  3. I believe "once in a lifetime" was in reference to the possibility of actually building a dynasty from the ground up through your own farm system. But I could be wrong. It might just be poorly worded.

    Catchers

    Go with Napoli.
  5. All these arguments about lineup order are pretty much much ado about nothing. That said, get Theriot into the freaking bottom of the order, please.
  6. It's not nearly as funny as not conceding the first part, IMO. Although both are pretty bad.
  7. That's subscription content, Raisin. Summary?
  8. In spring training. You, yourself, just expressed that it looks like Lou is considering this for more than just spring over in the baseball discussions thread about this. Please don't let this turn into another wrigley/dextermorgan pissing match.
  9. L O L You really shouldn't make Aramis Fan look bad by putting such horrifically dumb words in his mouth.
  10. LOL at people saying Derrek Lee started out slow last year. He did not hit a lot of HR, that is for damn sure, but his start was anything BUT slow.
  11. And this is a ridiculous mischaracterization of what I wrote. Spring training matters. Getting in game shape matters. Getting your timing down, seeing pitches, stretching arms, the daily grind, all that stuff matters. The results don't matter. The results should not have any effect on decisions. It makes no difference whether Lee is hitting .500 right now or .100. I was going to post this.
  12. They probably should. They aren't going to be good for several years, wasting his best, and most cost effective years, and he's bound to be hurt by then anyway. Remember, Dusty Baker is "managing" in Cincy now. What does this have to do with anything? He was making a joke at the expense of Dusty's tendency to overuse and abuse young pitchers into injury.
  13. There's your answer. Bench Lee. Start Ward. Problem solved.
  14. On the plus side, though, 'Lix is going to achieve Pujols like superstardom this year.
  15. I'm sorry if Hendry is held accountable for the players on the field, then I just don't get it. He's not the MANAGER. Now if Hendry doesn't do everything in his power to improve the holes on this team, then yes, I would him accountable. But to hold him accountable for the players on the field, is simply wrong. What on earth are you talking about? You're right. General managers shouldn't be held accountable for how their teams perform. Or not. If you spent $120 million on a baseball team and they don't win 80 games, you can and should be held accountable. I don't care if all the players hit 50 OPS points below their average or give up a run more than their career averages. The GM must be held responsible for that. Fire the manager too if you have to. That I will agree to. But to hold Hendry accountable for the players ON THE FIELD, and their play is totally unreasonable. This is ridiculous. How, on any planet, is that at all (much less "totally") unreasonable?
  16. Post AS break 2007 he hit one every 16.13 AB's. That would come out to 37 HR in 600 AB's (34 in 550 AB's). That seems about right and about the best we could have expected, even if he hadn't injured his wrist (despite his monster 2005). We'll see if he continues at the pace he was at after the break. There is reason to believe he will. These numbers cast some doubt: .125/.167/.267 And I've got a feeling those right there comprise a good portion of what Lou is talking about. Lee needs to start showing he's prepared to start the season, and so far he hasn't. At all. While those numbers mean absolutely nothing to me, I wasn't really arguing or commenting on anything with regard to his ST performance this year.
  17. I'm sorry if Hendry is held accountable for the players on the field, then I just don't get it. He's not the MANAGER. 18. Let me say it again, as obviosuly the point was missed. Hendry has no control over how the players are used on the field. That job belongs to the manager (Piniella in this case). What Hendry has done is put together a very solid team, that has the potential to be a really good team. Now it is the job of Pineilla (NOT Hendry) to get the team to play well. If the players don't play to their potentials, or the manager doesn't get the players t play to their potential, makes the GM look bad, but in this case, it is unwarranted. Calling Hendry a "bad Gm" or "Hendry sucks" is simply not true. I know he has made some questionable moves, but he also made some good moves. The point wasn't missed. The point is just wrong. Hendry is ultimately accountable for the product on the field and the performance of said product. Hendry hired the managers. Hendry put the players on the field.

  20. I guess there's no point in me commenting on the Lee never getting his power stroke back thing since like 5 other people have, but I was gonna.

  22. Not by any stretch of the imagination since 2005.
  23. Felix is definitely wearing cups. Don't you see him readjust it during every freaking AB?
