  1. I'm no Mort fan, and these early summer practices don't really tell you much, but this is what I'm expecting out of the receivers. I've had my differences with Angelo's decisions, but he's absolutely right when he talks about it starting with the QB. Everybody loves Brandon Marshall, but he was a 4th rounder. You think Brandon Marshall would be Brandon Marshall if he was drafted in the 4th round by the Bears in 2006? I sure don't. Do you think Eddie Royal comes close to the rookie season he had if he's playing for the Bears last year? A QB absolutely can make a WR. I agree, and far more often than a WR can make a QB. I can only think of one obvious example of that... Moss and Culpepper.
  2. Citing a trusted source, ESPN's Chris Mortensen says it's "amazing" how much better the Bears' receivers have looked with Jay Cutler at QB so far. It's only spring and Devin Hester, Greg Olsen, and Earl Bennett haven't taken a single hit, but the news is encouraging. Chicago's receiver corps will have a far easier time getting the ball from Cutler and his career 62.5% completion rate than they did from Kyle Orton (55.3%) or Rex Grossman (54.2%). 3. Graham was good, but he played corner.
  4. That's actually an .887 OPS . . . http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/blausje01.shtml?redir BBR probably rounded either the SLG or the OBP up a little  It's funny that it worked out that way considering the way I phrased it, though.
  5. not a free agent signing. jeff blauser and steve beuchele are definitely on my list. Jeff Blauser is the epitome of why you don't take the "but he hits well here!" argument as your number one reason for signing a guy. People love to say this, but I'm pretty sure we didn't sign him because of his success against us. Blauser was coming off a career year when we signed him. .308/.405/.482 (.886 OPS for those that don't want to add) If you want to say it's the epitome of why you shouldn't sign a guy coming off a year far better than the rest of his years, that would be much more fair. He was also pretty solid in terms of IsoD throughout his career. The years he managed to hit well for average, he had some really nice OBP's.
  6. It's either Mel Rojas or Todd Hundley.
  7. If that's not the most messed up quote I've ever seen
  8. As for Bullocks, LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7bCO5-69mU There might be some NWS language
  9. Bullocks is terrible. I have no idea who Glenn Earl is, and I don't really know if he's better, either. I know he played a few years with Houston and suffered a pretty bad injury (Linsfranc). Same one Mike Brown had at one point (lol what injury hasn't he had, amirite). Right now I figure it's Steltz and Payne penciled in with the ones... and the Graham experiment at FS... It all comes down to how our line does, though. If the front 7 does their job, our secondary will be fine.
  10. If I had to guess, I'd say he's a month away from a rehab assignment. But, even if he does come back, the fact that he will likely need surgery after the season suggests to me that he's going to be well below 100% the rest of the way. I just don't see him having the same offensive impact when he returns. I agree. I've been doubtful about whether or not he'd ever be the same from the start, but he'll probably (hopefully - otherwise we're screwed regardless) be a significant upgrade over Andres Blanco/Bobby Scales, and an upgrade in the field over Fontenot.
  11. And I just replied to a post from like a week ago. Oh, well. I'm one of "those" guys now.
  12. LA County: 10M Orange County: 3M San Bernardino County: 2M Riverside County: 2M Ventura County: .8M that's around 18M in the LA Metro area NY Metro has around 18.7M Maybe everything is a small market compared to NY. But having lived in NY, Chicago and California, Chicago is the biggest sports town. The Cubs have a huge fan base, arguably the most popular franchise in the city. It's true that the Cubs have been mismanaged in the past and that led to bad teams. But the fact is that the Tribune has been bad for the team. As Cub fans, we have all been putting money in the pockets of the Tribune for years. It's really telling how the sale has been hung up by this. In the past 2-3 years, the Cubs have actually started spending money. And even that's with the bad TV and radio deals. The Yankees own their own media outlet and have money to burn. The Cubs have been owned by one. Enough said. The Tribune has been essentially money laundering for all these years. If we had decent owners in the past 20 years, we might have a WS by now. Personally, I definitely feel ripped off. That's not arguable at all. It's the Bears, and it's not even close.
  13. Anyway, if that month or so is accurate (and it does go along with Lou's "first week of July" thing), it would mean he's not that far off from a rehab assignment. Maybe 3 weeks? One week in the minors? Unless the timetable means he's a month away from actually playing baseball and further away from actually returning to the team, but I think that's the less likely interpretation.
  14. This is what you conclude from the most encouraging piece of news we've gotten since the injury? I mean, granted, yes, we might need a stop gap, but this piece of information from Bruce wouldn't exactly be what motivated me to think so.
  15. Who did you guys think the safeties were? Maybe I got something wrong. Otherwise, it's been pretty well known that it's a position of weakness.

  17. More Knox praise... http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/2091
  18. He believes the Bears are DEFINITELY interested in Plaxico. They've had internal discussions and all that. The only hope if Burress goes to trial is that the trial gets pushed until after the season. Plax has a high powered lawyer who had defended P. Diddy, and the lawyer worked the plea deal that was mentioned earlier (2 months, 1 month probation after) and Plaxico turned it down because he doesn't want to go to jail at all.
  19. I'd be shocked if it was anything more than Zach's opinion. Pretty much.
  20. Zaidman - Cutler looks great Team speed that has been missing the last couple of years is back Bennett looks fluid, catching everything in sight Johnny Knox is standing out the most among rookies (Note - Yesterday, Turner made a point of saying that he's been working with Cutler on timing, after saying that Cutler was working predominantly with the 1's on offense) Zaidman was the one who ran into Plax and found out that Cutler had been making overtures to him... Plax told him to tell the people in Chicago that he loves Giordanos and Garrett Popcorn... Bears would like to have him. Obviously, a lot of obstacles along the way. If Corey Graham "gets" the position of free safety, Steltz could wind up moving to strong.
  21. Holmes and Hampton will have Zach Zaidman (WSCR Bears beat guy) to talk about the Plaxico possibility after the 11 o'clock update.
  22. He has a court date on the 15th. I'm sure we'll more after that.
  23. If he winds up pleading not-guilty, he is so screwed.
  24. I doubt Plax will face jail time. I think it's more likely he'll plead out and get probation (he did have a unlicenced gun, but he only hurt himself). The biggest obstacle will be from Roger Goodell and a potential suspension. I believe the law he broke carries a mandatory minimum sentence of one year. They offered him a plea deal of 2 months and a ton of community service and he turned it down. It would've left him ready to make some team's camp. I think it was a dumb move, but we'll see.
  25. First we have to hope he doesn't wind up behind bars for very long.
