  1. Jenkins should be running all day on Pierre's arm. Good thing he didn't.
  2. meh..they are still the cardinals I hate this type of argument/comment. Probably because I'm a Cubs fan.
  3. Ya. Who was this guy? :?
  4. Who was it that called a HR for Ronny today? :D :D :D
  5. Yep.. then if they pull out a win in Game 5, the pressure is on Miami... they'll have to win it here. I was at the game. It was AWESOME. We were also the first people in the stadium to see Jordan... He was about 50 feet from us, we saw his son sitting in the suite in the pre-game warmups.
  6. that doesn't even make sense. so the 6th hitter in the lineup is going to 'feed off' the 'excitement' pierre brought to the game two innings prior when he grounded out to second? how exactly does this feeding process work? Guys who play for the Cubs seem to disagree with you. Do you think Podsednik brought anything to the Sox last year? No. The Sox offense was worse in 05 than 04. That was a bad trade. Now, the starting rotation sure brought a lot to the Sox last year.
  7. Over 162 games that's an awful lot more. Cubs leadoff spot, 2005: .299 OBP Juan Pierre, 2006: .284 OBP Nice.
  8. I hope when Wood comes back in a couple weeks, he takes Rusch's spot. Marshall and Guzman should then get to battle it out for the spot that will remain once Prior comes back.
  9. Ignorance of baseball + poor logic + sweeping accusations = one really bad post. That's it. I see now. It is COMPLETELY unreasonable to insert Neifi into the 8th hole of the batting order in favor of the likes of Jerry Hairston when Neifi has shown the ability to hit the starting pitcher in the past. You're right There's simplly no way to justify that decision. Heck, it doesn't even matter one bit that Neifi ended up with a double off of that pitcher. Carry on with your regularly scheduled Neifi/Dusty hate.... I hope the added personal touch of your post helps you feel a little better. I certainly don't think 3 AB's against a particular pitcher is enough to constitute having "shown the ability to hit" him. I'll look at his hundreds of career AB's instead.
  10. An apt comparison. Except that with AGon you can swallow the offensive suck-i-tude a little easier than at a corner OF spot.
  11. Although I would bet that a clutch pitcher is not one who pitches better than usual in pressure situations, but one who merely pitches at his usual level in those situations, not allowing the pressure to get to him. We've all seen a pitcher fall apart when things start getting a little ugly for him: losing control, making bad pitches, all that jazz (Zambrano comes to mind, although I think that's as often due to fatigue as anything else). The "clutch" pitcher, if there is such a thing, is probably (in my mind) one who doesn't let this happen. I agree. This is exactly how I think of any notion of "clutch" pitching.
  12. I believe he referred to it as "getting gals." Classic.
  13. Until they're gone, any success we have will be a fluke. Luck.
  14. I thought he sleep-walked into a glass table...
  15. Didn't Clement get nailed in the head with a line drive last year for the Red Sox? Did he not miss any time because of it?
  16. Kind of ironic with that avatar of yours and all...
  17. This is interesting. I know some people from Dallas and they absolutely love Cuban. I guess they haven't battled back and forth with him, though. My feelings have nothing to do with our e-mails. He does create a lot of excitement, but he doesn't get results. The Cubs don't need hype, they need production. Again.. How is it hype and not production? Is your only measure of success a championship or something? Why the hell do you play the games? They don't give out rings for regular season wins, do they? That's a valid point... but I just don't see how a great season is invalidated by 4 bad games... But that's just me. Expecting a championship is asking an awful lot, IMHO. If it happens for your team, great...But only one out of 30-some-odd teams does that each year.

  19. Those Mavericks sure have been a wreck since he took over, haven't they? What the hell have they won? They've made it to the Western Conference Finals ONCE, and then only because Sacramento had some serious injury problems. For all the wins they've racked up, they haven't even sniffed a title yet and won't anytime soon. Great call letting Steve Nash walk away for nothing, huh? I consider the playoffs in any sport to be a crapshoot. Sure, the Mavs could have a better playoff record, but I'd give up an eye to have the Cubs among the best teams in baseball every year. A team that wins 70% of its games is hardly unsuccessful.

  21. What's wrong with Cuban, and is it so bad that his bank account can't compensate for it? He fancies himself a GM, which he is not. If he were to stay 100% out of all personnel decisions, then I would be OK with it. And despite what his public image is, he doesn't really care about the average fan. I've had a few e-mail "battles" back and forth with him on the issue. At the same time, that makes it seem like he cares plenty about the average fan, if he would care enough to engage in email "battles" with fans. I'd want him in on the personel decisions. If he doesn't mind spending it, I would have no problem with him overpaying for an All Star at every position. Say what you will about George Steinbrenner, but I'd take him over our ownership any day.
  22. What the heck? I don't buy that part of the report. Be it Sullivan or Levine, neither one is the epitome of credibility, by any stretch.
