  1. At the current pace, they'd finish 32 games over .500. Then again, they'll probably lose a few more games than they otherwise would if they clinch at all early.
  2. I'm not sure, but I don't think the agreement the Trib would have signed back then would have any bearing on Zell or the sale of the team today. That is, of course, assuming that RedIvy was talking about a similar agreement from when the team was sold to Tribune.
  3. I was in first grade when you were born. That's bad enough.
  4. I was thinking maybe she meant when they bought the team...
  5. Hey, you just un-pessimistically assumed the Cubs were making the playoffs!! hahahahhahahaha i caught you
  6. And yet, it in no way can be deemed worse than what we were subjected to last year. As sad as it is, the 2003 playoff broadcasts were 1000x better than last year's.
  7. Or is it TBS's crapfest again? None of the announcers are good, but nobody (not even McCarver) is worse than Stockton. I hate making stupid threads, but yea...
  8. Hah, that was my first year watching the team. I actually liked that rotation for some reason. I was a fan of Kevin Foster and Castillo. Navarro was solid with us, too. I don't remember much about Bullinger other than he had huge ears.
  9. Why is that a joke?
  10. 2003 with Cruz instead of Estes
  11. What about the Rammy epic bat flip? My favorite of the year. Reed's was cool too.
  12. But are the requirements for being approved as a bidder a bit more lax than for being approved as an owner?
  13. Are you hearing that from your guy?
  14. You have to consider that a big part of that is likely because the team is up for sale, though.
  15. Easily. This team (at the beginning of August) already has a better run differential than that team had over a full season. Although I guess it depends to what level you take the "healthy" qualification and how you account for Nomar, given that he was only there for August and Sept. Even then, this is a better offensive ballclub by a decent margin. OBP is king.
  16. Wah, wah wah, I'm a Cubs fan, it's what I come to expect, it just makes it easier on me, wah wah wah. It's absurd. You wanna freak out when Marmol puts the tying run in scoring position during a game, fine, that's somewhat reasonable. You people are freaking out because we're not up by 20 games. Oh you've been there before, you've seen what this team can do. No you haven't. I don't care if you're old as dirt and saw the 1969 team blow it. I don't care if you still wanna ESPNize your experiences with the '03 and '04 teams. None of those teams were as good as this team. Oh you've heard it all before, you know better, cripes then quit watching, you're obviously getting no enjoyment out of this at all. I heart this post.
  17. I'm starting to believe more too. I hope it happens...
  18. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-080802-mark-cuban-chicago-cubs,1,6430716.story
  19. That's about what's to be expected...mixed results
  20. Nah, but I remembered him going into that season as the designated "#4." As if all these designations didn't mean anything as it was, it turns out that Z started out that season as the 5th starter behind Estes. Gotta love Dusty.
  21. How about just being a realist? *shrug*
  22. Seriously, I don't understand how some of you guys can enjoy a season like this with some constant irrational expectation of an imminent collapse. If you can't enjoy this season, why even bother watching baseball?
  23. Yeah but think of how many we would be ahead if we had only not come out cold after the AS break. or if the braves werent completely worthless right now. we better have a decent lead by mid september, cuz the last 2 weeks has collapse written all over it. ugh
  24. Easily. He never had me sold as a number 2 starter, but as a number 4 starter, I cant think of a better one since Steve Avery in the Braves glory days. At least I think Avery was the number 4. Maybe it was Smoltz, in which case he was a damn good #4 too. Clement/Z beg to differ...
