  1. How the hell do world records get broken so much in these things? Adrenaline?
  2. and another gold
  3. I think he's completely unaware that the Reds got Hamilton two years ago in the Rule 5 (c/o the Cubs, of course) and began his comeback with Cincy. There is not a chance in hell that he was unprotected for the 07 Rule 5 draft, and he was just a wash out failed prospect who hadn't played more than like 10 games in god knows how long when the Reds "took" him.
  4. Ummmmm, this is wrong on numerous levels.
  5. Stinks... http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080811&content_id=3291909&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  6. Not when you look at the flags.... The scoreboard isn't much better...
  7. The Cubs are better than the Diamondbacks. The loss to the Diamondbacks last year in the playoffs was a fluke. Flukish things do tend to happen in the playoffs, sweep or not. That said, I'd obviously rather not face Webb and Haren in a playoff series, if given the choice, but with Z and Harden to counter them, I'm not exactly shaking in my boots (er, my adidas... I don't really wear boots).
  8. What are game three tickets going for? http://www.stubhub.com/chicago-cubs-playoff-tickets/
  9. You can bet that'll go up if/when it becomes a reality. The hype will be unbelievable. This isn't some World Series game in St. Louis. Nobody is getting in for face outside of season ticket holders and the lucky ones who get through on the VWR... I honestly don't know what I'd do if I got tickets... for what you could sell one seat for, I could get a really nice TV and watch games for years... and I could get a decent feel of the whole atmosphere of it by hanging out at one of the bars outside the park... But I'd probably just wind up going to the game, like I did last year, when I could've sold my seats for a few hundred....
  10. I would think you'd be pretty low on the totem pole for those tickets if that's your only relation to them, no? Plenty of Trib employees, closer relatives/friends, crap like that in your way. Seems like a Cubs World Series game isn't something many people are going to pass on... If not and it really is that much of a lock, you'd better do everything possible to keep them together for the next two months.
  11. No runs in the 2nd half / since the Giants meltdown. ERA all the way back down to a more Marmol like 2.95 Part of that was they made a scoring change in that Giants game, putting in an error which led to some of the earned runs Marmol gave up becoming unearned. You probably did do a better job of explaining it than me, though...
  12. And that's a scientifically derived fact.
  13. I think the seasons from Dempster and Edmonds are way more improbable than the seasons guys like Ludwick and Lohse are having. I'd say they are about equally improbable.
  14. Nothing wrong with daydreaming a little about it on an off day.
  15. I wonder how much it'll take just to get IN the park for a potential clinching WS game. Let's say the Cubs are up 3-1... does $600 get you an SRO ticket to game 5? $1000?
  16. Apparently, average WHIP in the AL is lower (barely) this year than in the NL... 1.37 in AL 1.39 in NL Whatever... You're right, his peripherals don't look great. He is keeping other teams from scoring runs at an exceptional clip, but it doesn't seem necessarily sustainable.
  17. 153 ERA+ in the AL East What's an average WHIP in the AL?
  18. I'd gladly take a 27 year old pitcher putting up the numbers Dice-K is putting up in the AL East. That said, it's true that he's not as good as the hype would've made one believe, but that's because the hype was ridiculous.
  19. I didn't say he wouldn't raise it. The point is we are already an extremely high payroll team and are guaranteed to be higher next year. It's not like he's taking over the Pirates. It's a little hard for this team's payroll to skyrocket.
  20. The payroll doesn't exactly have much room to go up. I don't see how it could "skyrocket." I'm guessing we'd see a bump of some sort, though, at least if he attempts to make a splash initially.
  21. Our offense is a lot better than theirs. Their bullpen is a nightmare.
  22. They just mentioned on the NBC local news that Cuban is trying to pick up someone local for his ownership group to get past the "local ties" concerns.
  23. No runs in the 2nd half / since the Giants meltdown. ERA all the way back down to a more Marmol like 2.95 It doesn't hurt that he got bailed out of a bunch of the runs he gave up in the Harden (debut) game...
