  1. Sometimes, the truth hurts.
  2. He could easily solve that by batting Theriot 8th.
  3. Are you joking? Actually, yes, he is.
  4. Meh. Andre Dawson? I don't even remember that guy.
  5. Here are Dusty's "back and forth years" 1968: 6 games/5 AB (19 yrs.) 1969: 3 games/7 AB (20 yrs.) 1970: 13 games/24 AB (21 yrs.) 1971: 29 games/62 AB (22 yrs.) From 1972 on, here was a regular in Atlanta. That doesn't seem that out of the ordinary to me, as he at least got a fair number of AB each time he was up. But I guess this is Dusty's justification and we should just do a one of these:  Huh? He's supposedly saying that he bounced around when he first started out. Based on the number of games that he played in when he first started out, and the number of ABs he received, it doesn't look like he was bounced around. Furthermore, compared to his treatment of young players on the Cubs who did nothing but sit on the bench, his comparison isn't accurate. From my take, he's saying that the way he was was played early in his career = his treatment of rookies now. I don't believe that's accurate. I have a flow chart if necessary. :) You think that those numbers = a fair amount of ABs?
  6. It's not like his arm will last long with Dustylol at the helm, anyway.

  8. Thought you'd like that.
  9. I agree with that but it may depend on matching up the platoon guy for Pie. I do not see the Cubs leaving him in there against lefties and I don't see Fukedome sliding from right to center because of it. Fukedome is fine with center and if Pie does prove to handle hitting at the MLB level, they may switch positions then. You are right, Pie isn't a RF or may not be comfortable there and if they put him there, it'll be another thing he has to adjust too along with trying to hit MLB pitchers. Ok...maybe this move won't work but I was looking for a way to keep Murton's bat in the lineup and getting the most production possible. I just see Hendry getting some cruddy vet to platoon with Pie and being an auto out. Who is Fukedome? Is he pals with Meddenhall?
  10. What more does Bruce have to accomplish in the minor leagues (hell, all of last year, for that matter, having torn his way through each level from A+ on up to AAA at ages 19-20) to earn a big league job? He has little to nothing to prove at the minor league level. On top of that, it's absolutely stupid to hold competitions for starting jobs in spring training for a million reasons. Teams do it. Doesn't mean it's not stupid.
  11. Might it have something to do with the fact that they're screwing with his delivery so that he doesn't get stolen on as much?
  12. we'll see what happens, but I hope Fukudome ends up being our 3rd best, and not because of a Soriano regression or injury. I'm going to homer for Fukudome all season. i know, i know, SPRING TRAINING, but i just am totally in love with what i've seen so far. I'm not in love, but I too hope that Fukudome is good enough to be better than Soriano, because Soriano just isn't that good. Eh. In my mind, Sori is a far far better bet to put up a ~.900 OPS, which is pretty damn good (though I'm not a huge fan of how he does it), than Fukudome. I do love Kosuke's approach at the plate, though.
  13. Well, he might be our 3rd best hitter. Def not 4th, but I sure wish he was 3rd by a wider margin, at least.
  14. It really sucks that our highest paid player (who just happens to be locked up longer than anybody else on the team) can be accurately referred to as a "decent enough complimentary player."
  15. I'm still pretty sure I'd rather have Marquis in the rotation than either Dempster or Lieber. That's more of an illustration of what I think of Dempster and Lieber than any confidence I have in Marquis. I guess I'll just hope they prove me wrong.
  16. Is he going to insist on batting leadoff after he's crippled, too? Just askin' I didn't realize he was insisting on batting leadoff now.
  17. Paxson commented on that the other day. He called. They wanted expirings. We didn't have expirings.
  18. Maybe they traded for Brian Roberts. I kinda of doubt that, because they don't have the prospects (or do they have any prospects at all) to pull of a Roberts trade. My guess is any trade between the WS/O's would start off with either Poreda or Broadway (or knowing the O's prolly both), prolly would have to include Richar, and maybe either Brian Anderson, Ryan Sweeney, or Jerry Owens. And knowing Williams, he prolly would offer 3/4 of those players for Roberts. My guess is...the White Sox releasing Uribe, has no direct ties to the White Sox trying to acquire Roberts. I think it is just to open up 2b for Ramirez and Richar. Yea, I was joking. I know it wasn't obvious though, so, my bad.
  19. Meh. It's a little weird for him to name another team he would like to play for, but other than that, who cares? Do many Cubs fans really give a crap about the Sox? I know a lot of Sox fans have an inferiority complex and fixate on the Cubs, but most Cubs fans I know are indifferent toward the Sox. Hell, I even rooted for them a little bit once they made the series in 05.
  20. Who are you?
  21. Already have tickets to that game, but anyway, congrats on pharmacy school!
  22. 180. Kelvim Escobar 181. Chad Cordero 182. Luke Scott 183. Ian Snell 184. Mike Napoli
  23. I'd say that it looks pretty likely, with what Lou has said, that Wood will be the closer barring any unforeseen stuff coming up between now and opening day.
