    So the entire difference in their numbers is pretty much the 3 HBP for Puig. Pretty big K discrepancy too.

    How awfully unathletic is this Abreu guy? Just wondering if it wouldn't make sense to leave your good defensive 1B there and let him Dunn-up left field rather than weaken two defensive positions.

    I wouldn't write Olt off as a prospect, but I would write him off being the opening day starter at 3B. And since his reps would be down as a bench player, he should start at AAA. He could work his way to the big league club early on, but see no way he starts there at this point. I don't think there's much of a 3B market at this point either so Valbuena looks like he's the man at 3B again, so it's really a race between Olt, Bryant, Baez, and to a lesser extent Villanueva as to who can knock him off first.

    I'm sure they were aware of the risk and were willing to take it, but would have much preferred trading for the entire budget allocation they needed. They've still stayed within their tradeable budget range, so if this was their strategy to blow the budget all out, they kind of half added it.

    So one of my keepers is definitely CJ Spiller ($15, can keep next year for $23). I'm thinking of also keeping Tony Gonzalez for $9. Keeping in mind that in my league, both Graham and Gronk will be kept for <$5, after which they'll hit the draft market again next year, so the TE market is thin. So keeping Tony at $9 seems like a good bet, right? $200 draft pool.

    I just want the Cubs to have good peripherals, but be unlucky the rest if the way. Like if our starters deal every game and our set up men get hold and the Gregg wants to blow some saves and pick up the L I won't be mad. No, I won't track it daily, not this far out at least, but with 1 to 2 weeks left I'll look a little closer if its gonna be close on the over/under 10th spot. Not that keeping verse losing the pick would necessarily change my mind anyways in regards to a FA, but it'd be nice for it not to be a factor at all.

    But the other 45% would probably be homers. Win.

    I'd say two FA RP would do the trick, although I'm counting Villanueva as in the rotation, and signing one SP. though you could sign 2SP to put Villanueva as a swing guy again. Either way, probably 3 FA pitchers.

    I remember about a year ago there being reports from unnamed scouts that 2B would be the better position for Castro and that Baez could handle SS, for whatever that's worth. But I think Baez would have to really force the issue to bump Castro off SS, or for Castro to have a sustained DL stay. And with Castro at SS, I'd think Baez at 3B would be better than 2B with his arm. But if you needed a 2B and Bryant can handle 3B, you put Baez at 2B.

    I don't think any of the other candidates (Dejesus, Nate, Russell) are likely to pass through waivers. It's possible they get claimed and the Cubs work out a trade though I guess. Doesn't Gregg cost the minimum? That would make him an easy waiver acquisition for any team that desperate for a bullpen arm, which means he wouldn't pass through either. I kind of feel like the Cubs will just keep him since they won't get anything for him and they are sick of their bullpen being so unstable. He doesn't have to make it all the way through though. Try and get a trade with whoever claims him

    I mean, I think DJ Williams is a nice piece, but I won't hate it if Bostic gets a chance right away. Though best case is DJ is okay and Bostic gets a chance to beat out James Anderson.

    Still think that story is nonsense. His agent would have to be one of the worst ever. Well they did have a big dispute, which was after the contract, so maybe that explains part of it, though I do find it highly unlikely. It's possible though. It's probably far more likely both teams were in back and forth and the agent asked for a final offer from each. Cubs knew there was possibly a 4 year offer, but would only go 6 or 4+ arb. So it could be true they took the A's offer before showing it to the Cubs, but that the Cubs would have been well aware of the market based on previous negotiations and put in what they felt was their highest offer, which didn't budge on team control. He isn't the worst agent ever if he played the market and negotiated a bit, but then forced blind final offers to try and drive up the offers. It would be just a negotiating tactic. Looking at his contract he is basically like a FA signing a 4 year deal. Other than Jackson and a couple other pitchers they've been involved in, it seems the Cubs are either targeting 1-2 year contracts, or contracts with long term control for young players. Cespedes contract doesn't fit the philosophy that's been laid out. If there are any other FA OF that signed 4 year deals and are producing, we should really equally lament those missed opportunities, as that's more where Cespedes fits as far as opportunities go.

    Interesting, Washington, their 6th rounder listed as SLB. Thought he'd be DE. Dept at DT looks weak. A better nickel would be nice too. Doing a quick count, I picked 56 guys to keep. That includes every draft pick, a non-WR Devin Hester and 4 TE/FB, when we can probably do 3. So I don't see a huge roster crunch or anything, and they definitely can bump guys off that list of 56, not to mention "red shirts" for a young guy or two.

    I can actually understand the multi-year thing. But when it comes down to it, if he's just fielding minimum offers we can sweeten it by 20%. If we can do that to win over other minimum offers, we should. Its hard to imagine he isn't getting more interest with other bench type players signing, so I think its fair to assume he is asking for more than 2 years at this point. Based on other bench players, two years seems to be the going length, and I suspect you'll see a bigger focus on years versus salary in the new CBA. He would be a great 20 minute SG for us though.

    If his criticism extended past the coaches and management it's too far IMO. Once it gets to players, it's effectively mutiny. I suspect it was getting to the players in this instance. Maybe that's a bad assumptions on my part, but I just don't see them making this move otherwise. Derrick Rose already has his advisors in his ear spouting off [expletive] about management and you're comfortable with the fact the coaches may be spouting the same stuff? Might as well ship him off before he asks to be traded and kills value. A coach letting it get to the player level is undermining his own job. Adams just isn't that important. Really nothing to sweat over, IMO because managements results speak for themselves. No player is gonna remember Adams firing when the Bulls are a top 2 team in the East again and in the ECF.

    If its true that Adams was openly questioning managements moves, the move had to be made and I'm not sure even Thibs could dispute that. I'm totally okay with it. The following people openly criticize management: - Fans - Media - Coaches and players on crappy teams - Coaches or players looking to force a move The only one Adams could possibly qualify is 4. Not sure why he wants out, but happy to oblige. Ron Adams job was a defensive specialist, a position frankly not that important with Thibs as head coach.

    When the Heat won a shortened season championship, I was pretty sure shortened seasons didn't count, but I'm okay backtracking now.
