  1. Well Carpenter certainly looks like he's back in top form after walking 4 guys on a AA team that had half it's lineup below a .700 OPS. Or when he tired after 70 pitches against a AAA lineup that also featured half it's lineup with a sub-.700 OPS. Luckily for him, he faces an embarrassment of a MLB lineup tonight, so if he doesn't get shelled it can be a rousing success.
  2. Shirts that date themselves become useless. Get a Cubs T-Shirt without the jersey
  3. How much of a downgrade is it to go to Inge everyday though?
  4. Wonder if the Marlins want him back? They were linked to Manny too. EDIT: Well the Yankees are much less interesting.
  5. LOL, Pie and a second prospect for Ibanez. When you factor in defense, Pie's probably better than him alone, never mind age, contract, player cost, all that jazz.
  6. Sorry man, he was a keeper of mine
  7. Also worth noting, Dempster is in the top 5 in ERA+ and is just outside the top 5 in Wins and WHIP.
  8. The Cardinals pythagorean is 9 games worse than the Cubs. The Cubs split against the Cards came entirely at Busch stadium. The Cards have played at an 85 win pace since May 1st, the Cubs have played at a 93 win pace since May 1st. The Cubs have scored 42 more runs and given up 48 fewer runs than the Cardinals, despite a marginally tougher schedule.
  9. Z, Lincecum, Haren, Volquez
  10. Yep, although Jimmy Jackson is a senior as his backup, so Washington probably won't get the lion's share of the carries like Temple did.
  11. He hasn't gone 8 in a game this year, but he's gone 7 in 4 of his last 9 starts. He's bound by his pitch count, which can get up there since he has a near 4.5 BB/9. We work the count, and Parra won't go past the 6th, even if we aren't able to score much on him.
  12. Batting average matters, but it's probably not in the top 5 things I'd look at when evaluating and examining a player.
  13. Parra gives up too many baserunners to have this good an ERA. He's prone to walking people, so good at bats are in order. Same formula as Sheets, have good at bats, hit the ball hard, break it open after multiple trips through the order, except they don't have to swing so often cause Parra won't be near the plate as much.
  14. I brought up Kuo. He's been their long man it looks like, at least until a couple games though. I don't know if his role changed or it's just an aberration.
  15. The fact that they haven't really looked at long-term answers leads me to believe they haven't given up on Pie completely yet. If they got a long-term guy, they'd have to give up on Felix. You could use Pie to keep the other player cost down though.
  16. Is it bad that I get more excited that Hernandez pitching means that it's almost time for Jackson to pitch again, than for Hernandez pitching himself?
  17. If they want a LH CF or OF bet, then go for a longer term solution. Inquire about McLouth or DeJesus.
  18. Ibanez doesn't make much sense. If you get him to be a starter, you have to put him in LF, becuase he might be the worst defensive outfielder in the game. So you're weakening your defense to tread water from where you were(emphasis on were) with the Edmonds/Johnson platoon. If you get him for the bench, that doesn't make much sense. His cost in players won't be appropriate, you're still worried about Edmonds' health, and he'd only be a real benefit for the month of August, after which we'll have all the left handed bench bats we want between Hoffpauir, Pie, maybe Fuld, etc. Say no to Ibanez.
  19. A strange trade, but what about Cedeno and Eyre for Hu and Kuo? The Cubs get the better player on both ends, who are also younger and perform the same role, but Colletti's the one who wants Cedeno and Eyre in the first place, so he must not think much of those two.
  20. Realistically though, what the heck do we ask for in return? I'd think it would be major league players over prospects. For Cedeno and Eyre? Hu and a prospect would work, the Dodgers have plenty of good ones.
  21. The thought of us making a deal with Colletti gives me the warm fuzzies inside.
  22. The thing is, it's been a week now. If he knows something or not, he needs to be used, or he needs to be put on the DL or otherwise replaced.
  23. McDaniel is just ridiculous. Pie stayed hot, although I guess going 2 for 6 lowers his AVG for the month. Cerda walks again, 12/10 BB/K in 76 AB.
  24. HUH? He gave a ratonal response to Soul's question. How is that "callng him out" or "selective moderating"? Do tell. I was referring to his post to me, not the post I quoted. All I said was "shocking". It wasn't a personal attack and I got called out on sarcasm, when NSBB favorites get to be sarcastic all the time. Sorry, it just irritated me. I made the comment because it was the second consecutive thread I clicked on where you did nothing but but rail on a poster for supposedly being irrational without contributing at all. If your response is "what about this guy?", then you probably know that my comment wasn't off base. As for "selective moderating", the mods do what they can, but it's difficult to moderate every post. If you think someone is out of line, report the post. And also understand that not all modding is done in a public avenue. Not all warnings, suspensions, bannings, etc. are made public.
  25. Why? Maybe Lou will actually only pitch him every other day for a while. Because they don't need him to pitch this inning, they might need him tomorrow when it's closer and they don't want Howry or Cotts pitching in a crucial situation. he can pitch back to back days... just because he hasn't done it doesn't mean he can't. Yeah, I'd just rather that back to back be in situations that matter, like potentially tomorrow and Thursday. Especially when Eyre hasn't pitched since the Cold War and we're up 7.
