  1. Villanueva just hit a double because of course he did.
  2. In 2013, Juan Francisco has been worth 0.0 bWAR and -0.3 fWAR.
  3. I fully agree. I'm not trying to poop on everyone's parade but I'm not seeing the difference between the admittedly regressing Kennedy and the potential and upwardly trending Samardzija as being worth two top pitching prospects. If the rumors are true, I guess we will find out by the end of the day. I honestly hope I'm wrong. But you think Kennedy is better. I didn't realize that his 2013 was so different than his 2012/2011 seasons. I'll fully admit that I hope I'm wrong but I highly doubt that DBacks trade Kennedy and a top pitching prospect for Samardzija. Yes, Kennedy is not pitching well in 2013. Yes Samardzia is having a better year. Does that satisfy you goony? I don't know why his 2012 season is being grouped in with his 2011 season. Glancing at his last four seasons, 2011 definitely appears to be the outlier, and appears to have been driven by, as Tim said, an unusually high number of fly balls staying in the park.
  4. Parks says he prefers the return for Peavy, saying Avisail Garcia has a chance to be a stud. What do people like about him? His hit tool? There doesn't seem to be anything really exciting about his power or his patience.
  5. Who the hell is going to hit in two years? Right now their foundation players are league average at best. The prospects I see at AA and AAA look pretty high risk to me, including Baez. I hope you're right Adam but I am not sure this team will be there in 2015 and certainly won't next year. Doesn't mean I would trade Shark but I would definitely consider it. "Who the hell is going to hit" is pretty far down the list of concerns regarding this team's ability to contend in future seasons. Between Castro, Rizzo, Baez, Almora, Soler, Bryant, Alcantara, & Vogelbach, enough of these guys should develop into productive major league hitters that offense should not be the glaring weakness that you're making it out to be.
  6. It's not exactly considered giving up when you use him as one of the center pieces for a front end pitcher. Now if anyone lost in this deal, it was the Cardinals who traded Chris Perez for a few unseless months of DeRosa not too long after. As he used it, "giving up" pretty clearly means "trading away." This, and also the Cubs including Chris Archer in a trade for Matt Garza in 2011 has jack [expletive] to do with the Cardinals acquiring Mark DeRosa in 2009. No, it has nothing to do with trading Garza, but it is relevant to giving up Archer. Archer was already well thought of even back when he was sent for DeRosa, but Cleveland still ended up with a valuable long term asset out of it. St. Louis did not. This is a terrible way to evaluate trades. Archer was a Cubs prospect. If the Cubs front office wished, he could have remained a Cubs prospect. Whether or not someone thinks it was a bad idea to give him up in a trade has nothing to do with what the Cardinals gave up for Mark DeRosa.

  8. Wait, are you asking if Edwards cracks the Cubs top 50 prospects? I was referring more to 30. 50's too much for me to delve into. Yes, I feel pretty safe ranking him ahead of Trey McNutt.
  9. I agree that the Pythagorean method should be looked at to try to analyze the weaknesses of your team, but it shouldn't be used to placate fans into believing that the team is far better than what it shows on the field. Also, it's going to be hard to project next year's team based on this year's numbers because of the large turnover of players. No, it really won't. It's not like they'll be replacing this year's players with a bunch of unknowns that we have zero information about and no ability to project what we can expect them to contribute.
  10. Wait, are you asking if Edwards cracks the Cubs top 50 prospects?
  11. Bogusevic will be eligible to come off the DL in a couple days. Not sure which one would be preferred at this point. Sappelt wouldn't be eligible to come back up for 8 more days, though, right? Since there are already 5 outfielders on the roster and the bullpen has been a bit overworked lately I'm guessing they go with a pitcher.
  12. So I'm guessing 6 players involved means the Cubs are throwing in Navarro or an outfielder or something to get a better return?
  13. I saw a KC game a couple weeks ago. Maples started that game and I was there early enough to watch his (and others) entire warmup routine. I sat four rows up from the bullpen mound and Maples was working closely with the KC pitching coach on his mechanics, specifically stressing the motion and the strain it places on his shoulder. They were clearly working to iron out his mechanics, something I had never seen immediately prior to a start. He was listening closely and trying to incorporate the feedback though, to his credit. His results that day were very poor as he had horrible command and didn't last past the first inning. He had decent stuff , fb in the mid 90's, good breaking stuff, but he wasn't repeating his delivery and just couldn't find the zone. He very clearly needs to spend time with Derek Johnson. Pardon my ignorance, but that's where Derek Johnson is? Boise? I guess that makes sense given the age and experience of the players he's coached his whole career, I just wanted to confirm. Unless I'm mistaken, he works with pitchers at all levels of the minor leagues.
  14. Is he saying that Gammons accidentally Tweets from his pants pockets? Yup. http://deadspin.com/5969910/the-15-best-peter-gammons-tweets-of-2012
  15. I like it. Dunleavy should definitely be an upgrade over Belinelli. I assume this means Nazr will be back, and that will just about complete the roster, right?
  16. to who? for who? fantastic reporting, Stein I don't know is Gilbert Arenas still owed 100M?? Let's get him!! And some super valuable draft picks from the Thunder. where is this being reported, anyway? i didn't see it on twitter or espn this morning.
  17. Villanueva hit his 2nd homer in as many days.
  18. Am I wrong to feel like this is pretty underwhelming if Fuentes is the best player in the package?
