  1. You didn't go? That was a lot of fun, big crowd too. I like to think that Mizzou won as karma for Scott Drew wearing black tennis shoes so you couldn't tell he was wearing them. Mizzou looks really good at home. Now they get to go to Austin and play a pissed off Texas team. Super.
  2. Pomeroy has them 13. They're 9-2 against the Top 100(Pomeroy) and their SOS isn't particularly weak either.
  3. If these announcers in the ISU-OU game say the phrase "Hilton magic" one more time, I'm going to break this TV.
  4. Comparing their projections for this year, less than 3 runs. From '08 Blanco to projected '09 Bako, it's about 6 runs. In that instance it's hard to complain about it, but at the same time I wish they had gotten someone who either had the potential to be really productive(even flukishly) over those at bats(like Valentin, or even Toby Hall), or someone younger with a strong defensive reputation(Hall again?). Or they could've just let Hill do it. wait toby hall has a good defensive reputation? I don't know, he sure came out looking good in that link I posted earlier.
  5. I'm pretty sure that's what it is. I found a link to a yahoo article talking about what WHIFF was, but the link was dead.

  7. Bako's last 5 years, OPS: 2004: .571 2005: .662 2006: .490 2007: .533 2008: .627 Career: .622 On the defensive side, here is an article trying to put some type of quantification on a catcher's arm. Bako came out 6 runs below average last year, and 0.6 runs above average for the last 5 years(for reference, Soto was 1.9 runs below average in 2008). Not that this should be taken as gospel or even close to it, but it's something. A look at some remaining backup catchers. Toby Hall: .671 OPS career, .635 in 2008 (24.6 Runs above average with arm, 5 years) Chad Moeller: .631 career, .641 in 2008 (-0.6 runs above average with arm, 5 years) Sal Fasano: .687 career, .688 in 2008 Doug Mirabelli: .724 career, .638 in 2008 Vance Wilson: .679 career, .745 in 2008 Javier Valentin: .712 career, .737 in 2008 (-4.7 Runs above average with arm, 5 years) There's also guys like Pudge and LoDuca available as well.
  8. This is probably the best place for this tidbit. MLB has lifted the restrictions on how many Type A free agents you can sign because of a "flooded market". http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090130&content_id=3785640&vkey=news_nyy&fext;=.jsp&c_id=nyy&partnerId=rss_nyy
  9. What? I just watched it and what could he have possibly been saying to upset the ref so much to kick a mascot out of a game? He headbutted the official.
  10. UZR and PMR suggest Dunn is a run or two better defensively in LF.
  11. Sammie the Owl gets ejected
  12. Saw this quoted today and thought it was interesting.
  13. Hill can't throw the ball in the ocean right now, using him on an irregular reliever's schedule sure isn't going to fix things, and the one thing we're not short on is 5th starter candidates with upside and question marks. If you think he's just going to humiliate himself more in Mesa, then trade him now. And remember that the further ST progresses, the less you get for Hill as the clock ticks toward the time they have to make a decision. In the end, what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't matter.
  14. FWIW, Marshall threw 148.1 IP in 2006 and 134 in 2007. Essentially, we need a combined 400 IP out of Harden, Marshall, Heilman, Samardzija, and Gaudin. I think that's pretty easily done, and as long as there isn't a combination of multiple guys getting hurt plus multiple guys falling on their face performance-wise, I think it'll be more than okay from a production standpoint.
  15. Miles stands a very good chance of being as good as 2008 Cedeno. Johnson is Johnson, although I guess he's projected to be a touch worse at the plate this year. We don't know who's replacing Ward, but he wasn't any good last year(Miles is projected to be about as valuable offensively). Bako and Gathright are pretty clear downgrades from Blanco and Fontenot. I like Ping's idea of seeing if Crede would join the bench. That'd be an improvement on Ward, although we wouldn't have much from the left side. Matt Craig would be pop from both sides, but he's not allowed start the season anywhere but Tennessee.
  16. That's it? That's the requirement? The Cub Reporter pointed out that Gordon Wittenmeyer reported it as a multi-layered set of clauses, so it may not be that simple.
  17. Yeah, Catch Me If You Can is my only experience with the line, and I had it right.
  18. I didn't see but a couple minutes of the game after it was already in hand, but from what I can gather, Mizzou didn't play well, they couldn't force K-State into turnovers like both teams have done all year, and 2 guards from K-State shot a combined 10 for 14 from 3. It seems reminiscent of how Mizzou beat Texas last year, get a lead at the half, then don't miss a shot the rest of the game.
  19. I really wish Mizzou would either stick to being good or just lose in convincing fashion every game. Unbelievable.
  20. Jon Heyman with some very interesting stuff on Bradley's contract.
  21. Blanco bats with his right hand, stupid. maybe that's why he sucks so much, i mean, how many guys only hold the bat with one hand? (1.2) We already have Koyie Hill.
  22. Yet, Cedeno is the only one I've ever seen do that. Two people made dumb plays in that situation. Molina was dumb enough to risk an overthrow on ball 4, and Cedeno overslid the base to make the gamble pay off. You never see it because the vast majority of catchers are smart enough to not throw the ball to second on ball 4.
  23. Remembering Olson has pedestrian stuff makes this a little easier to take, but it's still a poor use of resources. We're making deals to get rid of Pie, Cedeno, and soon Hill, and instead of trying to get good minor league value or getting someone who can capably fill the bench spot we apparently want, we seem to be adding arms that Hendry likes under the "you can't have too many pitchers" adage. I really hope someone from Heilman/Gaudin/Wuertz/Guzman has a breakout campaign, or our bullpen is going to be stuck in "needs help but not so bad that it'll be worth the marginal upgrade for anyone but the best, and those guys cost a fortune" limbo for this year. Apologies if that quote doesn't make any sense.
  24. Someone in a previous discussion of Heilman talked about his stuff and how it pertained to last year's performance. Anyone remember that or the source for that?
