Jeff Kent spent only 6 of his 17 seasons in San Francisco. He had 7 seasons of at least a 110 OPS+, including a 5 year span of 119, 122, 133, 119, and 121, outside of San Francisco. -
2009 breakout prospects

I'm a big fan of David Cales. He may stay in the pen this year, but I think he's going to continue to do really well for himself. Also on the 2008 Draft front, I think Matt Cerda will take a step forward with the bat. He already appears to have an advanced eye at the plate(25/21 K/BB), so hopefully he can get comfortable behind the plate and get consistent playing time at Boise. I'm hoping for a little more power from Nate Samson too, but even if not he looks like a stronger defender in the Theriot mold at the plate. -

Weren't there some strange quotes about him wanting to leave the game or something and having his brother and/or dad talk him into staying? And wasn't there also a weight/health question about him? Or am I making this all up? He's the Hawaiian with the necklace right? The leaving the game part seems familiar, but I'm not sure. Jerome Williams had about 375 IP of ~110 ERA+ pitching before the age of 24. It'd be one thing if he wore out at 150 IP and got hurt or started sucking, but he fell off the face of the earth(< 45 IP after age 24).

Thanks for that info on Kemp and Maestri, it's much appreciated. Wanted to update this since I was out of town for a week then busy to start the next one. I've made a good bit of progress, including having collegiate statistics included for the entire system now. Working to get the scouting info up for the remaining 2.5 affiliates in the next week or so. I've read on a couple occasions that Vitters has been too trusting of his outstanding contact ability, swinging at pitches that aren't his pitch because he can put okay wood on them. To me, an increase in driving the ball(extra base hits, LD%) would mark just as important an adjustment as an increase in walks. Ideally they both would improve(and a side benefit of driving the ball more should be at least a little improvement in K/BB), but I'd be happy if he made strides with either. -
This thread was chosen because he saw you post in it and it's where you said your PMs didn't work. More than one mod noticed that there was an excess of pointless arguing(accomplishing nothing, cluttering up several threads, and toeing the line of personal attacks from both parties) that spans several pages in multiple threads, and you were a common denominator in most of them. Though it applies to anyone, if you find yourself 8-10 posts deep in an argument/discussion, it's a good idea to step back and see if you're actually still discussing the topic at hand and not just bickering tangent after tangent that doesn't do any good.

Are you saying those two are similar? Isn't there a significant difference in evaluating those lines in relation to the strikeouts? All else being equal (which is the case here at least in the stats listed) I thought making contact was better than not. I'm saying both are really awful, and banishing the younger, great fielding one while letting the older, crummy fielding one get the extended look is a poor decision.

Expected 2009 Fontenot/Miles = Expected 2009 DeRosa Expected 2009 Gregg > Expected 2009 Ascanio/Guzman/Stevens/Olson/whoever would've gotten that extra spot I might've kept DeRosa and foregone Miles and Gregg for Cedeno and someone from the above(especially with Bradley in RF), but the other side to that is then you have a bullpen of Marmol, Cotts, and a bunch of guys who have little to no experience in the pen(well, there's Gaudin and Vizcaino, but they won't be used in setup positions). Not that Gregg is guaranteed stability, but there's something to be said for throwing his name in there amongst the unknowns(especially if Samardzija doesn't start the year in the big league pen), he helps hedge against a 2006 rotation type situation.

I think those saying he was going to get 5 or 6 mil weren't well founded. He didn't have a fantastic year, so it was pretty unlikely he was going to double or more than double last year's salary.

He seems to literally be the pitching version of Pie. Strong minor league numbers who has completely fallen apart in his MLB time.

Williamson was old for the New York Penn League last year, but he mowed down hitters there (34/5 K/BB in 22.2 IP). He also did well in a couple Sally League appearances at the end of the year(8/0 K/BB in 6.1 IP). Anyone with more info? He's a big guy at 6-5, but I wonder if he had an injury that kept his innings down in 2007 and 2008.

Nice to see Mizzou wipe the floor with the doormats of the Big 12 after a disappointing loss in Lincoln. 31 point win over Iowa State today. Big trip to Stillwater this week as both Mizzou and OSU could be bubble teams.
