  1. Let's wait and find out how much we're actually paying him before getting too upset about that. True. But, haven't we been hearing 3/30m? I've heard that number, but it's been far from widespread.

  3. During one of Hendry's most recent interviews he stated Marshall as one of the bullpen arms. Someone's got to be the 5th starter. If it's not Marshall, then one of Samardzija, Gaudin, Hart, Wells, etc. will be the guy unless another starter is that next move.
  4. Marshall will be in the rotation, and most of those bullpen guys have options and aren't people to "make room" for in the pen anyway.
  5. Pitt @ Georgetown on ESPN right now, it's a really entertaining game so far.
  6. You apply this relativity nonsense whenever it's convenient. Utah pantsed Bama last night. Utah's SOS would probably be top 50 after this game. Not the top 20 of Texas/Florida/OU, but they didn't lose either. If anyone wants to say the loss isn't made up for in the difference in schedules and Utah deserves a #1 vote, I don't think that's unreasonable. If you want to say the opposite, that the rougher gauntlet makes up for the loss(especially in OU's case, losing to a Top 5 team), then I don't think that's outrageous either.
  7. Mostly because Scott has been protected from left handed pitching. He's faced around a 4:1 ratio of RHP to LHP in his career, Bradley is a little less than 2.5:1.
  8. Bradley as long as I get to use Pie if he gets hurt.
  9. To help with finding what's been completed until I have everything up to date before the season begins, I put a roadmap of sorts on the main page of the wiki, I'll update it as things get completed.
  10. What in the world was he so angry about?
  11. Well said. I'd add 'getting Bradley when your backup outfielders are slated to be Gathright and Johnson because you traded away DeRosa and hate Pie' is also not fine.
  12. Let Dempster go and not signed Miles. That should cover DeRosa and Bradley. Going by 2009 expectations and not 2008 results, I'll take DeRosa+Marshall over Dempster+Miles That's not the comparison though. It's Dempster v. Marquis and Fontenot/Miles v. DeRosa/Fontenot, since Bradley and Marshall start in both scenarios. I don't think there's a substantial difference between the two, especially if there had been someone better than Miles(Barmes :( ) in that platoon spot.
  13. Which he had never done before, and he's 32 years old. The never-ending Hendry defense: this stupid thing was made necessary by previous stupid things. Of course, the Soriano overpay was necessary because the team fell apart in 05/06 because he did such a poor job. And he had to let Baker blow out Prior's arm because he hadn't put together a good bullpen. It never ends... What's the correct course of action then? How would you have built the team given the financial constraints the team is under this offseason?
  14. I can remember when Pat wasn't really terrible, so I find it hard to be amused at his mistakes too, it's like the worst possible "bad announcer" scenario.
  15. Holy dumb. He also seems to have a profound misunderstanding of why the Peavy deal hasn't been done yet.
  16. If they get Bradley, what will the bench be? Assuming fukudome/soriano/bradley OF and Fontenot at 2nd: Johnson, Miles, Bako, Gathwright and......? I have to think that last spot will be an infielder. That's a whole bunch of no production on the bench. I imagine Hoffpauir would be the favorite. And I'm going to start hoping against hope that Pie beats out Gathright. I don't see a recently signed Gathwright failing to make the team. And I would be really surprised if they went into a regular season with only Aaron Miles as a potential back up at 3 of the 4 infield positions. Yeah, it doesn't fit together at all, that's the most puzzling thing about this offseason.

  18. I understand that lineup is in jest, but one of those players won't be on the team. We won't have a 6 player bench.
  19. Fumbles are recovered at almost exactly a 50% clip.
  20. Except, that, they are. Not completely random, but random enough to treat them as completely random, from the offenses point of view. Are you talking about the rate that they're forced, or the rate that they're recovered?
  21. But Aaron Miles makes that less pathetic? DeRosa is much better at hitting RHP than Miles.
  22. Related to the playoff v. BCS, I think it's pretty likely that a team advancing to the championship game in a playoff system would be selected to the title game in the BCS, given the results of any preliminary playoff rounds.
  23. Put together the analogy. Beltre was unreal one year, then has been consistently good over his big contract. He's hoping for the same from Dempster.
  24. Beltre isn't great offensively, but those raw OPS numbers are suppressed by Safeco. He's also an elite defender, making him a valuable commodity, even compared to other 3B. That doesn't mean he was worth his contract, but that wasn't the point cro magnon was making(I don't think so anyway).
