hill last year or Zavier Gooden this year; guys who's main accomplishments are running in a straight line for 40 yards and meeting some type if height/weight threshold. The 40 thing is a big one too IMO. Fans and Al Davis get wrapped up in that one measure, but all-encompassing athleticism is much more important when ysing measurables. I still hope he is thorough enough to not totally exclude guys who lack the combine numbers, but can investigate where the tape and measurables don't match up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I was under the impression that Stewart was a FA after this year(making that a really easy decision), but BR says that he still has another arbitration year. Even with that though, the best we can hope for Stewart is that he plays really well now that he's healthy and we get 1 year of production from him next year before free agency. Given his struggles last year, his lack of hitting in Iowa, and the outright disdain the organization(especially Sveum) seems to have for him, I don't think Valbuena is at risk for losing much playing time if Stewart takes Ransom's roster spot. Even if hes arb elligible, he'll cost a few million. Even if you can bring him in at a million, thats money better spent elsewhere (unless he dramatically proves otherwise in the remainder of the season). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I'm praying the plan is to have Slauson learn to center and cut Garza if Carimi and Long both prove capable as G. I know its not really realistic, but would make me feel so much better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. What the hell? Those were probably written pre-draft. And Urlacher was 6-4, 260 coming out, and ran as fast as some DBs/WRs. The height weight is a good point. It's one thing to run like a RB, but another thing when you're the size of a TE. Urlacher could always cheat a little bit more covering the middle because you couldn't sneak passes over him as easily. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Its blatantly obvious IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Thats just nonsense. I was not happy with the pick, but that in no way means he's trying to outsmart people. What a baseless claim. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. By the way, regarding Slauson he has snapped in a game three times from what I read (as in 3 total snaps). I'm totally up for doing that and kicking Garza to the curb if he can pick it up though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Eh, I'm not too worried about age. Football careers are short anyways. In fact in the instance of Long it is offset a bit by the fact his body has taken less of a toll to this point (which is also offset by inexperience) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Any chance Slauson can learn center and be effective? That would make me feel better. Anyways, I'm not sure Carimi makes the roster now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Travis Frederick. Cowboys fans pain is making me feel better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Could just get Kiper I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. He can play DE in a 3 front can't he? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I'm not worried the Bears reached to get an OL, I think they legitimately thought he was BPA available, which is crazy. Of course I'm no fan of consensus thought, but I'm highly skeptical here. He better win a starting jpb from day one. I was willing to give McClellin more than a year to judge thd pick, but not this one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. He would have been a decent second round pick this is [expletive] absurd Whhhyyyy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. Roses is basically using up the majority of his goodwill that he gained over his first 4 years with the Bulls. He was accessible, said all the right things, won an MVP, led the team to the best record in the NBA 2 years in a row, etc. People are frustrated, but the media is going to treat him better than Cutler, who is known to be aloof. I gotta tell ya, I'm chuckling over everyone losing their minds on this. When he comes back, and is his usual self, especially if he has an improved jumper, none of that is going to matter. Everybody's gonna be all giddy that he's back, and move along happily watching him, buying his jerseys, and forgetting that this year even happened. I don't know about forget. Things will be more or less back to normal, but a lot of fans (especially the meatballs, and on this subject I admit to having some meatbally tendencies) aren't going to just fail to remember that he basically punted a season. Unless/until, of course, he leads a team to a championship, which as we've seen over and over again is the cure-all for any athlete, especially an NBA player. LOL @ DRose leading a team to a championship If LeBron James isn't a thing, he already has one most likely. WTF does that mean? If Michael Jordan isn't a thing, about a dozen additional stars in the 90s have rings. Means nothing. There's always going to be a dominating star for an era. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Plus theres the fact that extra time off really isn't going to help heal his knee. The surgery was either successful and he'll be back stronger than ever like AP or it wasn't as successful and he'll have lost something forever. But physically there is no more healing left to do. The actual ligament has been fine since sometime in late 2012 (not suggesting you can come back that soon obviously as rehabbing is a huge chunk of the recovery process, but all signs point to Derrick's rehab having gone excellent). Maybe it wasn't successful and Derrick has lost an element he will never get back. And perhaps thats his issue, he thinks he can get back to that point, although actually getting on the court is the only way to get there, if at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  23. Go to the bathroom for an occasional "poop." Problem solved. Its funny how easy it is to get diarrhea the night of tge draft. Shouldn't have gotten Taco Bell for lunch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Yea it basically just takes extreme discipline to only draft BPA. I did a draft that I copy and pasted the top 20 every time I could, just so I could track who had been there the longest. Still topped out at 4200. Was good for the highest score in that draft. Not sure how those 5000 scores are possible, other than maybe cumplulsive playing until you hit the extreme end of the luck bell curve. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
