  1. We are so much better than the rest of the NL, it isn't even funny.
  2. For my 9,000th post... Has anyone here read "Veeck as in Wreck?" I might have to pick that up at the library. Looking for a good baseball read.
  3. I'm just posting because the next one after this will be 9000.
  4. Of course he did. That's what the whole organization and their fan base is all about. Hell, they flew an L flag in their front office after they won a game against us at the Cell. Hillbilly's. It's amazing to me, since I don't live in Chicago, the stark differences in Cubs and White Sox fans. I just don't get it. Inferiority complex
  5. FWIW, the guy who has been reporting on training camp and posting up daily highlight videos (Roy) has been saying that it's been fairly even but that Rex has been better. He has reported that Orton has thrown more interceptions, fumbled more snaps, and made more poor throws. Rex has made the occasional mistake and has fumbled a few snaps, but has looked better and made more plays. The highlight videos seem to support this, but, then again, they're just highlight. He has been pretty good about showing both the good and bad plays by each guy, though.
  6. Seriously??? The only way I can see this ever happening is if you're 10+ beers deep and just left one of his random good games. That's how I wound up with a CPatt shirt a few years ago...
  7. The "music" on CSN is terrible, BTW. Can't they come up with something better than that?
  8. I love that the only difference the channel the Cubs are on that day makes to me is that I punch in a different number and get some different graphics/sounds.
  9. Holy crap that's ironic
  10. It's all relative. Last year's situation truly was disaster. This one was more on a smaller scale...like... "Um, we have this crazy blister that nobody's ever seen and it just won't heal. Damndest thing we've ever seen. Nothing we try helps. He's not close." ...two days later "He'll be back in a couple days."
  11. Also, has anyone noticed that Harden has never even averaged a K per inning until this season (outside of 06 and 07 where he barely pitched - and even then, he wasn't K'ing near the same rate as now - so it's hard to really draw anything from the numbers)? How did he get so much better at striking people out? Is it the "new" more limited repertoire? He has always thrown really hard. Maybe the fact that he's just fastball/changeup with a lot of changing speeds is leading to more K's than ever, and the dumping of the splitter = fewer ground balls? Just thinking out-loud...
  12. I don't think so. The Cubs can beat those pitchers at home. I think they can beat them, period. But I'd still rather not face them (well, Webb and Haren)...
  13. He's not talking about the last 5 years, though. He's talking about all those years through the 80s and (particularly, as salaries got higher) 90s where the team was being outspent by smaller market teams and generally not making an effort to put a decent product on the field. The years where we'd pick up Dave Magadan or Leo Gomez to plug the 3B hole. Or when Kevin Tapani and Terry Mulholland were big signings to round out the rotation. I'm not saying he's right, as I'm really too young to even remember many details about that era and I'm not gonna bother researching it. Just pointing out that he wasn't really talking about their recent free spending ways.
  14. http://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com/2008/08/sports-center-fights-are-always-fun.html Him continuing to challenge Phillips like that was amazingly hilarious. Not that I agree that Joba should be in the CYA talk this year, but I love that someone on ESPN actually made an argument based on numbers that somewhat matter and not crap like, "He wins ballgames."
  15. I think he needs to have one more pitch to be in that category. At least he has to use one more pitch. He's absolutely dominant with his fastball and his 3 (?!) different changeups. In fact, he's better than he ever has been in his career.
  16. There is no doubt in my mind.
  17. Crap I'm thinking of the NBA... Well, Hell, they do need to change that, anyway.
  18. Wood keeps having these miracle recoveries on the brink of disaster.
  19. Again, I could be wrong. I know they changed something about the playoffs a couple of offseasons ago but I can't figure out what the hell it was.
  20. I don't believe that's accurate any longer, but I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure that was what they changed in regard to the Wild Card a year or two ago.
  21. Bush didnt walk in a run Sorry, I thought Encarnacions RBI was a walk. At least I was right about the Patterson sucking part. Seriously, he sucks. He does suck, but according to GameDay, he *just* missed a grand slam there.
