  1. Why? Maybe Lou will actually only pitch him every other day for a while. Because they don't need him to pitch this inning, they might need him tomorrow when it's closer and they don't want Howry or Cotts pitching in a crucial situation.
  2. Z wasn't trouble at all after the second inning, and threw his last inning entirely from the windup. His outing isn't that big a deal. On the other hand, Samardzija pitching this inning is stupid.
  3. I missed it, is Samardzija really warming up in the pen? Please tell me Eyre is going to pitch the 9th.
  4. Nothing to show for it, but everyone except Soriano and Ramirez has tagged the ball so far.
  5. Why does it sound like someone is playing Simon in the background of the WGN feed?
  6. That was a decent throw, Theriot stole that on Sheets relatively easily.
  7. This is getting stupid, send him to Tennessee where there aren't hurricanes if you're paranoid about him pitching in Iowa already. Of course, the floods would probably come back to Iowa if they sent him there.
  8. can you explain this one a bit? I don't know much about Hu other than what a quick look at br will show you. Looks like through 40+ ABs this year, he had about the same performance in the same league at the same age as Ronny did last year. But at 22, Ronny did the same thing in the same league, whereas, at 22, Hu was OPS'ing .660 in the Southern League. That .660 is a bit deceiving, as it marks the worst season of Hu's minor league career. Both before and after he showed an ability to produce at a decent clip for a shortstop, as well as hit for a high average. As for the why, it's a matter of practicality, as Cedeno isn't going to get you Kemp or Kershaw obviously. Hu provides more consistent defense than Cedeno at a younger age, with a better minor league pedigree(Hu has been a well regarded prospect for more of his career than Cedeno, and better low level MiLB performance), and his skillset is more likely to transfer to the major leagues(he makes a crapload more contact, important considering neither are going to be sluggers). Plus, Colletti obviously doesn't trust him based on 100 ABs this year(his first real taste of MLB) so he's probably available.
  9. It's been several years and (not sure about this part) a different training staff since the last time that happened.
  10. In the 6th inning? Cub fans have done it before. Remember when Soriano was on one of his red hot streaks against Pittsburgh? Had he at least gotten a hit in that game prior to the HR?
  11. Oh if you started a TE run when I have to wait 20 picks Ima gonna be pissed.
  12. QB Derrek Anderson WR Dwayne Bowe
  13. Because the only other guys in the pen that can go multiple innings are our primary setup men at the moment.
  14. Pie is hitting .385 in about 100 July PA's. I think that's pretty good even for the PCL.
  15. Yeah, especially with Kosuke on deck and no RH pinch hitters on the bench(we weren't going to use Blanco), I thought that was a pretty bad move on his part. It's not like Ward is a threat. He hasn't done much the past month, and he's done very little against RHP this year. Riske has a huge platoon split though(.614 OPS against RH, .856 against LH). Ward hasn't killed RHP this year, but his .790 OPS isn't exactly struggling against them either.
  16. Shocking. Do you have something to contribute? Unless you're contributing to the topic at hand, we're probably better off without the sarcastic interjection that you think somebody is being irrational.
  17. The problem Lou has right now is that the back of his bullpen is getting used pretty hard, and the rest of it is left handers and Howry. With a RH dominated lineup, you can't bring in Cotts or Eyre for a full inning. Now, one of them absolutely should've pitched to Branyan, don't get me wrong, but it's an unfortunate circumstance that forced Lou to go to Howry last night. Hopefully Zambrano and Dempster can give us about 15 innings of good work between them to let Gaudin and Samardzija get on some normal rest, and hopefully we see more of Durham, Counsell, and Branyan to allow us to get away with Eyre, Cotts, or Marshall for a full inning if we need to.
  18. Soriano with honorable mention to Gaudin. Not only did he get through the heart of the Brewer order, he humiliated Hardy, Braun, and Hart. Big lift going into the 9th.
  19. Yeah, especially with Kosuke on deck and no RH pinch hitters on the bench(we weren't going to use Blanco), I thought that was a pretty bad move on his part.
