    You can also be an inconsistent QB and put together a good 4 game stretch (ie- the last two SN winning QBs).

    Hells yeah. and please don't take into account the theory of addressing the organizational catching depth in the decision making process. Agreed. If you need organizational depth at a position you have plenty of crapshoot rounds which to address it. Especially with a position like catcher, you can probably accept you'll just fill in with whatever FA defensive minded catcher who's the least offensive 8 hitter you can find.

    Does he stay at catcher though? Or do you Harper him to OF to get him to the bigs sooner/extend his career? I realize he isn't the prospect Harper was, but it's possible (for whichever team picks him)

    Gotta say, as things stand now the top three teams are all good candidates to want to under slot. We could have an opportunity at a player who is much better than our draft slot.

    This I can actually somewhat agree with. So handedness would mostly be a concern for a guy switching sides with little to no experience on the other side. A guy who's already established on one side? It would be worse to move him even if his handedness says he would have an easier time on the other side. It's all about reps and teaching your body. Anyone who's been board enough to try writing with your opposite hand or throwing a ball knows you can make some pretty significant ambidextrous gains with pretty minimal effort. And a kick step takes way less precision than writing or throwing. So if you had a training camp and 4 preseason games to teach your body, that should allow you to switch sides so long as you have the athleticism and skill set required. Long is basically already a fresh slate who has to learn everything new, with the athleticism to pick up things more quickly.

    CSN is 2019. Probably our best hope for 2014 is making WGN pay more for what they currently get on a 5 year agreement so that in 2019 we have all our games on the table to negotiate a new deal.

    But seriously OL handedness reminds me of QB height and DE 40 times but even more superficial. Like sure there are the extremes like a 5'5" QB or an OL without hands, but are they worth considering?

    all things being equal then, you're going to want a lefty at LT. I wouldn't say it's dumb at all. Hub talking about it like Long's playing out of position because he and SLauson aren't flip-flopped is dumb. Completely ignoring this whole handedness thing, the Bears (Kromer, mostly) believe in having a strong interior above all other things. So you're going to want to keep a barbarian like Long (Khal Long anyone?) where he can do the most damage. In the north, you have some pretty talented and monstrous DTs. All things being equal, I really don't see how it matters. But even if all things were equal (which they aren't) I struggle to care about things that have zero impact on player evaluations.

    What position does he think Long should be playing? He thinks he's on the wrong side because he's left handed and on the right side. I kind of agree, but handedness is less important for a guard. And he's not playing LT while Bushrod (by cracky) is here. Handedness does not matter for any lineman. That's truly absurd. As a lineman on either side you have be balanced and your down hand does little in the way of weight distribution. i don't know, the prevailing wisdom is that being a lefty gives you an advantage on the left edge. I mean there probably is some advantage, but it's so minimal. I think as a LT having your strong arm on the outside helps a little with funneling guys inside so that they can't get outside your shoulder as easily. But in the grand scheme of things your feet, legs, and brain are doing like 98% of the work and from a strength perspective your non-dominant hand shouldn't be that much weaker that you can't get become pretty ambidextrous blocking-wise with repetition. I have no idea on where that prevailing wisdom comes from but it sounds awfully dumb.

    So the entire difference in their numbers is pretty much the 3 HBP for Puig. Pretty big K discrepancy too.

    How awfully unathletic is this Abreu guy? Just wondering if it wouldn't make sense to leave your good defensive 1B there and let him Dunn-up left field rather than weaken two defensive positions.

    I wouldn't write Olt off as a prospect, but I would write him off being the opening day starter at 3B. And since his reps would be down as a bench player, he should start at AAA. He could work his way to the big league club early on, but see no way he starts there at this point. I don't think there's much of a 3B market at this point either so Valbuena looks like he's the man at 3B again, so it's really a race between Olt, Bryant, Baez, and to a lesser extent Villanueva as to who can knock him off first.

    I'm sure they were aware of the risk and were willing to take it, but would have much preferred trading for the entire budget allocation they needed. They've still stayed within their tradeable budget range, so if this was their strategy to blow the budget all out, they kind of half added it.

    So one of my keepers is definitely CJ Spiller ($15, can keep next year for $23). I'm thinking of also keeping Tony Gonzalez for $9. Keeping in mind that in my league, both Graham and Gronk will be kept for <$5, after which they'll hit the draft market again next year, so the TE market is thin. So keeping Tony at $9 seems like a good bet, right? $200 draft pool.

    I just want the Cubs to have good peripherals, but be unlucky the rest if the way. Like if our starters deal every game and our set up men get hold and the Gregg wants to blow some saves and pick up the L I won't be mad. No, I won't track it daily, not this far out at least, but with 1 to 2 weeks left I'll look a little closer if its gonna be close on the over/under 10th spot. Not that keeping verse losing the pick would necessarily change my mind anyways in regards to a FA, but it'd be nice for it not to be a factor at all.

    I'd say two FA RP would do the trick, although I'm counting Villanueva as in the rotation, and signing one SP. though you could sign 2SP to put Villanueva as a swing guy again. Either way, probably 3 FA pitchers.

    I remember about a year ago there being reports from unnamed scouts that 2B would be the better position for Castro and that Baez could handle SS, for whatever that's worth. But I think Baez would have to really force the issue to bump Castro off SS, or for Castro to have a sustained DL stay. And with Castro at SS, I'd think Baez at 3B would be better than 2B with his arm. But if you needed a 2B and Bryant can handle 3B, you put Baez at 2B.

    I don't think any of the other candidates (Dejesus, Nate, Russell) are likely to pass through waivers. It's possible they get claimed and the Cubs work out a trade though I guess. Doesn't Gregg cost the minimum? That would make him an easy waiver acquisition for any team that desperate for a bullpen arm, which means he wouldn't pass through either. I kind of feel like the Cubs will just keep him since they won't get anything for him and they are sick of their bullpen being so unstable. He doesn't have to make it all the way through though. Try and get a trade with whoever claims him
