You, like Jim Hendry, greatly overrate Izturis's defense. He would look great on this team but in defense of trading him it did take the kid awhile to figure it out... something he might not have done in Chicago. Exactly-just at the end of 2005 his prospect status seemed to be gone. He was 25, and had just put up a 746 OPS in Triple A. It wasn't until halfway through 2006 when he was traded to the Reds that he even started to figure it out again in Triple A. Plus, it's not like he was traded for somebody terrible-even looking back, I'd probably rather have Murton overall (Harris right now, but I think Murton has a better chance to have long-term production), and that's with knowing that Nomar would be hurt most of his time with the team, which we certainly didn't know at the time of the trade. I'm not saying that i didn't like, or wouldn't have jumped all over, that trade. I'm just saying that i liked him when he was with the cubs, was sad to see him go, and am even more sad now that his OPS is 266 points higher than our everyday SS.
